Lady Bruins Fall in Championship Game

PRICE, Utah (March 6, 2010) – The Salt Lake Community College women’s basketball team lost to North Idaho College 86-76 in the championship game of the Region 18 tournament.  Salt Lake fell behind 15 at half time and closed the gap to four points with two minuets left in the game but was unable to mount the comeback.  The Bruins finish the season with a record of 26-6 overall. 

Haley Holmstead finished with 21 points, Dayna Burgess scored 10 points with nine assists and Sheila Adams had 13 points.  Adams and Burgess were both named to the All Tournament team and freshmen Haley Holmstead was named SWAC player of the year.

Adams catches fire leads SLCC Women to Championship Game

PRICE, Utah (March 5, 2010) – The fifth ranked SLCC women’s basketball team advanced to the Region 18 Championship game with an 86-77 win over Snow College.  Salt Lake will face North Idaho in the championship game tomorrow in Price, Utah.

Sheila Adams lead Salt Lake to the win with 31 points on 6-9 from behind the arc and 9-16 from the field.   Off the bench Jamie Mokofisi finished with a double double scoring 20 and collecting 13 rebounds.  Point guard Dayna Burgess was 4-5 from three-point land to finish with 18 points and nine assists.

SLCC Women hang on for a three point Win over Snow
SALT LAKE CITY (February 27, 2010) – The fifth ranked Lady Bruins finished up the regular season with a tight win over Snow College 79-76.  Salt Lake held a one point lead with 3.3 seconds left as Haley Holmstead was sent to the line for two shots.  Holmstead hit the clutch free throws to seal the win for Salt Lake.  The Bruins now head into the SWAC Regional Tournament as the number one seed with a record of 16-4 in conference play and 24-5 overall. 

Five Bruins finished in double figures with Allie Blake leading the way scoring 22 points on 9 of 15 shooting.  Haley Holmstead added 16 points and Sheila Adams finished with 10.  Off the bench Jamie Mokofisi was a perfect 5 of 5 from the field for 13 points and Mina Jovanovic had 11 points. 

No. 5 Salt Lake (24-5, 16-4 SWAC) will receive a first round bye at the Region 18 Tournament held at the College of Eastern Utah in Price, Utah.  Tournament play begins on March 4th-6th.

Last Second Shot wins it for the Bruins

EPHRAIM, Utah (February 25, 2010) – The fifth ranked SLCC Women’e basketball team clinched the SWAC Championship by defeating Snow College 64-62.  With the game tied at 62, Jamie Mokofisi hit the game winning shot.   Salt Lake is 23-5 overall and 15-4 in SWAC play. 

Haley Holmstead finished with 23 points and Jamie Mokofisi scored 13 points off the bench with seven rebounds.

Salt Lake (23-5, 15-4 SWAC) closes out the regular season against Snow College on Saturday February 27th at 6 pm.

Holmstead a Breaks Three School Records

SALT LAKE CITY (February 25, 2010) - Freshmen sensation Haley Holmstead  of Salt Lake Community College broke the season scoring record at Salt Lake with 600 points the record was held by Ashley Miller set in 1998-1999.  She also broke the single season free throw record with 185 made a record held by Bre Law with 154.  Holmstead leads the SWAC in scoring with 22.3 points per game and ranks second in the NJCAA.  In her freshmen year Haley has broken three school records, she now holds the single game scoring record (40 pts), single season point’s record (600) and single season free throw record (185/210).

 

The Bruins finish out their regular season with a trip to Snow College today and play their final home game on Saturday February 27th at 6 pm. 


SLCC Women Win third in a Row

PRICE, Utah (February 20, 2010) – No. 6 SLCC Women’s basketball team won their third straight game by defeating College of Eastern Utah 83-62.  Salt Lake held a five-point lead at half time but a big second half secured the win.  Salt Lake outscored Eastern Utah 25-29 in the second half. 

Haley Holmstead finished with 28 points along with Alli Blake’s 18 points.  Guard Dayna Burgess dished out six assists with 9 rebounds and three steals.  Salt Lake was 25-26 from the foul line and shot 51% from the field. 

The Bruins are in first place in the SWAC with a two game lead over second heading into the final week of conference play.  Salt Lake will head to Ephraim on February 25 to face Snow College and then host Snow on February 27th.

