Salt Lake jumped to an early eleven point lead but South Plains took a two point lead into halftime. South Plains came out red hot in the second half hitting eight of there first nine shots to extend the lead to as much as 16 points. Salt Lake (31-3) advances to the final four on Friday March 21st to face either Three Rivers CC or Eastern Arizona College. SLCC 74 Salt Lake CC Advances to Elite Eight at National Tournament SLCC will play again at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bruins will take on the winner of the Paris Junior College and Southeastern Illinois College in the NJCAA winners bracket. Please support the SLCC Men’s basketball team as they play for the National Championship Title. Salt Lake CC Advances to National Tournament Salt Lake led by as many as ten points in the game, with 6.4 seconds left CSI cut the lead to one point however CSI committed two turnovers in the last two possessions to secure the win for Salt Lake. The tough Salt Lake defense forced 24 CSI turnovers in the game and out rebounded CSI by four boards. Brian Green had the hot hand hitting five three pointer in the game to lead Salt Lake with 27 points. Vassy Banny finished in double figures with 11 points and Papa Samba Gussie had ten. The team shot 43% from the field and 64% (16-25) from the charity stripe. No. 4 Salt Lake (29-3) will head to the National Tournament on March 18-22 in Hutchinson, Kansas. No. 4 Salt Lake's first game will be on Tuesday, March 18th at 10 am (CST) against the winner of District Three. #3 CSI 77 SALT LAKE CITY (February 29, 2008) - Men's Basketball lost their third game of the year to College of Eastern Utah tonight 57-54. The loss brings their record to 26-3 overall and 11-3 in conference play. Chris Medina was 4-8 from the field for 12 points and Aaron Smith was 5-7 for 12 points. Papa Samba Gussie scored seven points and grabbed eight boards. # 4 Salt Lake (26-3, 11-3) and CEU take the court again tomorrow at 3 pm in Bruin Arena. #4 SLCC 57 TWIN FALLS, Idaho (February 23, 2008) – The number four ranked Salt Lake CC (26-2, 11-2 SWAC) men’s basketball team took a tough loss to College of Southern Idaho 105-87. Vassy Banny was the leading scorer with 20 points and DaVell Jackson scored 19 with nine boards. Southern Idaho hit the glass hard out rebounding Salt Lake 43-28. No. 4 Salt Lake locks up a first round bye in the SWAC tournament. College of Eastern Utah comes into town for a two game set on February 29th and March 1st tip off scheduled for 7 pm on Friday and 3 pm on Saturday. #4 SLCC 87 #4 SLCC takes down #1 CSI TWIN FALLS, Idaho (February 22, 2008) – No.5 Salt Lake CC beats undefeated No. 1 College of Southern Idaho 90-78. Salt Lake takes their record to 26-1 and 11-1 in the SWAC the only loss coming in their last meeting with CSI. DaVell Jackson led the way for Salt Lake with 32 points, 8 rebounds and six assists, Brian Green scored 16 points and Vassy Banny finished with 11 points six boards. Aaron Smith came off the bench to contribute 10 points and missed a double double by one rebound. The tough Salt Lake defense held CSI to 31% shooting from the floor and 21% from behind the arc. SLCC 76 #7 Salt Lake CC Takes Two from Snow College No. 7 Salt Lake CC travels to North Idaho February 8th and 9th for a two game set against the Cardinals. SLCC 60 SALT LAKE CITY (February 1, 2008)-No.7 Salt Lake CC (20-1, 5-1 SWAC) defeated Snow College 68-52. Aaron Smith came off the bench with the hot hand to score 19 points and led all scorers. "We got a great spark off the bench tonight." Beck said. "We are very good when our bench answers the bell." SLCC 68 The Battle of the Undefeated SALT LAKE CITY (January 26, 2008)- The #3 Salt Lake CC Bruins (19-1, 4-1 SWAC) fell to the #2 College of Southern Idaho Eagles (20-0, 5-0 SWAC) 78-84 today at Bruin Arena. In front the largest crowd ever at Salt Lake, DaVell Jackson did all he could finishing with a season high 32 points on 12 of 21 shooting, playing all but two minuets of the game. Vassy Banny scored 16 and Brian Green finished with nine points. Salt Lake was out rebounded 13 to 7 on the offensive glass for 18-second chance points for Southern Idaho. Juan Pattillo led the Eagles with 31 on 11 of 17 shooting. Joey Shaw had 15 points and Artision Parakhouski had a double double with 13 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocks. Tip off set for 7pm on Friday and 3pm on Saturday. #3 SLCC 78 No. 3 Salt Lake CC Wins Home Opener SALT LAKE CITY (January 25, 2008)- In a tight back and fourth game between the #3 Salt Lake CC Bruins (19-0, 4-0 SWAC) and the North Idaho Cardinals (15-4, 1-3 SWAC), DaVell Jackson finished with 24 points (8-12 FG, 8-11 FT) and hit