Kelsey Campbell#1 Kelsey Campbell

 5’8” ~ Kaysville, UT ~ Libero ~ Freshman
“We were thrilled when Kelsey decided to come to SLCC.  Her presence on the court is not typical of a first-year libero.  Nothing seems to rattle her cage!  She always has her game face on and looks to be one of our top back row defenders.  I am excited to watch Kelsey’s progress this season.” –Coach Dulaney

High School: Davis where she was a varsity athlete in volleyball, basketball and track. She won the Outstanding Female Athlete Award at Davis High School in 2008, and she was a 5A Senior All-Star in volleyball.

Personal:  Daughter of Alan and Jan Campbell. Both her mother and father played basketball at Weber State. Some of her hobbies include basketball and traveling when she is not busy with volleyball.

Personal Motto: “Don’t worry about the things that you have no control over.”
Why SLCC?: “SLCC is close to home, and it has a great volleyball program.”

Amanda Carter#2  Amanda Carter

 5’10 ~ Centerville, UT ~ OH ~ Sophomore
“We are happy that we have Amanda coming back. Amanda plays with a winning attitude and strives to be the best in every drill. Her passion to get every ball will help her be a big part of the team this year. Amanda is a smart player and will help us be at the top this year.” –Coach Hillman  

High School: Viewmont High where she was selected as a 5A All-Region player.

Personal:  Daughter of Lee and Jeanne Carter.  Amanda wants to either work for a business or as an engineer. She was a member of the Bruin National Team that finished 3rd last year and going to Nationals has been her proudest moment as a Bruin. 
Freshman: She played in 39 games as a freshman where she had 7 service aces and 42 kills to highlight her first season.

Personal Motto: “Don’t worry about the things that you have no control over.”
Personal Advice for the freshman: “Stay positive, have fun and try hard.”

Nikki Sorenson#3 Nikki Sorenson

5’8 ~ Bountiful, UT ~ Libero ~ Sophomore
“Nikki comes to us from a very good team at Arizona Western College. They were ranked in the top 20 last year. She was the starting libero at AWC but chose to transfer to SLCC last year between semesters. Nikki comes with the experience of playing at this level and the drive to be great. She is also a natural vocal leader which is perfect for her position in the back row.”  – Coach Hillman

High School: Bountiful High

Transferred from: Arizona Western College

Personal: Daughter of Mike and Bonnie Sorenson. Nicole is a major in Health and Nutrition where she hopes to have a career in the health field. Her cousin, Sandra Sorenson played volleyball at the College of Eastern Utah.  She likes to go hiking, camping and being with family and friends when she is not playing volleyball.

Freshman: She was named to Arizona Western Region conference team.

Personal Motto: “No pain, no gain”
Why SLCC?: “This program helps push you to work your hardest.”

Hailey Barner#4 Hailey Barner

 6’0 ~ Pleasant Grove, UT ~ Opposite ~ Sophomore
“Hailey comes back to us with the most experience out of all the returners from last year’s team. We are excited for Hailey as we expect her to be consistent with her big blocks from her fast arms. As quiet as Hailey is, she does a good job communicating with the rest of the team when they need a big side out. She can be one of the best side out players in the conference and the country.” - Coach Hillman

High School: Barner attended Pleasant Grove High School where she won a state championship her junior year.

Freshmen: Hailey played in 61 games where she had 99 kills. She also had a 279 attacking percentage, 11 service aces and she was named to the Honorable Mention All-Region team.

Personal Motto: “Hugs not drugs.”
Personal Advice for freshman: “Work hard because it will go fast.”

Kim Gourley#5 Kim Gourley

5’6”  ~ Tayorsville, UT ~ Libero ~ Freshman
“Taking the past seven months off from volleyball due to an injury, Kim brings a passion and desire to compete into the gym.  She definitely takes charge in the backrow and lets nothing hit the ground.  She is relentless on defense and that is what you want from the libero.” –Coach Dulaney

High School:  While at Taylorsville High, Gourley lettered in volleyball and basketball where she was on the All-Region team.

Personal: Daughter of Robert and Sharon Gourley. Gourley wants to become a professional photographer. One of her biggest accomplishments was when she competed in the Junior Olympics with her club team, where they made it to the top 10 in 2006. When not playing volleyball or studying, she likes to play the piano and take pictures.

Personal Motto: “Nothin’, what’s the motto with you.”
Why SLCC?: “I wanted to play volleyball and there is a great photography program at SLCC in which students can transfer to the Brooks Institute.”

