
SLCC Volleyball outlasts CSI to win the Region 18 Championship
SALT LAKE CITY (November 7, 2009) – The top seeded Salt Lake Community College Bruins fought their way to a five set win over College of Southern Idaho. The Bruins won the first two sets 25-18 and 25-14 but Southern Idaho would not go quietly taking the next two sets 25-22 and 25-22. In the fifth and deciding set Salt Lake’s offense gained control with a hitting percentage of .450 to lead the Bruins to a 15-11 win and the NJCAA National Tournament berth.
Freshmen Ame White had her best game of the season finishing with 17 kills, 15 digs and committing only three errors the entire match. Erika Charry controlled the middle of the floor with nine block assists to go along with eight kills. Outside hitter Shelbi Zaldain connected on 16 kills and Lakell Havens hit .455 to finish with 14 kills and four block assists. Setter Catalina Charry finished with a season high 54 set assists and 14 defensive digs. Salt Lake’s blockers complied a season high 13.5 team blocks and held the tough Southern Idaho hitters to a .178 hitting percentage.
No. 4 Salt Lake CC (27-7) will now wait to find out what seed they will receive at the NJCAA National Tournament held on November 19-20 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

SLCC Volleyball Advances to Championship
SALT LAKE CITY (November 6, 2009) – The top seeded SLCC Bruins overcame a slow start to advance to the championship match by defeating Snow College 3-1. Salt Lake lost the first match 22-25 but rebounded taking the next three in convincing fashion winning 25-22, 25-21 and 25-18.
In the first set SLCC got off to a shaky start falling behind 8-3 early on. Salt Lake was able to tie the match at 19 however Snow went on a four point blitz that the Bruins were unable to overcome losing 25-22. The Bruins controlled the second set from the start; with the game tied at four Melissa Fifita went on a five point run finishing the run off with a service ace. The five point run propelled Salt Lake to the easy 25-11 win. Set three looked to be heading the same direction of the second set however Snow was able to make a run and take the lead 16-15 when LaKell Haven’s took to the service line. Haven’s service ace began a four point swing for Salt Lake that clinched set at 25-21. The final set was back and forth until Kelsey Campbell’s tough serve led Salt Lake on a seven point run which finished off Snow 25-18.
Sophomore Melissa Fifita had a team high 15 kills on 30 swings for a hitting percentage of .367 and Shelbi Zaldain continued to be an offensive force connecting on 12 kills. Whitney Nilson finished with a
double double for the fourth time this season ending with 10 kills and 15 digs.
The top seeded SLCC Bruins will face the third seeded College of Southern Idaho Eagles in the Region 18 Championship match beginning at 1 pm in Bruin Arena.

SLCC Volleyball Falls in Final Regular Season Match
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (October 31, 2009) - In the final regular season SWAC match Salt Lake CC was unable to steal a road win from a tough Southern Idaho team losing in four sets 12-25, 21-25, 28-26 and 21-25. Salt Lake CC finishes the regular season with a 8-2 SWAC record and a 25-7 mark overall.
Sophomore LaKell Havens led the attack with 13 kills, three aces and eight block assists. Setter Catalina Charry finished with 25 assists as well as 13 digs.
No.4 Salt Lake CC will now host the Region 18 Tournament beginning on November 6th. Salt Lake will play at 7 pm on the 6th and will take on the winner out of Snow College and Eastern Utah.

SLCC Volleyball Hands #1 North Idaho their First Home Loss
COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (October 29, 2009) - The SLCC Bruin Volleyball (25-6, 8-1 SWAC) team clinched the Region 18 Championship tonight handing #1 North Idaho (26-5, 7-2 SWAC) their fifth loss of the season. The Bruins took out the number one ranked team in four sets 25-20, 25-23, 22-25 and 25-16. Salt Lake now earns the right to host the Region 18 tournament and receives the number one seed.
Hitter Shelbi Zaldain led the Bruins with 16 kills, two service aces and four blocks. Lakell Havens had her best service game of the season finishing with a season high six aces along with 10 kills. Setter Catalina Charry had 41 sets and defensively Whitney Nilson had 13 digs.
Salt Lake CC will host the Region 18 Tournament starting on November 6th. Salt Lake receives the number one seed and will play on the 6th at 7 pm against the winner of the 5th and 4th seed. The winner of that match moves on to the Championship game at 1pm on November 7th.

