Drew Robison #3 Drew Robinson
“Drew is a very tough, pure point guard. He is an outstanding passer and has a good feel for the game. He recently returned from his mission and as he regains his timing and gets into shape, he will help us a great deal.” ~ Coach Parrish

Drew enters his first year of collegiate basketball with Salt Lake after playing three years of high school basketball and golf as a Lehi Pioneer. He was named team MVP and recognized as a First Team All-State player in 2003 and 2004 before going on a mission for two years. Drew was also an Academic All-State player.

Austin Robison #5 Austin Robison
“Austin is a big skilled player. He possesses a fine shooting touch and has a good feel for the game. He is a recent returned missionary and once he’s back into shape, he could be a valuable weapon for us.” ~ Coach Parrish

Austin comes to Salt Lake from Jordan High School in Sandy after completing a two year mission for the LDS church. As a Beetdigger, Austin earned First Team All-State honors in basketball and lettered in both basketball and baseball. He was also a member of the JHS honor roll. Austin’s father played basketball at then-Ricks College and his sister is currently a senior at Jordan, participating in every sport.

DaVell Jackson #10 DaVell Jackson
“Davell is a very good point guard. He came on last year and had a good year here. He can really get to the rim and also draw a lot of fouls. Davell has the potential to be listed among some of the best point guards we have had here at Salt Lake.” ~ Coach Parrish

Davell played in all but three games for Salt Lake last season, averaging 7.1 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists. He shot .466 percent from the field and .720 from the free throw line. The Nevada native and former high school football player has made a goal of being the starting point guard for the Bruins this year.

Chris Medina #11 Chris Medina
“Chris red-shirted last year after playing very well the year before. Chris plays at a very high energy, which really helps our team. He is an outstanding young man and helps our team in almost every aspect of the game.”  ~ Coach Parrish

Chris spent the 2006-07 season as a redshirt for Salt Lake after suiting up for Coach Parrish in 2005-06. A top-notch shooter from short and long range, Chris has improved his ball handling and defense and has worked on his leadership abilities in the offseason and while on the sidelines last year.

Dathan Lyles #12 Dathan Lyles
“Dathan started at point guard last year. So far in the fall, he is playing even better than a year ago. He is extremely quick and a very good shooter. Dathan always works hard and he is a pleasure to coach.”  ~ Coach Parrish

Dathan is a returning Second Team All-Region player for Salt Lake, having averaged 6.8 points and a team-leading 3.3 assists as a freshman. He started in all 33 games and connected on 32 three-point shots and a team-high 56 steals in 23.3 minutes of action a night. He has worked on his shooting in the offseason and is ready to be the floor leader for the Bruins in 2007-08.

Aaron Smith #15 Aaron Smith
“Aaron is an outstanding shooter and the fact that he is 6-8 makes that part of his game even more unique. He should be a major weapon for us this year. As he gets stronger and more aggressive, he could play at a very high level.” ~ Coach Parrish

Aaron enters his sophomore season with the Bruins after spending the 2006-07 season as a University of Idaho Vandal. The former Northern Idaho Basketball Player of the Year and Idaho 1A State Player of the Year as a senior in high school is the first athlete from Troy to go directly to a NCAA Division I school. Following in the steps of his grandfather who played collegiate basketball at Weber State, Aaron is here at Salt Lake because of “the great coaches and teammates.”

Yahosh Bonner #20 Yahosh Bonner
“Yahosh is probably as physically strong of a point guard as there is in junior college. He is a great young man. We will look to him to really be a consistent stabilizing force for our team.”  ~ Coach Parrish

Yahosh comes to Salt Lake after serving a two-year mission to Tampa, Fla. and spending one season of play at Cochise College in Douglas, Arizona. Highly recruited out of high school by the likes of Brigham Young University and Southern Utah, Yahosh averaged 8.4 points per game at Cochise and looks to perform even better this year.

Vassy Banny #22 Bassy Banny
“Banny really came on strong last year. He is an unbelievably talented player. His strength allows him to be a complete player. If he will consistently give a complete effort, he could be an All-Region type athlete.”  ~ Coach Parrish

Vassy is back for his final season of junior college basketball having averaged 5.5 points and 4.0 rebounds in 14.9 minutes per game as a freshman for Salt Lake. He shot a team-high .617 percent from the field in 32 games played. Vassy also led the Bruins in rebounding six times and was named an Academic All-Region player.