Tamara da Silva#7 Tamara da Silva

5’10” ~ Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil ~ OH ~ Sophomore
“Tamara da Silva (T) led Westrn Wyoming CC in aces, passing, hitting and kills efficiencies.  She will bring her first-year experiences to the floor as she started every game for the Mustangs.  I expect her to be a vocal leader on the floor and to play with confidence.  Her ball control is great and I would like to see her take charge on the court which I am sure she will as she gets more comfortable with her new surroundings.” –Coach Dulaney

High School: Fundacao Evangelica De Navo Hamburgo

Transferred from: Western Wyoming Community College

Freshman:Tamara made the All-Conference team for Region Nine.

Personal: Daughter of Jorge Luiz Ferreira and Carmen Suzana Bittencourt da Silva. She is majoring in Public Relations and her goal is to graduate and move back to Brazil. Tamara says her biggest accomplishment thus far has been learning English. When she is not playing, she enjoys hanging out with her friends.

Personal Motto: “I want, I can and I will get it.”
Advice for the freshman: “Do what the sophomores say to do.”

Jenika Bird#8 Jenika Bird

5’10” ~ Green River, Wyoming ~ MB ~ Sophomore
“Jenika Bird’s block and ability to hit a variety of sets make her invaluable at the net.  As a freshman she was the #1 blocker in Region IX and the only freshman to make 1st team All-Conference.  I have no doubt Jenika will strive to do the same thing in the SWAC.  I believe her athleticism and work ethic will get her there again.  She is the only Wyoming girl on the roster and is excited to join the Bruin squad.” –Coach Dulaney

High School: Green River

Transferred from: Western Wyoming Community College

Freshman: She made he Region IX All-Region team where she received 1st team All-Conference and 1st team All-Tournament.

Personal: Daughter of John and Connie Bird. Bird is majoring in Nursing, and hopes to become a pediatric or ER nurse. Some of her biggest accomplishments were making the President’s Honor Roll, the Dean’s Honor Roll and Academic All-Conference. Her sister Candace played volleyball at Western Nebraska. When she is not playing, she likes to play the piano, drive motorcycles and four wheelers.

Personal Motto: “Never give up on myself or my team.”
Why SLCC?: “It gives me a better opportunity to move on to a four-year school.”

Thyele Rechatiko#9 Thyele Rechatiko

5’6” ~ Porto Alegre, Brazil ~ Setter ~ Sophomore
“Thyele Rechatiko was the #1 setter for Navarro College before transferring to SLCC.   Thy (pronounced “Chi”) as she is known by her team is a well rounded player.  She can pass and hit as well as set.  How we use her, will be the key component.  She is strong, solid and wants to win.  Thy has her sites set on leading this team to the National tournament again and I believe she can.” –Coach Dulaney

High School: Fundacao Evangelica  De Navo Hamburgo

Transferred from: Navarro College

Freshman: While playing at Navarro College, she made All-Tournament and Region teams. Beating Fort Smith College was her biggest accomplishment with Navarro.

Personal: Daughter of Gilberto A. Timm and Elaine Silveira Rechatiko. One of the things she wants to work on while at SLCC is her ability to jump higher. When she is not playing, she loves to surf the web.

Personal Motto: “Words won’t accomplish anything, only actions will.”
Advice for freshman: “Make a schedule and stick to that schedule.”

Mykelle Webster#10 Mykelle Webster

5’10” ~ Santa Clara, UT ~ Setter ~ Sophomore
“Mykelle has been working hard for the past year and she shows improvement every time she steps on the court. She is a very solid player mentally and physically. Mykelle just does her job and she does not let little things bother her. She knows what it takes to win at the national level and she is a key player to having us return to Nationals.” –Coach Hillman

High School: Snow Canyon where she led her team to a state championship.

Freshman: She played in 37 games as a freshman where she had the second highest amount of assists totaling 184. Mykelle also had 11 service aces for the season.

Personal: Daughter of Paul and Denise Webster. Her biggest accomplishment in volleyball was going 44-2 last season in which the Bruins took 3rd at Nationals. She hopes to get better every day and maintain a positive attitude throughout the season. She likes the SLCC volleyball program because it is organized and has great athletic success in all the sports. Besides volleyball, she likes to read, cook and finish puzzles.

Personal Motto: “Be the change you want to see in the world.”
Advice for the freshman: “Have fun while it lasts and enjoy every moment!”