SLCC Volleyball’s Nilson Named NJCAA Player of the Week
SALT LAKE CITY (October 29, 2009) – Sophomore Whitney Nilson was named NJCAA Volleyball Player of the Week for October 26-29th. Over a two game period Nilson connected on 22 kills along with 27 digs to lead the Bruins over Western Wyoming and Snow College. In a five set thriller against Snow College, Nilson finished with a season high 15 kills and 16 digs.
Salt Lake (24-6, 7-1 SWAC) is currently ranked #5 in the NJCAA national polls and in a two-way tie atop the SWAC Conference.

SLCC Volleyball Wins a Five Set Thriller
EPHRAIM, Utah (October 23, 2009) - The Salt Lake CC Volleyball team defeated Snow College in a five set thriller that saw the Bruins lose the first two sets only to roar back and win three straight. Snow defended their home court winning the first two sets 25-22 and 25-23 but Salt Lake rallied to win the next three sets 25-14, 25-19 and 15-8. With the tough road win behind them Salt Lake is now 24-6 over all and stays atop the SWAC with a 7-1 record.
Two Bruins finished with a double double, Whitney Nilson with 14 kills and 14 digs and Shelbi Zaldain had 10 kills and 10 digs. Libero Kelsey Campbell added in 19 digs along with Erika Charry's 41 set assists. Ame White contributed with four service aces and 12 kills.
No. 5 Salt Lake CC (24-6, 7-1) enters into their hardest road trip of the season, traveling to #1 North Idaho(24-2, 6-1 SWAC) and #3 College of Southern Idaho (22-4, 4-2 SWAC). Salt Lake is currently in a two-way tie atop the SWAC with North Idaho. Salt Lake won the previous match against North Idaho therefore if Salt Lake splits the weekend they will earn the rights to host the Region 18 Tournament.

SLCC Volleyball Wins Another over Western Wyoming
ROCK SPRINGS, Wyoming (October 20, 2009) – The fifth ranked Salt Lake Community College Bruins traveled up to Rock Springs to take on Western Wyoming Mustangs winning the match 3-1. Salt Lake won the first set 25-12 then dropped the second set 17-25 before taking the final two 25-21 and 25-22. Salt Lake is now 23-6 overall and remains in a three way tie for first place in the SWAC with a record of 6-1.
Erika Charry connected on 10 kills and had two solo blocks to lead the Bruins while sister Catalina Charry had 24 sets in the match. Shelbi Zaldain continued to be a scoring threat from the service line with four aces. Whitney Nilson helped defensively finishing with a team high 11 digs.
No. 5 Salt Lake (23-6, 6-1 SWAC) heads down to Ephraim Utah to take on Snow College this Friday October 23rd. Salt Lake controls their own destiny, win out the seasons and win the SWAC title and hosting rights for the tournament.

SLCC Volleyball Closes out Home Season with a Win
SALT LAKE CITY (October 17, 2009) - The fifth ranked Bruins of Salt Lake got off to a sluggish start dropping the first set to College of Eastern Utah 15-25. However, the Bruins flexed there muscles and took the next three sets 25-17, 25-16 and 25-14. The 3-1 match win takes Salt Lakes record to 22-6 over all and 6-1 in SWAC play.
Freshmen Shelbi Zaldain continued her first season success with 13 kills in the match and a hitting percentage of .476. Sophomore Whitney Nilson added in 10 kills of her own in her final home match at SLCC. In the match the stiff Bruin "D" held Eastern Utah to a hitting percentage of .139 and forced 23 errors.
No. 5 Salt Lake (22-6, 6-1 SWAC) hits the road to close out the regular season with matches against Snow College and a tough trip to Southern Idaho and North Idaho.

SLCC Volleyball Cruises past CNCC
SALT LAKE CITY (October 16, 2009) – The Salt Lake CC Volleyball team cruised past Colorado Northwestern winning easily 25-12, 25-14 and 25-14. The win keeps Salt Lake in a three way tie for first place with a record of 5-1 in conference play and 21-6 overall.
Salt Lake came out swinging against Colorado, finishing the match with a .417 hitting percentage. Sheila Uluave connected on 12 kills in the match with a hitting percentage of .500 and Shelbi Zaldain continued on her hot streak finishing with nine kills. The stiff Salt Lake defense held Colorado under .150 hitting percentage in each set.
Salt Lake (21-6, 5-1 SWAC) has there final home game tomorrow against College of Eastern Utah at 3 pm in Bruin Arena. The team will be honoring their sophomores during the match, as it will be there final regular season home game.

