Salt Lake CC Announces New Head Volleyball Coach
SALT LAKE CITY (April 10, 2008) – Athletic Director Norma Carr is pleased to announce that Susan Dulaney is the new head volleyball coach at Salt Lake Community College.  Coach Dulaney has been the head coach at Western Wyoming College since 2000.  She has led Western Wyoming to Region IX titles in 2004 and 2006.  In 2001 she received the WCCAC Coach of the Year, 2004 named the District I Coach of the Year and in 2006 earned both the Region IX and District Coach of the Year honors.

 “Sue will be a great addition our volleyball program.   She brings experience to SLCC that will continue developing players to reach their potential and keep SLCC volleyball program moving in the right direction.” said Athletic Director Norma Carr.

Salt Lake CC Volleyball Announces 2008 Signing ClassAnalaine

SALT LAKE CITY (February 1, 2008)- The Nationally ranked Salt Lake CC Volleyball team is pleased to announce the signing of 5 top recruits to the 2008 freshmen class.  Brittny Lolohea (Highland H.S), Whitney Nilson (Skyline H.S), Analaine Palaez (Fremont H.S.), Annalisa Nostrant (Snow Canyon H.S.) and LaKell Havens (Dixie H.S.). 

"This is a fantastic group of freshman!  Not only are they classy young Annaladies, but they are all very strong players with extensive athletic backgrounds and experience that will certainly contribute to the winning tradition here at SLCC, said Head Coach Shay Goulding “I am very excited to call them Bruins and to add them to the talent of our returning sophomores."

Brittny Lolohea, a 5’11 outside hitter and middle blocker, hails from the 2005 Highland High State Championship team.  She was named All- Region and All-State each of her four years at Highland.  She was also named the 2007 Molten Classic MVP.Brittny

Whitney Nilson, a 5’9 outside hitter, was named to the 2007 5A All-State team for Skyline High School.  Whitney was named team captain for Skyline and made the Las Vegas Invitational All-Tournament Team.

Analaine Pelaez, a 5’10 outside hitter comes from Fremont High School.  During her High School career she was named All-Region MVP, All-Area MVP and 5A All-State.  In 2007 she was named the 5A State MVP.LaKell

Annalisa Nortrant, a 6’2 middle blocker from Snow Canyon High School was a member of the 2006 and 2007 State Championship Teams.  She was named to the Senior All-Star Team and was 2006 All-State Second Team.

LaKell Havens, a 6’1 middle blocker from Dixie High School in St. George, Utah was named to the 2007 All-State Team and the 2007 Senior All-Star Team.  In 2006 LaKell was named to the 2006 Second Team All-State Teams in Volleyball and WhitneyBasketball.

Head Coach Shay Goulding signed these athletes to National Letters of Intent on February 2nd at Texas Roadhouse on Redwood Road.

Salt Lake CC Volleyball has two named NJCAA All-Americans
SALT LAKE CITY (December 4, 2007) Salt Lake CC Volleyball announces that Misa Hanakova and Cinthia Silva both made the NJCAA All American list.  Sophomore Setter Misa Hanakova is a first team selection.  Ranking in the top twenty players with 10.98 assists per match,  Misa had three matches where she registered 50 plus assists, her season high at 59.  Cinthia Silva a Sophomore Outside Hitter received second team All-American status.  Silva averaged 3.87 kills per match and recorded a season high 28 kills against Blinn College.  Misa and Cinthia helped lead the Bruins to a perfect 10-0 SWAC record and a 44-2 overall record.  Salt Lake CC finished the season ranked number one in the nation and placed 3rd at the national tournament. 

Shay Goulding Named the West Region AVCA Coach of the Year

SALT LAKE CITY (December 3, 2007)-  Salt Lake CC is announces that Head Volleyball Coach Shay Goulding has been named the AVCA Two-Year Colleges West Region Coach on the Year.  This is her second AVCA Coach of the Year award winning in 2004 as well.  In her five years at Salt Lake Coach Goulding has led her team to 4 out of 5 national tournament berths.

Salt Lake CC finished with a 44-2 record and placed third at the National Tournament. During the season Salt Lake went on a 29 game win streak their only two losses coming from eventual National Champs Western Nebraska.  Misa Hanakova and Cinthis Silva were named to the NJCAA All-Tournament team. Misa was named SWAC player of the year.  Cinthia Silva, Morgan Lloyd and Misa Hanakova were all first team All Region.  Talita Santos and Sam Richard were both selected to the second team All Region.