Jenica Johnson#11 Jenica Johnson

6’1” ~ Kaysville, UT ~ OH/RS ~ Sophomore
“Jenica Johnson (JJ) was the #2 blocker in Region IX last year.  JJ started every game for the Mustangs and knows how important it is to have a solid block.  She has the ability to frustrate outside hitters and cause them to change up their shot selection.  JJ is not just satisfied with putting the ball back into the opponent’s court; she wants to put it down for a point.” –Coach Dulaney

High School: Davis High

Transferred from: Western Wyoming Community College

Personal: Daughter of Terri and Kelly Johnson. Kelly, her father played volleyball at Ricks College. She is majoring in Early Childhood Education and wants to become a kindergarten teacher. Her goal is to receive at least a 3.5 GPA while at SLCC.

Freshman: Her best experience at WWCC was when her team beat Casper.

Personal Motto: “Laughing is a good exercise, it’s like jogging on the inside.”
Why SLCC? : “This program provides more opportunities to transfer to a four-year school.”

Camilla Phillips#12 Camilla Phillips

6’0” ~ South Jordan, UT ~ OH ~ Sophomore
“Camilla comes in as one of our most improved players. For how many years she has played volleyball, it’s amazing how good she is. Camilla hits the ball harder than anyone in the conference, and when she wants a kill she will get the kill. Camilla will be a force in the region and in the country.  She will be our go-to hitter. She will be exciting to watch this year.” – Coach Hillman

High School: Bingham High

Personal: Daughter of Nick and Sela Phillips. She says that playing college volleyball is one of her biggest accomplishments. Camilla wants to improve and be positive every day. When she is not playing, she loves to listen to music and go swimming. She chose SLCC because it is a very organized program.

Personal Motto: “Don’t trade what you want most for what you want at the moment.”
Advice for the freshman: “Have a positive attitude and always have fun.”

Whitney Nilson#13 Whitney Nilson

5’7” ~ Salt Lake City, UT ~ OH ~ Freshman 
“We are fortunate to have Whiteny as a Bruin.  Even though she is listed pretty small in regards to height on the roster, she plays large on the net and in the back row.  She is explosive and can put balls down anywhere along the net.  Her ball control and quick wrist snap makes her a huge threat from anywhere on the court as well.  She will be fun to watch.” - Coach Dulaney

High School: Nilson attended Skyline High School where she was awarded 1st and 2nd team All-State and she was a member of the All-Tournament team.

Personal: Daughter of Mark and Fran Nilson.  She recalls her biggest athletic accomplishment thus far as when her high school team made  it to the state championship game during her senior year. When not studying or playing volleyball, she likes to go shopping.

Personal Motto: “Relax, take it easy.”
Why SLCC?: “Salt Lake has a great volleyball program.”

LaKell Havens#14 LaKell Havens

6’1” ~ St.George, UT ~ MB ~ Freshman
“LaKell is powerful and athletic.  She can hit a ball from antenna to antenna and puts up a mean block.  She always has a smile on her face and gets along with everyone.  LaKell is committed to learning more about the game.  She has unlimited potential and I am excited to see where she can take it.” –Coach Dulaney

High School: Dixie, where she was awarded the Female Athlete of the Year and the Most Valuable Player for the basketball team. Her high school team was the Region Champion for volleyball.

Personal: Daughter of Kent and Melanie Havens. She is majoring in English and hopes to either become an English teacher or be a business owner. One of Lakell’s goals while at SLCC is to get good grades and then maintain those grades. When she isn’t playing volleyball she likes to go bowling, shooting, or play some racquetball.

Personal Motto: “Hit it and quit it.”
Why SLCC?: “It’s a great program!”

Anna Nostrant#15 Anna Nostrant

6’0” ~ St. George, UT ~ MB ~ Freshman
“Anna can put up a strong block.  She is athletic and aggressive.  I expect her to pull out some crucial points, not only with her block, but also with her ability to attack anywhere.  It’s great to have Anna on the squad and I cannot wait to see what she can do.” –Coach Dulaney

High School: Snow Canyon where she helped her team to win two state championships. Anna was also named a senior All-Star, and she made 2nd team All-State.

Personal: Daughter of Lisa and Dave Nostrant. Anna hopes to have a career in athletics when her playing days are over. When not playing or training, Anna likes relax, hang with friends and play basketball.

Personal Motto: “Luck is when preparation meets opportunity.”
Why SLCC?: “The girls are awesome and the program is great.”