Zaldain Leads SLCC Volleyball past No. 1 ranked North Idaho
SALT LAKE CITY (October 10, 2009) – The Salt Lake CC Volleyball team came out with fire in their eyes as they defeated number one ranked North Idaho College (22-4, 4-1 SWAC) three sets to one. No. 5 Salt Lake took the first set 25-15 and never looked back winning the third and fourth sets easily, final scores 25-15, 13-25, 25-21 and 25-15. Salt Lake is now 4-1 in SWAC play and 19-6 overall.
Freshman Shelbi Zaldain took her game to another level connecting on a season high 17 kills with a hitting percentage of .484. Defensively, Salt Lake held a strong North Idaho offense to a hitting percentage of .126 and forced 24 hitting errors. Libero Kelsey Campbell led with 18 digs followed by Anna Burgess with 14 digs.
No. 5 Salt Lake (19-6, 4-1 SWAC) is now in a three way tie for first place in the SWAC with each team having one loss in conference play. The team looks tally two more wins and remain on top with Colorado Northwestern (4-13, 0-4 SWAC) and College of Eastern Utah (11-12, 1-3 SWAC) coming in to town to play next weekend. First Salt Lake takes on Colorado Northwestern on Friday, October 16 at 7 pm and then on Saturday, October 17 at 3 pm against College of Eastern Utah.

SLCC Volleyball Drops a Heart-stopping Five Set Match
SALT LAKE CITY (October 9, 2009) – In front of a rowdy crowd at Bruin Arena the fifth ranked Salt Lake Community College Bruins battled against the second ranked College of Southern Idaho Eagles dropping a five set match; 20-25, 25-22, 18-25, 25-22 and 7-15. The Bruins are now 3-1 in conference play and 18-6 overall.
The match was a back and forth affair seeing both teams take advantage of each other’s mistakes. Salt Lake and Southern Idaho each finished with a hitting percentage below .200 and both teams had 13 service errors. Whitney Nilson finished the game with a double double having 11 kills along with 13 digs. Shelbi Zaldain led the team with 12 kills and libero Kelsey Campbell had a team high 21 digs.
Salt Lake looks to regroup quickly with #1 ranked North Idaho coming into town tomorrow afternoon. Salt Lake (18-6, 3-1 SWAC) faces North Idaho (22-3, 4-0 SWAC) at 3 pm in Bruin Arena.

No. 5 SLCC Overpowers Snow College taking the Match 3-0
SALT LAKE CITY (October 2, 2009) – The fifth ranked SLCC Bruins overpowered the Badgers of Snow College winning in three sets 25-18, 25-22 and 25-11. The Bruins are unbeaten in SWAC play with a perfect 3-0 mark and move to 18-5 overall.
The Bruin offensive attack was a team effort with Shelbi Zaldain killing eight balls on 17 swings and LaKell Havens connecting on seven kills. On the defensive side, the Bruins held Snow to a .009 hitting percentage forcing 24 Badger errors while Anna Burgess had 12 digs. Whitney Nilson (4) and Havens (5) combined to have nine of the teams 14 team blocks.
No. 5 SLCC (18-5, 3-0 SWAC) remains on the home stand facing top ranked North Idaho College (21-3, 3-0 SWAC) and #2 College of Southern Idaho (18-3, 2-1 SWAC). No. 5 Salt Lake faces #2 Southern Idaho October 9th at 7 pm and then takes on #1 North Idaho October 10th at 3 pm. All games are played at Bruin Arena located in the Lifetimes Activities Center.

SLCC Volleyball Concludes Road Trip with Easy Three Set Win
RANGLEY, Colorado (September 26, 2009) - No. 6 Salt Lake CC Volleyball takes the easy three set victory over Colorado Northwestern winning 25-10, 25-11 and 25-8. Salt Lake remains undefeated in conference play and moves to 18-5 overall.
Hitter Ame White picked up five points alone serving five aces from the back line along with eight kills in the match. Shelbi Zaldian knocked down nine kills with three aces. Both Erika Charry and Anna Nostrant chipped in eight kills with Anna Burgess digging 15 balls.
No. 6 Salt Lake (18-5, 2-0 SWAC) now returns home for three week home stand starting October 3rd against Snow College. On October 9th #6 Salt Lake is hosting the first annual Dig Pink match against #1 College of Southern Idaho.