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (November 17, 2007)- Salt Lake CC (44-2) takes Frank Phillips College down in four (30-27, 24-30, 30-26, 30-25).   Frank Phillips did not make it easy compiling 16.5 blocks and seven service aces.  In the first two games Salt Lake CC committed 23 errors but regrouped and cut the errors in half committing only 13 the next two games. Sam Richard had a double double for Salt Lake with 15 kills and 18 digs.

It was a total team effort for Salt Lake with Talita Santos contributing 15 kills, Cinthia Silva 16 kills and Tela Burnett finishing with 11 kills.  Libero Morgan Lloyd continued her strong defense with 22 digs.  Salt Lake put down 68 kills to Frank Philips 50 and held Phillips to a .115 hitting percentage.

Salt Lake CC finishes the season with a 44-2 record going undefeated in SWAC play.

Salt Lake CC falls to Western Nebraska in Five

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (November 16, 2007)- No. 1 seed Salt Lake CC (43-2) lost a five game marathon (30-19, 29-31, 30-21, 24-30, 12-15) to Western Nebraska (53-2).  Salt Lake came out hot in the first game winning 30-19 committing no errors and holding Western Nebraska to a .081 hitting percentage.  However Western Nebraska rallied on Salt Lake�s 13 errors and took game two 31-29.  The next three games Salt Lake could not over come Western�s relentless attack and stout defense. 

Salt Lake had four players in double figures Talita Santos (16 kills, 8 blocks), Cinthia Silva (24 kills, 15 digs), Tela Burnett (10 kills, 4 blocks) and Sam Richards (12 kills, 19 digs).  Misa Hanakova did her part with 59 assists and 10 digs.  Morgan Lloyd set a career high with 25 digs.  The team combined for 15 blocks and 8 service aces on the night.

Western Nebraska�s two hitters Aida Bauza and Jennifer Eichler combined for 43 kills and Western�s defense combined for 90 digs against Salt Lake.

Salt Lake CC (43-2) will now play Frank Phillips College (42-2) at 4:00 pm MST

No. 1 Salt Lake CC advances to Final Four

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (November 15, 2007)- No. 1 Salt Lake CC Bruins (43-1) continued their dominance beating Blinn College Buccaneers (33-4) in four games 30-20, 30-22, 29-31 and 30-21.  The Buccaneers would not go easy for the Bruins leading in the third and the fourth games.  However sophomores Misa Hanakova and Cintha Silva would not let the Bruins fall.  Silva had a new season high 28 kills and Hanakova finished with 59 assists.

Three other Bruins finished with double figure kills Talita Santos (14), Sam Richard (11), and Tela Burnett (11).  Salt Lake as a team had new team highs in kills (69), digs (67) and assists (65). 

No. 1 Salt Lake CC plays Western Nebraska tomorrow at 6:00 p.m (MST).  Western Nebraska was the only team to give Salt Lake a loss during the season.

No. 1 Salt Lake CC makes easy work of Northwest Shoals winning in three.

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (November 15, 2007)- No. 1 Salt Lake CC Bruins (42-1) roars into the national tournament beating up on Northwest Shoals Patriots (35-10) in three games.  Salt Lake dominated all three games 30-19, 30-24 and 30-10.  It was a total team effort for the Bruins with Cinthia Silva (11 kills, 3 aces), Talita Santos (8 kills), Sam Richards (8 kills, 3 blocks) and Tela Burnett (9 kills).  Salt Lake as a team had a hitting percentage of .400 and connected on 11 aces to put away Northwest Shoals.

No. 1 Salt Lake will play the winner of CSI/Blinn at 7:30 MST.

NJCAA Releases 2007 National Tournament Seeding

SALT LAKE CITY (November 7, 2007)- The NJCAA released the 2007 Volleyball National Tournament seeding today and No.1 Salt Lake CC (41-1) will face off against No. 16 Northwest Shoals CC (35-9) (Alabama Community College Conference) Thursday, November 15 at 2 pm.  If Salt Lake CC wins they play the winner of CSI or Blinn Thursday, November 15 at 8:30 pm.

No. 1 Salt Lake CC finished the season on a win streak of 27 game win streak.  Salt Lake CC�s leaders are Cinthia Silva (3.49 kpg), Misa Hanakova (10.92 assists pg) and Morgan Lloyd (4.02 dpg).   Salt Lake CC led the SWAC in Assist (14.05), Hitting Percentage (.293), Kills (14.57) and Aces (2.97).  This is the second year that Salt Lake CC is at the national tournament in 2006 they finished tied for 11th.

The Northwest Shoals Patriots finished the season with a 35-9 record winning the ACCC tournament to advance to nationals.  Leading the Patriots is Jordan Kent (5.7 kpg), Lana Pigg (12.7 assists pg) and Katie Martin (5.6 dpg).  As a team the Patriots led the conference in kills (15.2), Assists (14.8) and Digs (22.3).  Angie Byrd coaches Northwest Shoals.