Big Second Half leads SLCC Women to easy Win

RANGLEY, Colorado (February 19, 2010) - The fifth ranked SLCC Women’s Basketball team defeated Colorado Northwestern 80-60.  A huge second half propelled Salt Lake to the easy win, the Bruins shot 59% in the second half.  Salt Lake is now 21-5 over all and 13-4 in SWAC play.

Haley Holmstead led Salt Lake with 23 points and Mina Jovanovic scored 17 points off the bench.  Salt Lake outrebounded Colorado 36-27 and held them to 29% shooting in the game.

SLCC Women’s basketball reaches 20 wins
SALT LAKE CITY (February 13, 2010) – The SLCC Women’s Basketball team regained control in the SWAC with a 72-61 defeat of North Idaho College.  Salt Lake shot 52% in the game and outscored North Idaho 42-31 in the second half.  Salt Lake is 20-5 overall and 12-4 in Scenic West action. 

Haley Holmstead scored 20 points on 11-22 shooting and was 7-7 from the free throw line.  Kelsey Sparkman collected 10 boards with eight points and Alli Blake finished with 15 points. 

The Bruins (20-5, 12-4 SWAC) hit the road to face Colorado Northwestern on Friday February 19th and take on Eastern Utah on Saturday February 20th.

SLCC Women Drop one at Home

SALT LAKE CITY (February 12, 2010) – The sixth ranked SLCC Women’s Basketball team fell to Southern Idaho 55-53.  The Bruins are now 19-5 overall and 11-4 in SWAC play. 

In the first half both teams struggled to shoot the ball well, SLCC shot 37% taking a six point lead into the second half.  However turnovers plagued the Bruins committing 26 turnovers resulting in 23 Idaho points.  Alli Blake led Salt Lake with 14 points and Sheila Adams scored 10.

Lady Bruins Drop a Close Game on the Road
EPHRIAM, Utah (February 6, 2010) – The fifth ranked SLCC Lady Bruins suffered a 70-67 loss to Snow College.  Snow College out rebounded the Bruins 44-27 in the game.  Salt Lake is 19-4 over all and 11-3 in SWAC play

Shiela Adams led the way for Salt Lake with 18 points and Alli Blake finished with 12 points.  Kelsey Sparkman scored 10 with six rebounds.  Guard Dayna Burgess had eight assists and four steals.

Lady Bruins Turn up the Defense take the Win
SALT LAKE CITY (January 30, 2010) – The Salt Lake Community College Women’s Basketball team beat Colorado Northwestern by a score of 79-52.  Salt Lake held Colorado to 29% shooting and 3 of 20 from behind the arc.  The Bruins are 18-3 overall and remain in first place in the Scenic West with a record of 11-2. 

Haley Holmstead scored 24 points with Alli Blake adding 17 points on 7-10 shooting.  Mina Jovanovic collected 10 rebounds with six points and five assists.  Salt Lake controlled the paint scoring 30 points under the basket with 54 rebounds to Colorado’s 28.

SLCC Women Remain Undefeated at Home
SALT LAKE CITY (January 29, 2010) – The fifth ranked Salt Lake Community College Lady Bruins defeated College of Eastern Utah by a score of 89-81.  Salt Lake went 20-26 from the field in the second half to secure the eight point win.  The Lady Bruins are now 18-3 overall and 10-2 in the SWAC.

Haley Holmstead led the Bruin scoring attack with 28 points on 10-14 shooting.  Sophomore Dayna Burgess scored a season high 24 points on 8-10 shooting to go along with eight assists.  Alli Blake and Sheila Adams both finished in double figures with Blake scoring 12 and Adams with 13.

No. 5 SLCC (18-3, 10-2 SWAC) returns to the hardwood to face Colorado Northwestern Saturday January 30th at 3 pm.

Lady Bruins Drop two in a Row
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (January 23, 2010) – The Salt Lake Community College Lady Bruins fell 74-59 to College of Southern Idaho for their third loss of the season.   SLCC committed 23 turnovers in the game and was out rebounded 23-13 on the offensive end of the court.  The loss takes SLCC’s record to 17-3 overall and 9-2 in conference play.