PRICE, Utah (September 25, 2009) - The sixth ranked SLCC Bruin Volleyball team won their opening confrence match against College of Eastern Utah. The Bruins took care of business defeating Eastern Utah in three sets 25-15, 25-7 and 25-17. Salt Lake is now 16-5 over all and 1-0 in SWAC play.
Freshmen Ame White led the charge for Salt Lake with seven digs, four blocks and ten kills. Setter Naomi Flinders finished with 27 sets and added seven digs in the match.

SLCC Volleyball falls to #1 CSI in Three Sets
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (September 20, 2009) – The SLCC Bruins Volleyball faced a tough task, beating #1 ranks CSI on their home court. The Bruins fell to #1 CSI in three sets, 20-25, 22-25 and 22-25. The loss drops SLCC’s record to 16-5 with SWAC play beginning next weekend.
Freshmen outside hitter Shelbi Zaldain had a season high 14 kills and freshmen Erika Charry finished with seven kills in the loss. Defensively for SLCC, Kelsey Campbell finished with eight digs, Whitney Nilson dug seven balls and LaKell Havens assisted on five blocks.
Salt Lake (16-5, 0-0 SWAC) hits the road for the first conference games of the season. September 25 Salt Lake visits College of Eastern Utah and on the 26th the team heads to Rangley, Colorado to face Colorado Northwestern.

Charry Leads Salt Lake CC Volleyball to another Win
TWIN FALLS, ID (September 19, 2009) – At the CSI-Starr Corporation Invitational no. 6 Salt Lake CC Bruins earned a four-set win over #17 Frank Phillips College (16-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-17). Salt Lake increased their record to 16-4, with a demanding match against tournament host CSI tonight.
Erika Charry finished with nine kills on nine swings for a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage. Ame’ White and Whitney Nilson got into the kill action with eight a piece and LaKell Haven added seven kills of her own. Shilea Uulave led the team with nine digs and Kelsey Campbell finished one behind with eight digs.
No. 6 Salt Lake will now face #1 ranked CSI, who dropped a earlier match to #3 North Idaho for there second loss of the season. Their first loss came at the hands of Salt Lake CC.

No. 6 Salt Lake Volleyball Defeats #3 North Idaho in Four-Sets
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (September 18, 2009) - The sixth ranked Salt Lake CC Bruins faced a difficult two matches today at the CSI -Starr Corporation Invitational. Facing a strong #3 North Idaho team and defending National Champions #2 Blinn College. Salt Lake defeated #3 North Idaho in four sets (25-19, 25-19, 17-25 and 25-22) but fell to #2 Blinn in four sets (27-25, 20-25, 20-25 and 23-25). With the road split #6 Salt Lake is now 15-4.
The Bruins had struggled against #3 North Idaho; two of Salt Lake's three losses had come at the hands of North Idaho. However third times the charm for Salt Lake, winning the match in four 25-19, 25-19, 17-25 and 25-22. Shelbi Zaldain was an offensive force with 12 kills and three service aces. Erika Charry and Melissa Fifita each added 10 kills to aid in the Bruin attack.
Next up was the defending 2008 National Champions, #2 Blinn College of Texas, #6 Salt Lake put up a fight losing in 3-1 (27-25, 20-25, 20-25 and 23-25). Melissa Fiftia had another strong game putting 12 kills to the floor. Shelbi Zaldain and LaKell Havens each had 10 kills. Catalina Charry finished with 32 assist sets and defensively Kelsey Campbell dug 11 balls while Anna Burgess had 10 digs.
No. 6 Salt Lake (15-4, 0-0 SWAC) finishes the weekend with two more intense matches against #17 Frank Phillips College and the #1 ranked team College of Southern Idaho. The Bruins return home on October 3rd to take on Snow College.

No. 3 SLCC Volleyball Brings Home Three more WIns
SCOTTSDALE, AZ (September 12, 2009) – The third ranked Salt Lake CC Volleyball (14-3) team won two and lost one in the final three games at the Scottsdale Tournament. Defeating Glendale Community in four sets, dropping a hard-hitting five set match to #16 Eastern Arizona and winning a close five set match against host Scottsdale Community.
Salt Lake defeated Glendale in three sets winning 25-17, 25-21 and 25-22. Freshmen Sheila Uluave and Shelbi Zaldain each had three aces from the service line. Anna Burgess dug 17 balls off the hardwood, Melissa Fifita put down nine balls and Naomi Flinders had 28 set assists.
In the second match, #3 Salt Lake suffered a five set loss to #16 Eastern Arizona losing 25-20, 25-27, 20-25, 26-24 and 10-15. The hard-hitting match featured freshmen Ame’ White’s first double double, hitting 11 kills and digging 30 balls. Erika Charry (14), LaKell Havens (12) and Melissa Fifita (12) each finished with double digit kills in the loss.
The last game, No. 3 Salt Lake looked to rebound against host Scottsdale Community. Melissa Fifita led the way with 18 kills in the five set win over Scottsdale (20-25, 25-16, 20-25, 25-23 and 15-10). Ame’ White and Erika Charry each connected on 13 kills. Keeping Scottsdale off the scoreboard were Kelsey Campbell with 22 digs and Whitney Nilson with 17 digs.
No. 3 Salt Lake returns home on October 3rd to face SWAC opponent Snow College. All games are played at the LAC- Bruin Arena located on the Taylorsville Redwood Campus.