Misa Hanakova named Player of the Year for the SWAC

SALT LAKE CITY (November 7, 2007)- The Scenic West Athletic Conference released the 2007 Volleyball All-Region selections. Misa Hanakova was rewarded for her outstanding play receiving the most votes and being named Player of the Year.  Salt Lake had two first team selections, Cinthia Silva and Morgan Lloyd. Salt Lake had two-second team selections, Talita Santos and Sam Richards and three honorable mentions, Tela Burnett, Megan Metcalf, Hailey Barner.  Salt Lake CC head coach Shay Goulding was named Coach of the Year, this is her second time receiving the honor in as many years

No. 1 Salt Lake CC wins the District A Championship

SALT LAKE CITY (November 3, 2007)- No. 1 Salt Lake CC beats AZ Western in four games to win the District A Championship and a spot in the National Tournament for the third straight year.  Cinthia Silva finished the night in double figure kills (27) and digs (11) to push Salt Lake past a relentless AZ Western team.  Misa Hanakova did her part with a new season high 54 assists and Morgan Lloyd continued to play well with 15 digs and four aces. Sam Richard, Talita Santos and Megan Metcalf all help push the Salt Lake pass Arizona with double figure kills.

In game one Salt Lake got off to a slow start committing 12 errors to AZ Westerns two.  Cithia Silva kept Salt Lake in the match with 11 kills of her own to Arizona�s 11.  With the match tied at 30-30, Silva finished Arizona off with two kills.   In game two Salt Lake cut down the errors but could not over come Arizona�s 21 kills.   In game three Salt Lake cruised to a 30-22 win, Morgan Lloyd had three service Aces to led Salt Lake.  Game four was back and fourth till Cinthia Silva took control and Salt Lake went on a 10-1 run. Salt Lake finished the night with 64 kills, 59 assists and 57 digs.

Arizona Western had three players in double figure kills, Marluci Toazzi (16), Ana Bauer (12) and Patty Paniagua (13).   As a team Arizona had 11 blocks and 53 kills.

SALT LAKE CITY (October 29, 2007)- No. 1 Salt Lake CC (40-1) continued their winning ways beating Snow College tonight in three games 30-14, 30-25 and 30-20.  Leading Salt Lake was Samantha Richard with 11 kills and 14 digs and Cinithia Silva added 12 kills.  This is Salt Lake CC 26th straight win and makes them Region B Champions for the second straight year.

No. 1 Salt Lake CC (40-1) will be in action again Saturday, November 3rd at 7 p.m. against Arizona Western CC (23-7).

No. 1 Salt Lake CC Finishes off Conference Schedule Undefeated.

PRICE, Utah (October 27, 2007)- No. 1 Salt Lake CC (39-1, 10-0 SWAC) continued conference dominance beating College of Eastern Utah (5-14, 1-9 SWAC) in three 30-24, 30-11 and 30-19.  This is No. 1 Salt Lake CC 25th consecutive win.  Samantha Richard, Talita Santos and Camilla Phillips all had six kills; Morgan Lloyd continued her impressive play with 9 digs for Salt Lake CC.

� We played a great game and we are excited to sweep conference play and look forward to the playoffs,� said head coach Shay Goulding.

Friday night in Rangely Colorado, No. 1 Salt Lake CC won their 24th in a row beating Colorado Northwestern CC (0-17, 0-9 SWAC) in three 30-14, 30-4 and 30-22.  Camilla Phillips had seven digs; five aces and eight kills.  Morgan Lloyd added 18 digs and four aces.

No. 1 Salt Lake CC will host the Region B Championship game on October 29th at 7 p.m. against Snow College.

SALT LAKE CITY (October 20, 2007)- No. 1 Salt Lake CC (37-1, 8-0 SWAC) rolls over No. 8 College of Southern Idaho (32-9, 6-2 SWAC) in three games 30-22, 30-19 and 30-27.   Samantha Richard had 13 kills, 10 digs and Cinthia Silva added 11 kills.  Misa Hankaova finished the night with 38 assists and Salt Lake, as a team, had 10 aces.  Alyssa Wistrick led College of Southern Idaho with 13 kills.

No. 1 Salt Lake CC heads on the road for their final conference matches, first up for Salt Lake CC is Colorado Northwestern College on October 26th and finishes at College of Eastern Utah on October 27th.