four of six free throws to ice the 62-57 win. Andy Palmer scored 11 points and crashed the boards for 6 rebounds while Papa Samba Guisse grabbed 8 boards. The #1 defense lived up to the ranking forcing 20 turnovers and holding North Idaho to 42% shooting and allowing only 8 of 22 three point shots. David Johnson and Humberto Perez finished with 14 points each for North Idaho. No. 3 Salt Lake CC runs head long into conference foe No. 2 College of Southern Idaho. Both teams come into the game undefeated in conference and regular season play. Salt Lake boasts the number one defense in the NJCAA and Southern Idaho ranks second in offence. RANGLEY, Colorado (January 19, 2008)- Brian Green (19 pts) finished in double figures for the second straight game helping Salt Lake to their 18th win of the season beating Colorado Northwestern 95-57. Andy Palmer scored 13 points, Papa Samba Guisse had 13 points and Aaron Smith finished with 10 points. No. 3 Salt Lake CC (18-0, 3-0 SWAC) returns home on January 25th for their first home game facing off against conference foe North Idaho College and on January 26th against undefeated #2 College of Southern Idaho. #3 SLCC 95 PRICE, Utah (January 18, 2008)- Brian Green leads #3 Salt Lake to their 17th win of the season beating College of Eastern Utah 83-64. Green connected on 9 of 17 shots from the field and 5 of 7 from behind the arc for 27 points. Andy Palmer scored 16 points on 6 of 8 shooting and was a perfect 3 of 3 from three-point range and Vassy Banny finished with 12 points. No. 3 Salt Lake (17-0, 2-0 SWAC) heads to Colorado Northwestern on Saturday to finish the western road swing. #3 SLCC 83 SALT LAKE CITY (January 16, 2008)- Salt Lake CC Men’s Basketball moves up two spots in the NJCAA polls to number three. This the highest rank of a Men’s team at Salt Lake Community College. Salt Lake is currently on a 16 game win streak, recently a tight three point win over Snow College. Salt Lake remains the number one ranked defensive team in the nation allowing only 49.8 points per game. Brian Green is ranked in the top ten in 3 point shooting making 55% of his attempts. The Men are on the road January 18th and 19th facing College of Eastern Utah and Colorado Northwestern. They return home for their first home conference game on January 25th against North Idaho College and take on #2 College of Southern Idaho on January 26th. #5 Salt Lake wins SWAC opener EPHRIAM, Utah (January 12, 2008)- With 16 seconds left in the game Brian Green hit a three-pointer to seal the 63-60 win for #5 Salt Lake CC. This win moves Salt Lake to 16-0 and 1-0 in the SWAC. DaVell Jackson led Salt Lake with 21 points. Late in the game Kael Pope took a charge and grabbed a decisive rebound in consecutive defensive stops to maintain the lead. "Great effort, great energy," said Coach Beck "and great playing on a tough floor." No.5 Salt Lake CC (16-0, 1-0 SWAC) heads down to Price, Utah to face College of Eastern Utah (9-5, 1-0 SWAC) on January 18th and then travels to Rangley, Colorado to play Colorado Northwestern College (2-9, 0-1 SWAC) on the 19th of January. #5 SLCC 63 Brian Green is the top scorer for Salt Lake with 16.5 points per game, DaVell Jackson is second with 11.6 points per game and Vassy Banny scores 10.3 points and grabs 5.3 boards per. As a team Salt Lake has outscored opponents by 30 plus points and scored and average of 85.7 points per contest. No. 5 Salt Lake CC (15-0) begins SWAC play against Snow College (7-4) on January 12th in Ephraim, Utah. During the three game sweep of the weekend Salt Lake beat each team by and average of 41 points and continued their tough defense holding all opponent to under 60 points a game. No. 6 Salt Lake heads into SWAC play against Snow College in Ephraim on January 12th. #6 SLCC 89 "We are deep, unselfish and play extremely hard. The energy we have on our bench in contagious." SALT LAKE CITY (December 8, 2007)- No. 8 Salt Lake CC improves their record to 12-0 beating No. 4 Northeastern College 82-61. Sophomore Brian Green led all scorers with 31 points on 10 - 15 from the field and 6 - 8 from behind the arc. In a game where there were 55 combined fouls Salt Lake shot 73% from the charity stripe on 38 attempts. Salt Lake continued their sharp shooting connecting on 53% of their shots from the floor. An kept the defensive pressure on forcing 13 turnovers and grabbing 3 steals. In the first half Salt Lake held Northeastern College to 16 point on 22% shooting from the field. Salt Lake’s bench contributed 14 points Aaron Smith contributing eight points of his own while NJC’s bench added only seven. Troy Smith led the way for Northeastern with 17 points and DeRay Wilson put in 16 of his own, however