SCOTTSDALE, Arizona (September 11, 2009) – No. 3 Salt Lake CC Bruin volleyball wins two matches on the road against Yavapai (25-20, 25-14, 25-10) and a five set thriller against #19 Arizona Western (22-25, 25-18, 25-23, 23-25, 15-13). With the two wins #3 Salt Lake is now 12-2 and 5-1 on the road
Sophomore Melissa Fifita led the third ranked Bruins with 11 kills and five digs in the three set win against Yavapai (25-20, 25-14, 25-10). Erika Charry hit six kills and blocked two and LaKell Havens connected on four aces from the service line.
No. 19 Arizona Western put up a strong fight losing to #3 Salt Lake in a five set thriller (22-25, 25-18, 25-23, 23-25, 15-13). Erika Charry put 13 balls down on the floor and was a defensive force with six blocks. Ame’ White killed 10 balls with the help of Catalina Charry who finished with 36 sets. Libero Kim Gourley dug 15 balls from the back row.
No. 3 Salt Lake (12-2) hits the hard wood again tonight at 6 pm against Glendale Community and tomorrow at 1 pm against Scottsdale Community. The team returns home on October 3rd to face Snow College.

SLCC Volleyball Ranked #3 in NJCAA
SALT LAKE CITY (September 11, 2009) – The Salt Lake Community College Volleyball team is ranked 3rd in the NJCAA Division I National poll. Salt Lake has a record of 10-2 with their only two losses coming from No. 2 ranked North Idaho. The team has impressive wins against #4 Western Nebraska, #7 Missouri State-West Plains, # 8 College of Southern Idaho, #14 Northeastern College and #19 Arizona Western.
Freshmen Ame’ White leads the team offensively with 70 kills in the young season followed by sophomore Whitney Nilson and freshmen Shelbi Zaldain both with 69 kills. Zaldain also leads the team with 25 service aces. Salt Lake has proved to be solid on the defensive side of the ball, holding opponents to 1.7 kills per game, digging 13.9 balls and 2.1 blocks per game.
No. 3 Salt Lake returns home October 3rd to take on Snow College at Bruin Arena. Match time set for 7pm.

SALT LAKE CITY ( September 5, 2009) – Salt Lake CC volleyball placed second at the Marriott Residence Inn tournament losing to North Idaho (25-14, 14-25, 27-25, 22-25, 10-15) in a five set championship match. Salt Lake played three matches during the day beating Western Nebraska (18-25, 25-18, 15-12) and Missouri State West Plains (24-26, 25-22, 25-22, 23-25, 15-12). Salt Lake’s record is now 10-2 with their only losses to North Idaho in the season.
In the first match Salt Lake faced a tough Western Nebraska team. In a three set match where both teams played sloppy, Salt Lake was able to pull ahead and take the match, 18-25, 25-18 & 15-12. Ame’ White led Salt Lake with seven kills; Shelbi Zaldain tallied six kills and libero Kim Gourley had eight defensive digs. Western Nebraska committed 19 attacking errors while Salt Lake only had eight errors.
Salt Lake earned the number one seed in the tournament with a 5-0 record. A three way tie for second place meant that a tough Missouri State West Plains was the first opponent in bracket play.
Salt Lake and Missouri battled for five matches with each set within three points; 24-26, 25-22, 25-22, 23-25 & 15-12. Offensively, Erika Charry led the charge with 13 kills and Whitney Nilson finished with 11 kills, seven blocks. Catalina Charry had a season high 41 sets and Gourley posted a season high 19 digs. The win against Missouri put Salt Lake into the championship game against North Idaho College.
The championship match started promising for Salt Lake winning easily 25-14. However North Idaho answered back beating Salt Lake easily 14-25. The next three sets went back and forth with Salt Lake winning the third 27-25 but dropping the final two 22-25 and 10-15. Whitney Nilson finished with a double- double with 13 kills and 10 digs while Melissa Fifita registered 11 kills. Libero Kim Gourley had a season high 29 digs from the back row.
Salt Lake (10-2) hits the road for the Scottsdale Tournament in Arizona on September 11-12.