No. 1 Salt Lake CC beats North Idaho in Three Straight

SALT LAKE CITY (October 19, 2007)- No. 1 Salt Lake CC (36-1, 7-0 SWAC) cruised to there22nd consecutive win by beating North Idaho CC (18-8, 5-3 SWAC) in three straight 30-17, 30-27 and 30-23.  No.1 Salt Lake CC had a new season high in kills with 53 to North Idaho�s 27.  Samantha Richard continued her streak of double figure kills with 13 to lead the Bruins.

Talita Santos and Megan Metcalf helped the Bruins offensive attack with 10 kills each and Misa Hanakova continues to dish out the assists with 43.  North Idaho CC had 11 team blocks on the night, led by Adrella Dunn with six kills, five blocks and Amanda Misa with seven kills, four blocks.

No. 1 Salt Lake CC is back in action for their final home conference match October 20th at 3 pm against No. 8 College of Southern Idaho.

Salt Lake Grabs #1 Ranking
SALT LAKE CITY (October 17, 2007)- The NJCAA released new Division I rankings for the 2007 season and the Salt Lake CC Bruins have jumped one spot to No. 1, this is the first time a Salt Lake CC team has been ranked No. 1 nationally.

Salt Lake CC is on a 21 game win streak, their last loss was to No. 5 Western Nebraska.  Salt Lake is led by Misa Hanakova who currently ranks in the top 25 in the nation in hitting efficiency (47.37) and assists (10.59).  As a team Salt Lake leads the SWAC conference in hitting percentage (.297), assists (13.52), kills (14.62) and service aces (3.01).

No. 1 Salt Lake CC takes on North Idaho CC October 19th at 7pm and No. 8 College of Southern Idaho October 20th at 3 pm.

SALT LAKE CITY (October 11, 2007)- No. 2 Salt Lake CC Bruins (35-1, 6-0 SWAC) cruised to their 21st consecutive win beating Snow College Badgers (8-12, 1-4 SWAC) 30-24, 30-23 and 30-21.  Salt Lake CC had three players in double figure kills Talita Santos (11), Samantha Richards (14) and Cinthia Silva (11).  As a team Salt Lake had a season high 52 kills to Snow�s 25.

Samantha Richard sets a new career high in kills with 14, Misa Hanakova handed out 37 assist, Morgan Lloyd led with 12 digs and Megan Metcalf contributed 8 kills.  Britnee Clifford led Snow with six kills and four digs.

Salt Lake has their final two home conference matches October 19 at 7 pm and 20th at 3 pm against North Idaho and College of Southern Idaho.

THE BRUINS KEEP THE STREAK ALIVE AT 20 MATCHES

SALT LAKE CITY (October 6, 2007)- No. 2 Salt Lake CC Bruins jumped to a 9-0 run to begin the first game on their way to defeating the CNCC Spartans in three (30-10, 30-14, 30-18).  The Bruins (34-1, 5-0 SWAC) were led by Camilla Phillips with 11 kills.  Amanda Carter also had 7 kills and Morgan Lloyd contributed 17 digs for the Bruins.

The Spartans were led by Katelyn Randolph with nine digs and three kills.

The Bruins on a 20 match win streak look to continue that streak on Thursday October 11th at 7 p.m. against Snow College Badgers.

Salt Lake CC Volleyball Wins Again, Defeats Eastern Utah at Home 3-0

SALT LAKE CITY (October 5, 2007) � It was another quick match for the No. 2 ranked Salt Lake CC Bruins Friday night in Bruin Arena as the team cruised to a 3-0 victory over SWAC opponent Eastern Utah in just an hour and 13 minutes. Head Coach Shay Goulding improved Salt Lake�s record to 33-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play while playing every Bruin in the 30-20, 30-11, 30-19 win.

Salt Lake registered 44 kills on the night as opposed to CEU�s 15. Tela Burnett topped SLCC with nine kills and Misa Hanakova led the hosts with 20 assists. Freshman Mykelle Webster added 10 assists on the night. All but two Bruins tallied at least one kill. Eastern Utah�s leading player was Kikki Griffiths with six kills.

The Bruins will be at home again on Saturday, October 6 to take on Colorado Northwestern CC at 3 p.m.

Bruins Defeat North Idaho, Improve to 3-0 in SWAC Play

COEUR D�ALENE, Idaho (September 29, 2007) � The No. 2 ranked Salt Lake CC Bruins finished up the team�s trip to Idaho with a third straight conference win at North Idaho College Saturday afternoon. Salt Lake had four players in double-figure kills, led by Cinthia Silva with 11, in the four-game defeat of the NIC Cardinals (30-18, 26-30, 30-25, 30-20).

�Overall it was a great match by all of our players, everyone played and everyone contributed. I am especially proud of our right side and middle, they hit for minimal errors, and our set distribution continues to be top-notch. We are still taking one game at a time and still have goals ahead of us,� said head coach Shay Goulding.