Freshmen Alli Blake led Salt Lake with 17 points and Mina Jovanovic came off the bench to score 12 points.  Southern Idaho held SWAC leading scorer Haley Holmstead to just nine points. 

Salt Lake returns to the floor January 29th to face College of Eastern Utah and January 30th against Colorado Northwestern at Bruin Arena.

Holmstead Drops 29 in Road Loss

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho (January 21, 2010) – The No. 2 SLCC Women’s Basketball team lost their second game of the season to North Idaho College 75-65.  Salt Lake led at halftime however North Idaho caught fire in the second half scoring 49 points to take the win.  The loss breaks Salt Lakes 17 game winning streak and moves their record to 17-2 overall and 9-1 in the Scenic West. 

Haley Holmstead scored 29 points in the loss with Mina Jovanovic finishing with 13 and Ali Blake adding nine points’ nine rebounds.  Four North Idaho players finished in double figures to help propel North past Salt Lake.

No. 2 Salt Lake (17-2, 9-1 SWAC) heads over to Twin Falls to face Southern Idaho (13-6, 5-4 SWAC) on Saturday January 23rd.

SLCC Women Remain Perfect at Home

SALT LAKE CITY (January 16, 2010) – In front of the largest crowd of the season the second-ranked SLCC Bruins escaped with a 68-67 win over Snow College.  Freshmen Alli Blake hit one of two free throws to give Salt Lake the one point win with 8.9 seconds left in the game.  Salt Lake extends their winning streak to 17 games and has a commanding lead atop the SWAC with a perfect 9-0 record. 

Sophomore Kelsey Sparkman led SLCC with 21 points; 17 of her points came in the 1st half.  Haley Holmstead scored 16 points with Alli Blake finishing with 11 points and seven rebounds.  Mina Jovanovic came off the bench to collect 10 rebounds and scored eight points.   Salt Lake cleaned up on the boards out-rebounding Snow 46-29; 16 of the rebounds were at the offensive end of the floor.  

No. 2 Salt Lake (17-1, 9-0 SWAC) puts their 17 game winning streak on the line as they hit to road to face North Idaho College (16-2, 7-2 SWAC) and Southern Idaho College (13-6, 5-4 SWAC).  Salt Lake takes on North Idaho on Thursday, January 21st and then battles Southern Idaho Saturday, January 23rd.

SLCC’s Holmstead named NJCAA Player of the Week
SALT LAKE CITY (January 13, 2010) – The second ranked SLCC Women’s Basketball team has been honored with the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) player of the week.  Freshmen Haley Holmstead was named the NJCAA player of the week for January 13th.  Holmstead has helped lead the Bruins to a 16-1 record while leading the nation in scoring with 23.7 points per game.  This is the first time a women’s basketball player has received this honor. Haley Holmstead (American Fork; American Fork, Utah) averaged 26.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game last week for Salt Lake Community College (Utah). The 5'7" guard put up an impressive 29 points against Eastern Utah and 34 the next day against Colorado Northwestern.  But, the most impressive stat of the week was her 94 percent showing at the free throw line.  Holmstead went 14-for-14 against Treasure Valley and 9-for-9 against Eastern Utah.  She finished out the week going 11-for-13 against Colorado Northwestern.  She is also leading the nation with 23.7 points per game.


Lady Bruins complete the Weekend Sweep
RANGLEY, Colorado (January 9, 2010) - No. 2 Salt Lake Community College Women's Basketball defeated Colorado Northwestern 79-68 to extend their win streak to 16 games.  Salt Lake led by as many as 22 points in the game and coasted to the 11 point win. 

Haley Holmstead led all scorers with 34 points on 11 of 14 shooting from the field.  Mina Jovanovic came off the bench to finish with a double double scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 boards.  Allie Blake finished with 12 points and seven rebounds along with Erin Rockwood off the bench to add seven.

PRICE, Utah (January 8, 2010) - The Salt Lake Community College Women's Basketball team keeps the winning streak alive with a 11 point win over College of Eastern Utah.  The second ranked team in the NJCAA is now 15-1 overall and 7-0 in the SWAC.