Northwestern could not overcome their poor first half shooting. No. 8 Salt Lake gets the holidays off and will return to the court January 3-5th at the College of Southern Idaho Tournament. (Game times TBA) #8 SLCC 82 SALT LAKE CITY (December 7, 2007)- After a close first half #8 Salt Lake CC (11-0) opened up a 27 point lead early in the second half and never look back beating Mt Hood 74-42. Salt Lake finished with 40 points in the paint compared to Mt Hoods four. Brian Green led all scores with 15 points on 6 of 14 shooting. Point guard DaVell Jackson had another strong night finishing with 14 points and Vassy Banny added 12 points missing only one shot on the night. Salt Lake's Kael Pope connected on 5 of 5 shots to finish with 11 points and grabbed 6 boards. Salt Lake held Treasure Valley to 31% shooting while shooting 65% from the field and connecting on 4 of 10 from behind the arc. Salt Lake had four players in double figures Brian Green (15), Vassy Banny (11), Andy Palmer (13) and DaVell Jackson (13). Treasure Valley committed 26 turnovers and was out rebounded by Salt Lake 32 to 18. No. 8 Salt Lake CC looks to make it eleven in a row tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. against Mt. Hood College. COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho (December 1, 2007) The 10th ranked Salt Lake CC Bruins (8-0) crushed Grant MacEwan College Friday night in Coeur D’Alene, ID. Salt Lake CC Bruin forward Vassy Banny led all scorers with 19 points and 8 rebounds. A solid 17 points from Brian Green and 17 points on the red-hot shooting of Aaron Smith who went 8-10 from the field. The Bruins held Gran MacEwan to 12 points in the second half. "Grant MacEwan was 13-2 coming into the game, they are very well coached." Beck Said. "We really turned it up defensively, we are pretty scary when we defend like we are capable." No. 10 Salt Lake CC host the annual Salt Lake CC tournament December 6th - 8th all tip off times are 7:30 pm at Bruin Arena. #10 SLCC 106 No 10 Salt Lake CC Crushes Edmonds CC by 37 (Coeur d'Alene, ID November 29, 2007)- No 10 Salt lake CC (7-0)defeats Edmonds CC 80-43. Brian Green lead all scorers with 15 points and Aaron Smith came off the bench to score 14. "One thing we have going for us is we are deep. We really had some guys step up tonight and it was a great team win." said Coach Russell Beck The Salt Lake Bruins will continue their battle to stay undefeated as they finish two more days of tournament play in Idaho. Our guys came out with fire in there eyes and really gave a great effort." Salt Lake CC returns home to host their own tournament December 6 thru December 8th. SLCC 99 No. 11 Salt Lake CC Men’s Basketball Stays Undefeated TWIN FALLS, Idaho (November 23, 2007)- No. 11 Salt Lake CC (5-0) men’s basketball team remains undefeated beating North Dakota State College of Science 90-63. Salt Lake jumped out to an early 21-5 lead that NDSCS could not overcome. Salt Lake had four players in double figure points. Brian Green led all scorers with 20 points, DaVell Jackson finished with 14, Vassy Banny had 13 points and Chris Medina and Dan Stafford each had eleven. "This was a great win on a neutral floor," said Coach Russell Beck "This team was 32-2 last year and has only lost 5 games in the last two years." No. 11 Salt Lake CC plays again Saturday, November 24th at 6pm against Chemeketa College at the College of Southern Idaho Tournament. SLCC 90
YUMA, Arizona (November 17, 2007)- The Salt Lake CC Men’s Basketball (4-0) team added another one to the win column beating Pima College 79-50. With a ten-point lead at halftime Salt Lake exploded in the second half to an easy win. Papa Samba Guisse finished the night with a double double (13 points, 13 rebounds). DaVell Jackson and Brian Green each had 10 point for Salt Lake. "We are pleased with the two early road wins, it's early and we have a lot to work on," Beck said. "Our effort in the first half was poor, but we refocused and got the job done. No. 15 Salt Lake CC heads on the road again November 23-24 at the College of Southern Idaho Tournament (games times TBA) No. 15 Salt Lake CC Men’s Basketball wins a close one 67-66 YUMA, Arizona (November 16, 2007)- Brian Green led all scorers with 25 points to give Salt Lake CC (3-0) a 67-66 win over No. 16 Arizona Western. Salt Lake had a 14-point lead going into halftime and never relinquished the lead the entire game. Dan Stafford sealed the win down the stretch with key free throws. "We came out with a lot of intensity from the get go," Beck said. "We were able to get a win against a great team that will win a lot of games this year, the guys really deserve a lot of credit they played extremely hard."