The Bruins claimed their 18th consecutive match off a 34 assist effort by Misa Hanakova and 10 kill efforts by Tela Burnett, Samantha Richard and Talita Santos. Santos added three block assists and Morgan Lloyd recorded 11 digs. Megan Metcalf registered seven kills and no errors off the bench.

Salt Lake (32-1, 3-0 SWAC) will return to Bruin Arena for a five-match home conference stand beginning October 5 versus the College of Eastern Utah at 7 p.m. The team will follow with a home match on October 6 against Colorado Northwestern CC at 3 p.m.

Salt Lake CC Volleyball Defeats No. 10 Southern Idaho
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (September 27, 2007) - Talita Santos registered 10 kills with no errors to lead the No. 2 Salt Lake Community College Bruins in a domination of the No. 10 College of Southern Idaho Eagles Thursday night in conference play. The Bruins took out the Eagles in three games, 30-28, 30-14 and 30-28, extending the team's win streak to 17 matches.

"It was nice to win on CSI's court and win in three. Again, we had great passing and setting, allowing our offense to run successfully," said head coach Shay Goulding.

Also on the board for Salt Lake was Cinthia Silva with 14 kills, Samantha Richard with 13 kills and 13 digs and Morgan Lloyd with 11 digs. Misa Hanakova added 47 assists. As a team, the Bruins recorded eight aces in the victory.

Salt Lake (31-1, 2-0 SWAC) will head north for the team's next match to Coeur D'Alene, Idaho for a conference match against the North Idaho College Cardinals Saturday, September 29 at noon.

Salt Lake CC Volleyball Defeats Snow College in First Conference Match

EPHRAIM, Utah (September 22, 2007) � The second ranked Salt Lake CC Bruins opened up Scenic West Athletic Conference play at Snow College Saturday afternoon and defeated the Badgers in three games 30-23, 30-26, and 30-27. Salt Lake improves to 30-1 on the season and 1-0 in the SWAC.

Middle blocker Talita Santos recorded a season-high 16 kills while setter Misa Hanakova registered her own season-high 48 assists. Santos leads the conference in hitting percentage (.417). �Talita has played incredible our last several matches. She�s has been nearly flawless. Our passing and setting has been terrific as well,� said head coach Shay Goulding.

Salt Lake will be on the road again next week for more SWAC action at the College of Southern Idaho on September 27.



Salt Lake CC Volleyball Wins 15th Consecutive Match

SALT LAKE CITY (September 20, 2007) � No. 2 ranked Salt Lake CC hosted the Central Wyoming Rustlers Thursday night and won 30-28, 30-20, and 30-23, improving to 29-1 on the season. The Bruins won the team�s 29th consecutive game and increased their win streak to 15 matches.

Talita Santos led Salt Lake with a season-high 14 kills (14-of-17) while Misa Hanakova registered 36 assists, seven kills, and seven digs for the Bruins. Cinthia Silva added 11 kills and eight digs in the win. Salt Lake, as a team, finished the night with 51 kills and 10 service aces

The No. 2 ranked Bruins will be on the road Saturday, September 22 at Snow College to begin the 2007 Scenic West Athletic Conference schedule.

Salt Lake CC Volleyball Goes Undefeated in Arizona
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (September 15, 2007) � The Salt Lake CC Bruins remained undefeated in the final day of the Scottsdale Classic Tournament Saturday. The No. 2 ranked Bruins cruised to wins over Chandler-Gilbert, Glendale CC, and Arizona Western to improve to 28-1 on the season.

Bruins head coach Shay Goulding was very pleased with how well her team played together. �Our passing has been a significant factor in our offensive success and the combination of setting and hitting has been just as crucial. We are well aware that we haven�t achieved our potential yet, but we�re very excited for what lies ahead.�

Salt Lake picked up win number one of the day against Chandler-Gilbert 30-14 and 30-28. Misa Hanakova registered 16 assists and Talita Santos had seven kills. Freshman Camilla Phillips led the Bruins with four service aces.

Win number two for Salt Lake was over Glendale CC 30-19 and 30-22. Sam Richard topped the Bruins with 11 digs and seven kills. Morgan Lloyd added seven digs in the win.

The Bruins matched the team�s early season win streak of 14 after defeating Arizona Western 30-24 and 30-22 in the final match of the tournament. Richard recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs. Cinthia Silva had 12 kills, Hanakova had 29 assists, and Lloyd pulled out 10 digs.

No. 2 Salt Lake returns home September 20 for a 7 p.m. match against Central Wyoming in Bruin Arena.