Haley Holmstead lead Salt Lake with 29 points hitting 9 of 9 shots from the foul line.  Sheila Adams added 10 points along with Kelsey Sparkman's eleven on 5 of 7 shooting.   Salt Lake out rebounded Eastern Utah 47-21 with 22 of the boards on the offensive end.

SLCC Women’s Basketball Returns from the Holidays with a Win
Ontario, Oregon (January 6, 2010) – The second ranked SLCC Women’s Basketball team returned from the holiday break with a 58-50 win over Treasure Valley Community College.  The Bruins maintain their win streak with 14 in a row and are 14-1 overall. 

Kelsey Sparkman and Haley Holmstead both had 16 points to lead Salt Lake to the eight point win.  The Bruins struggled to shoot from the floor but were almost perfect from the foul line going 19-20.

No. 2 SLCC Women come from 17 down to Capture the Win
SALT LAKE CITY (December 12, 2009) -  The second ranked SLCC Women’s Basketball team erased a 17 point half time deficit to defeat College of Southern Idaho by a score of 66-62.  Salt Lake held Southern Idaho to 25% shooting in the second half to outscored them 41-20.  Salt Lake extends the winning streak to 13 games and holds a commanding lead in the SWAC with a 6-0 record.

The free throw line was the difference maker; Salt Lake connected on 80% in the game while Southern Idaho hit only 57% of their attempts.  Forward Allie Blake led the charge finishing with 13 point and eight rebounds.  Blake hit 3-4 free throws in the last 10 seconds to seal the win for the Bruins.  Haley Holmstead scored 17 points hitting two free throws which gave Salt Lake the lead with 2:00 left in the game.

SLCC Women Trounce North Idaho by Ten

SALT LAKE CITY (December 11, 2009) – Haley Holmstead scores 31 points to lead the second ranked SLCC Women’s Basketball team to their 12th win in a row by defeating North Idaho 78-68.  Salt Lake held a 20 point half time lead holding North Idaho to 31% shooting in the first half.  SLCC now controls the SWAC with a 5-0 record and is 12-1 overall. 

Holmstead held the hot hand for the second ranked Bruins missing on only five shots going 13-18 from the field to finish with a game high 31 points.  Kelsey Sparkman was a perfect 5-5 for 12 points while Allie Blake controlled the paint scoring ten.

Make it 11 straight, #2 Lady Bruins Win by 17

POWELL, Wyoming (December 5, 2009) – No. 2 SLCC Women’s Basketball team won their eleventh straight game of the season by defeating Northwest College 87-60.  The Lady Bruins are enjoying the best start of the season in team history with an 11-1 record.

Four Bruins finished in double figures with Haley Holmstead leading with 24 points going 7-7 from the charity stripe.  Kelsey Sparkman was 5 of 6 from the floor to have 14 points. Off the bench Mina Jovanovic scored 13 and Erin Rockwood finished with a season high 12 points. 

The second ranked Lady Bruins (11-1, 4-0) return home for a conference showdown against the two second place teams North Idaho (7-1, 2-1 SWAC) on Friday December 11th and Southern Idaho (7-3, 2-1 SWAC) on Saturday December 12th.

No. 2 SLCC Women’s Basketball Wins Again

POWELL, Wyoming (December 4, 2009) – The second ranked SLCC Lady Bruins basketball team continued the winning streak by defeating  Eastern Wyoming by a score of 78-59.  Salt Lake shot 57% in the game and was 7 of 8 from the three point line.  The Bruins are now 10-1 overall.

Haley Holmstead led the scoring attack with 24 points while Sheila Adams was unstoppable from the three point line sinking 4 shots on 4 attempts to finish with 14 points.  Allie Blake finished in double digits with 11 points.  Salt Lake turned up the defensive pressure in the second half holding Eastern Wyoming to 27 points. 

No. 2 Salt Lake (10-1, 4-0 SWAC) will face tournament host Northwest Wyoming tomorrow in Powell Wyoming at 5:30 pm.