Brian Green #23 Brian Green
“Brian is one of the best shooters to ever play at Salt Lake. Though he is a great shooter, his greatest attribute is his toughness. His toughness is contagious, making him a team leader. He had a great year last year and we expect even more this season.” ~ Coach Parrish

Brian is one of two returning Second Team All-Region players for head coach Norm Parrish. He was the Bruins’ second leading scorer (13.9) and second leading assist man (2.8). Brian made a team-high 75 three-pointers while starting 31 of 33 games as a freshman. His 50 steals led all Salt Lake players in the 2006-07 season.

Dan Stafford #30 Dan Stafford
“Dan is a strong, skilled, hard nosed player. He contributed on a very good team here three years ago, so he knows how to win. We expect him to really step up his game and be a team leader this year.” ~ Coach Parrish

Dan played his freshman season with the Bruins in 2004-05 and is returning for his sophomore year after serving a two-year mission to Japan. His brother Ike played at Salt Lake that same year and is now playing professionally in Germany. The international business major is excited for another year of Bruin basketball and another run at the conference championship.

Andy Palmer #33 Andy Palmer
“Andy is a steady, strong, and smart player. He is very skilled and very effective. He is a good teammate, who does some of the little things that win ball games. He really contributed to our team last year and we expect the same this  year.”  ~ Coach Parrish

Andy made four starts for the Bruins last season and saw action in 32 games. He averaged 5.9 points and 3.1 rebounds in 17 minutes a contest. Andy was also clutch from the free throw line owning a .738 season average. Named an Academic All-Region player, the business major has gotten stronger in the offseason.

Kael Pope #35 Kael Pope
“Kael red-shirted at Southern Utah University last year. He is a strong tough player. We really need Kael to establish a physical presence inside. He works extremely hard and values the ball. He is definitely going to help us win games.” ~ Coach Parrish

Kael spent the 2006-07 season as a red-shirt under Bill Evans at Southern Utah University. Prior to joining the Thunderbirds, the youngest of nine children was named Idaho’s 2A Player of the Year. He averaged 18 points, 12 rebounds and seven blocks per game in leading the WHS Trojans to a 25-0 record and a state championship as senior. Kael was also a defensive tackle and tight end on the Trojan football team and lettered in track.

Krispin Banks #40 Krispin Banks
“Krispin is big, has a nice touch, and great hands. As he develops his post game, he can really contribute to this team. Before he is done here, I look for him to be an outstanding player. “ ~ Coach Parrish

The lone Texan on this year’s team, Krispin joins the Bruins from Garland, a suburb of Dallas. He lettered in basketball and football at Bellingham-Sequalicum High School before going on a two year mission. He maintained honor roll status while helping his team to a District Runner-up finish.

Papa Samba Guisse #45 Papa Samba Guisse
“Pops is long and athletic and always works hard. He has really improved the last two years. He is one of the keys to our success. If he comes in and has a great year, we as a team will also have a great year.”  ~ Coach Parrish

Papa averaged 3.7 points and 2.9 rebounds in 8.7 minutes a game last season for Salt Lake and worked his way into more playing time during conference action. He shot .552 percent from the field and led the Bruins with 18 blocks. Papa also earned Academic All-Region status as a freshman. He hopes to win a SWAC championship in his final year at SLCC.

Marc Van Burck #55 Marc Van Burck
“Marc is big and has a good presence in the paint. If he will defend, rebound, and make simple plays, he will be very effective. As his game improves, it could make us an outstanding team.” ~ Coach Parrish

Marc, a native of Saskatchewan Canada, joins the Bruins after playing his freshman season at the University of Colorado. He spent most of the season with a foot injury and saw action in just nine games as a Buffalo. Marc didn’t begin playing basketball until he was in the ninth grade. Within four years, he was voted one of the top centers in Canada having played on Saskatchewan’s 2005 Canada Games summer team (17-under) that captured a bronze medal and on the Canadian Junior National Team for the last two years.