Bruin Volleyball Wins Four More, Defeats No. 3 Iowa Western
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (September 14, 2007) � The No. 2 ranked Salt Lake CC Bruins made even more headway in the team�s record setting season Friday by defeating the No. 3 Iowa Western CC Reivers en route to a 25-1 overall record. The Bruins also defeated Eastern Arizona, Phoenix College, and Long Beach City College on day one of the Scottsdale Classic Tournament.

�We had very few errors and our passing was incredible against Iowa Western. Our offense was riding on the spectacular passing of Morgan Lloyd. I was very thrilled with the win. We really played fantastic volleyball tonight,� said head coach Shay Goulding.

Salt Lake�s first match of the day was a win against Eastern Arizona 30-16 and 30-25. Sam Richard led the team with nine kills and 11 digs. Cinthia Silva followed with seven kills and six digs. Morgan Lloyd had seven digs in the match.

The Bruins won match two against Phoenix College 30-24 and 30-28. Cinthia Silva topped Salt Lake with eight kills. Talita Santos and Sam Richard both had seven kills. Richard also had 10 digs and Santos had three block assists.

In match number three, Salt Lake defeated Long Beach City College 30-28 and 30-27. Lloyd led the team again with 10 digs. Santos had eight kills and Richard registered seven digs and six kills.

The final match was the victory over No. 3 Iowa Western. The Bruins top hitters were Silva with 11 kills and Santos with nine kills. The two combined for no errors in the match. Misa Hanakova also recorded 31 assists in the win.

Salt Lake will take part in more tournament action Saturday before returning for a home match on September 20 versus Central Wyoming.

Salt Lake CC Volleyball Ranked No. 2 in the Nation
SALT LAKE CITY (September 13, 2007) - The NJCAA released the first Division I Volleyball poll of the 2007 regular season and the Salt Lake Community College Bruins received a No. 2 ranking, the highest in Bruin volleyball history.
   
Salt Lake is 21-1 with wins over ranked opponents Western Nebraska and the College of Southern Idaho. The only loss for Salt Lake was to top-ranked Western Nebraska in the championship match of the Salt Lake Invitational Tournament. The Bruins are led by Cinthia Silva (3.4 kills per game), Talita Santos (1.0 blocks per game), Michaela Hanakova (10.0 assists per game), and Morgan Lloyd (4.3 digs per game, .72 aces per game).
   
The Bruins are second only to 2006 national runner-up Western Nebraska and are ranked higher than No. 3 defending national champion Iowa Western Community College.  

No. 2 Salt Lake will be in action this weekend in Scottsdale, Ariz. for another preseason tournament at the Scottsdale Community College Classic September 13-15.

Volleyball Wins First Home Match of the Season
SALT LAKE CITY (September 11, 2007) � In the team�s first home match of the 2007 season, the fourth ranked Salt Lake CC Bruins routed the Western Wyoming Mustangs 30-21, 30-22, and 30-28 Tuesday night in Bruin Arena. The three game match lasted one hour and 23 minutes.

The Bruins tallied 51 kills on the night led by freshman Camilla Phillips with a season-high 11 kills (11-for-21). Tela Burnett, Sam Richard, and Talita Santos recorded nine kills each. Misa Hanakova finished with 38 assists and nine digs while Morgan Lloyd had 10 digs. The Bruins were without outside hitter Cinthia Silva. The SWAC�s no. two leader in kills was sidelined with a pulled groin.

Western Wyoming�s Jenika Bird and Paige Brog had six kills and Jenna Mackey led the visitors with 10 digs.

Salt Lake, now 21-1, will be in action again this weekend in Scottsdale, AZ. for another preseason tournament at the Scottsdale Community College Classic September 13-15.

Bruins Win Sterling Invitational Las Vegas Tournament, Now 20-1 on the Season

LAS VEGAS (September 8, 2007) �  The Salt Lake CC Bruins captured the team's second preseason tournament championship of the 2007 season on Saturday at the Sterling Invitational Las Vegas Tournament. Salt Lake went a perfect 6-0 in the tourney, improving to 20-1 on the year after defeating conference foe Snow College in the semifinals and Mt. Hood College in the championship match.

"Everyone played, so winning the tournament was a great team effort. I was particularly pleased with the connection between our setter, Misa Hanakova, and our middle hitters, Tela Burnett and Talita Santos. We did a much better job running a fast middle this weekend," said head coach Shay Goulding. Hanakova was named the Tournament MVP while Santos was named to the All-Tournament team.

In the semifinal match against Snow, Salt Lake won in three 30-18, 30-18, and 30-23. Hanakova tallied 23 assists while Las Vegas native Sam Richard recorded 10 kills and six aces. Morgan Lloyd added 15 digs and Cinthia Silva had eight kills.