Salt Lake Volleyball adds to the Win Column
SALT LAKE CITY (September 4, 2009) – The Salt Lake Community College volleyball team opened up the Marriott Residence Inn tournament with four strong wins. Salt Lake defeated Central Wyoming (25-17, 25-16), Arizona Western (25-18, 25-10), Northeastern College (25-17, 25-22) and Jefferson College (25-20, 22-25, 15-12). The four wins puts Salt Lake’s record at 8-1 heading into tomorrow’s tournament bracket play.
Against Central Wyoming, Salt Lake was led on the attack by Shelbi Zaldain with seven kills. Catalina Charry and Namoi Flinders combined for 22 of the 24 sets in the games. On the defensive side Kelsey Campbell had seven digs while Anna Burgess had six.
Salt Lake took care of business quickly against Arizona Western winning the matches easily. Salt Lake had 28 team kills compared to only nine for Western. Flinders propelled the offense with 14 sets and Zaldain served three aces. Defensively, Kelsey Campbell had six digs and two service aces.
The third match was against Northeastern College with Salt Lake winning 25-17 and 25-22. Zaldain led the way with five kills and four aces. Charry and Flinders each had nine sets. Defensively, Campbell had eight digs and LaKell Havens had four block assists.
The final match of Friday was Salt Lake’s toughest going three sets. Whitney Nilson led the offence with eight kill and Charry had 25 sets. Flinders entered the game in the third set and contributed with six sets to push the Bruins to the win. Campbell had another defensive game with 10 digs. Erika Charry had nine kills in the games and three block assists.
Salt Lake heads into the final day of the tournament with a single cross-over match in the morning and bracket play beginning in the afternoon.

No. 5 Bruins Win Season Opener at Home
SALT LAKE CITY (September 1, 2009) – No. 5 Salt Lake CC volleyball beat Western Wyoming CC in three games; 25-20, 25-21 and 25-13. The win brings Salt Lake’s record to 4-1 on the season.
Every Salt Lake CC player saw action in the three games. Freshmen Erika Charry led the offense with nine kills followed by sophomore Anna Nostrant with eight kills and freshmen Shelbi Zaldain served six aces in two matches. Salt Lake had 45 total kills compared to only 14 for Western. On the defensive side of the ball Salt Lake tallied three team blocks against the Western attack and Kelsey Campbell had eight digs.
No. 5 Salt Lake now hosts the Marriott Residence Inn Invitational on September 3-4 at Bruin Arena. Salt Lake begins the tournament at 8:30 am on Friday, September 3rd and concludes the tournament Saturday, September 4th. SLCC Bruins Open Season with Three Wins
Salt Lake City (August 30, 2009) – The SLCC Bruin Volleyball team opened up the 2009 season on the road at the Outback Invitational in Twin Falls. Idaho. Salt Lake finished the tournament with three wins and one loss. Winning games against Colorado Northwestern, Northwest College and Southern Idaho.
The first game of the season was against conference opponent Colorado Northwestern. Salt Lake won in three games 25-8, 25-13 and 25-14. Melissa Fifita led the team with seven aces in two games and Catalina Charry had a team high 20 assists.
Salt Lake took the second game against Northwest College 25-20, 23-25, 25-16 and 25-8. Kelsey Campbell finished with 18 digs, Ame White had 10 digs and LaKell Havens contributed five blocks.
North Idaho proved to be a force beating Salt Lake in three 18-25, 19-25 and 23-25. Havens had eight kills and White had a team high nine kills with 11 digs.
Salt Lake saved the best game for last; taking on rival Southern Idaho winning in five games 25-18, 20-25, 23-25, 25-21 and 15-11. Campbell led the defensive side of the ball finishing with 16 digs and Kim Gourley added 15 digs. Anna Nostrant finished with seven blocks. Offensively Whitney Nilson had 14 kills and Shelbi Zaldain put down 12 kills of her own.
Salt Lake (3-1) opens at home on Tuesday September 1st to take on Western Wyoming at 6 pm. All games are played at Bruin Arena located in the Lifetime Activities Center.