The Bruins also won in three games in the championship contest versus Mt. Hood College, 30-27, 30-17, and 30-23. Hanakova led the Bruins again with 25 assists, five kills, and three aces. Richard had 10 kills and Lloyd contributed 13 digs and four aces. Tela Burnett and Talita Santos had eight and seven kills respectively.

The fourth ranked Bruins will return to Salt Lake City for the team's first home match of the season Tuesday, September 11 against Western Wyoming at 6 p.m. in Bruin Arena.

Bruins Continue Preseason Success, 4-0 in Day One of Vegas Tourney
LAS VEGAS (September 7, 2007) � On the first day in pool play of the 2007 Sterling Invitational Las Vegas Tournament, the fourth ranked Salt Lake CC Bruins went 4-0 and improved to 18-1 on the season. Salt Lake defeated Fullerton College, Mt. Hood College, Central Wyoming College, and Golden West College.

�We showed a lot of maturity in pulling out some tough games today. I was excited to give the freshmen a lot of opportunities to play and I thought they did very well. We�re continually developing as a team and I�m excited where we�re going,� commented head coach Shay Goulding.

Morgan Lloyd led the Bruins with 10 digs and two aces in game one versus Fullerton. Sam Richard added eight kills as Salt Lake won 30-24 and 30-23. In game two against Mt. Hood, the Bruins won 30-20 and 30-24. Talita Santos tallied six kills and Richard had 12 digs and two aces.

Salt Lake won in three games against Central Wyoming, 30-22, 28-30, and 15-5. Santos registered 12 kills and six block assists. Brittany Wilcox pulled out 9 digs and had eight kills. The final match of the day also went to three games with the Bruins defeating Golden West 23-30, 30-26, and 15-12. Lloyd recorded 15 digs while Richard totaled 12 digs, six kills, and two aces. Cinthia Silva contributed nine kills in the win.

Bruins Win Streak Ends in Tournament Championship
SALT LAKE CITY (September 1, 2007) � The Salt Lake Community College Bruins' undefeated streak ended today in the championship match of the team's own Salt Lake Invitational Tournament.

The fourth ranked Bruins, now 14-1, broke fifth ranked Western Nebraska's own undefeated streak and later downed the North Idaho Cardinals to reach the championship contest. Western Nebraska then returned the favor, defeating Salt Lake to win the tournament.

Receiving all-tournament recognition for the Bruins was sophomore setter Misa Hanakova and sophomore hitter Cinthia Silva. Hanakova averaged over 26 assists a match on the weekend and Silva layed down over seven kills a match in the tournament.

Salt Lake will travel to Nevada September 7 and 8 to play in the Bruins' hosted 2007 Sterling Invitational Las Vegas Tournament.

Salt Lake CC Volleyball Ranked 4th in the Country
SALT LAKE CITY (August 31, 2007) � The NJCAA released the 2007 volleyball preseason poll this week and the Salt Lake Community College Bruins received a number four ranking.
  
Salt Lake is currently 12-0, marking the best start in team history by far. The Bruin volleyball program began in 1996 and has had four top 12 national tournament finishes, including two second place finishes in 1999 and 2004.
  
Simply stated, head coach Shay Goulding says, �It feels good. It feels real good.� The Bruins began the 2006 season ranked sixth in the nation and finished the year placing 11th in the national tournament.

Salt Lake CC Volleyball Wins Eighth Straight Match
ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. (August 28, 2007) - The Salt Lake CC Bruins won their eighth straight match of the early season on the road Tuesday night at non-conference opponent Western Wyoming. Salt Lake finished in three games (30-18, 30-19, 30-22) in the team's second defeat of the Mustangs this season.

Michaela Hanakova tallied 33 assists, eight digs, and four aces in the contest while Sam Richard had a team-high 10 kills with 10 digs. Morgan Lloyd pulled out 20 digs and Cinthia Silva recorded 12 digs, seven kills, and three aces.

The Bruins (8-0) will play their first home matches of the season this weekend, August 31 and September 1, in the Salt Lake Tournament. The two-day invitational will run from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. both Friday and Saturday.

Bruins Go 7-0, Win Outback Tournament
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (August 25, 2007) �  The Salt Lake CC Bruins improved to 7-0 on the season today as the team completed play in the CSI Outback Invitational Tournament. Salt Lake played captor to Casper College, Western Wyoming CC, and conference opponent CSI on Saturday.

Bruins head coach Shay Goulding was pleased with her team�s effort. �Every player got on the court multiple times this weekend and our sophomores came out big. It was a great effort by everyone.�

Salt Lake defeated Casper College 30-22 and 30-14. Cinthia Silva and Sam Richard recorded seven and six kills respectively. Morgan Lloyd added 11 digs in the first win of the day. Lloyd pulled out 13 digs in the Bruins match against Western Wyoming, leading her team to another win in two, 30-10 and 30-18.

Salt Lake ended the tournament by outdoing the host, CSI, in two games, 31-29 and 30-28. Silva led the Bruins with 13 kills and 13 digs while Lloyd finished with nine digs. Hailey Barner layed down six kills in the contest.

The Bruins will travel to Western Wyoming on Tuesday, August 28, to face the Mustangs once again in non-conference action. The women will then return home to host their own tournament on August 31 and September 1.

Volleyball Starts Season Off 4-0 at CSI Outback Tournament
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (August 24, 2007) � Opening the 2007 season at the CSI Outback Tournament, the Salt Lake CC Bruins won all four matches on Friday. Salt Lake downed Scenic West Athletic Conference foes Colorado Northwestern, North Idaho, and Snow, while defeating non-conference opponent Eastern Oregon in day one of the two-day invitational tournament.

�We had outstanding passing by Morgan (Lloyd) and Cinthia (Silva) and our offense was ran well. Morgan had 32 digs on the day and we had exceptional play from freshman Hailey Barner,� commented head coach Shay Goulding.

The Bruins defeated Colorado Northwestern in two games, 30-14 and 30-13. The women then matched up against Eastern Oregon for two games, winning 30-27 and 30-18. In the second match, Michaela Hanakova tallied 34 assists and Sam Richards registered 11 kills and three digs.

Hanakova produced 35 assists in her team�s third match of the day and the Bruins won in three versus North Idaho, 30-23, 26-30, and 15-13. Lloyd added 12 digs and Silva had 14 digs and seven kills. Sam Richards also had 14 digs with nine kills and Barner put down nine kills.

In the final match of the day, Salt Lake topped Snow in two games, 30-28 and 30-23. Lloyd had 10 digs and Silva totaled 10 kills.

The Bruins will play again on Saturday at the CSI Outback Invitational before traveling to Western Wyoming for a non-conference contest on Tuesday, August 28, at 6 p.m. in Rock Springs.

2007 Volleyball Roster Announced
Salt Lake City (August 6, 2007) � Salt Lake Community College head volleyball coach Shay Goulding has released the team roster for the 2007 season.

The Bruins return six starters from last year�s 11th place national tournament team. Michaela Hanakova, a sophomore native of the Czech Republic, comes back to lead Salt Lake in the setter position. She was a Second Team All-Region selection as a freshman.

Talita Santos and Cinthia Silva both return as All-Region picks from Brazil. Santos led the team with 28 blocks last season and Silva topped Salt Lake with 3.55 kills per game in 2006.

Sam Richard rounds out Goulding�s top four for 2007. The outside hitter/setter from Las Vegas had 70 service aces last season, ranking second in the Scenic West Athletic Conference.

Newcomers to the program include four Utah natives and one Idahoan. Brittany Wilcox, a 6-2 middle blocker/outside hitter from Preston, Idaho, and Hailey Barner, a 6-0 opposite from Pleasant Grove, Utah, are Goulding�s top incoming freshmen.

Hillman Hired as Full-Time Volleyball Assistant/Promotions Coordinator
Salt Lake City (July 1, 2007) � Salt Lake Community College Athletics has announced the hiring of Joe Hillman as full-time assistant volleyball coach and promotions coordinator.

�Joe brings a lot of volleyball knowledge to our volleyball program. He is also very enthusiastic and has a high standard of expectations,� said Salt Lake CC Athletic Director Norma Carr.

An addition to the volleyball coaching staff last season, Hillman will begin his second season working under head coach Shay Goulding and his first as promotions coordinator. Prior to joining Salt Lake CC, Hillman was a member of the BYU National Championship Team in 2004 and the Cougars� National Runner-Up Team in 2003. Hillman is a native of Las Vegas, Nev.

Bruins Sign Three Preps for Next Season
Salt Lake City (May 17, 2007) - Salt Lake Community College head volleyball coach Shay Goulding has announced the signing of three high school players to play for the Bruins next season.

Utah preps joining Salt Lake�s squad are former Pleasant Grove High School star Hailey Barner and Viewmont HS product Amanda Carter. The 6-1 Barner plays right side and the 5-10 Carter is an outside hitter.

From Idaho, Brittany Wilcox has committed to the Bruins to play middle blocker, opposite and outside hitter. She is 6-2 from Preston High School.

The Bruins ended the 2006 season with an 11th place finish at the NJCAA National Tournament.