Lady Bruin Basketball enjoys #2 ranking in NJCAA
SALT LAKE CITY (December 2, 2009) – The Salt Lake Community College Women’s Basketball team jumps one spot in the NJCAA taking over the number two spot.  This marks the highest ranking for a women’s basketball team at SLCC.  The team is currently on a nine game winning streak.   Their only loss, a three point defeat, came against Casper College in the first game of the season.  Freshmen Haley Holmstead leads the Scenic West conference in scoring with 23.1 points per game which also ranks her fourth in the NJCAA.  Holmstead broke the single game scoring record when she dropped 40 points against College of Southern Idaho.

The Lady Bruins head up to Powell Wyoming for games against Eastern Wyoming and Northwest College.  Then the team returns home to host #24 North Idaho on December 11th and rival Southern Idaho on December 12th.

SALT LAKE CITY (November 28, 2009) – Third ranked SLCC Women’s Basketball wins their ninth game in a row defeating College of Eastern Utah 85-74.  The Bruins held a 24 point half time lead holding Eastern Utah to 35% shooting in the first half.   Salt Lake remains undefeated in Scenic West action with a 4-0 record and they are 9-1 overall.

SALT LAKE CITY (November 27, 2009) – The 3rd ranked SLCC Women’s Basketball team crushed Colorado Northwestern by 30 points winning by a score of 81-51.  Salt Lake remains perfect in SWAC play with a record of 3-0 and they extend their winning streak to eight games.

Four Bruins finished the game in double digits with Haley Holmstead leading all scoring with 19 points on 6 of 9 shooting and 7 of 9 free throw attempts.  Allie Blake scored 15 points with seven boards and Sheila Adams finished with 11 points.  Off the bench, Mina Jovanovic scored a season high 13 points on 5 of 6 shooting from the floor.  The Salt Lake defense forced 21 turnovers while blocking four shots and stealing 12 balls.

Women’s Basketball Coach Betsey Specketer wins her 300th game

SALT LAKE CITY (November 24, 2009) –  Salt Lake Community College would like to congratulate Head Women’s Basketball Coach Betsey Specketer on her 300th win of her career.  Coach Specketer has been the head woman’s basketball coach at SLCC for 14 years compiling a record of 300 wins and 130 losses.  Her team is currently ranked third in the NJCAA with a record of 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the Scenic West.

Specketer has coached fourteen 1st Team All-Conference players, fifteen 2nd Team All-Conference players, nine NJCAA All-Americans, three SWAC Conference MVPs, and six WBCA All-Americans. On top of her team’s successes, Specketer garnered the Region 18 Coach of the Year award in 1996-1997, 2001-2002, and 2006-07, a WBCA Region 7 Coach of the Year in 2000-2001 and an NJCAA District M Coach of the Year in 2005-06 and 2006-

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho (November 21, 2009) – The third ranked SLCC Women’s Basketball team extends their winning streak to seven games after defeating North Idaho 62-61.  With the game tied at 61 Allie Blake hit 1 of 2 free throws to take win the game for Salt Lake.  Salt Lake is 7-1 overall and 2-0 in Scenic West action.

Allie Blake was the hero for the Bruins hitting a clutch free throw to win the game finishing with 22 points and eight rebounds.  Haley Holmstead continued her stellar play with 22 points along with Dayna Burgess who scored 10 points.  Salt Lake was down four at half when they ramped up the defense to hold North Idaho to 37% shooting in the second half while the Bruins shot 55% to close the gap.

Holmstead Explodes for 40 points in Win over CSI
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (November 19, 2009) – Freshman Haley Holmstead breaks the single game scoring record with 40 points in a 18 point win over College of Southern Idaho.  The third ranked Bruins took a 16 point lead in to the locker room at halftime.  Southern Idaho was unable to overcome poor shooting (38%) in the first half while Salt Lake was red hot hitting 81% of their shots.  No. 3 Salt Lake is now 6-1 overall and 1-0 in SWAC play. 

The unstoppable Holmstead shot 12 of 19 from the floor and missed only one of 16 free throws.  Allie Blake was the next leading scorer with 10 points followed by Dayna Burgess with six points, six assists, six rebounds and four steals.  Salt Lake’s defense held Southern Idaho to 35% shooting from the floor and 20% from behind the arc. 

No. 3 Salt Lake (6-1) is on a six game winning streak and faces North Idaho on Saturday November 20th in Coeur D’Alene.

SLCC Women’s Basketball Jumps to #3 in NJCAA Poll

SALT LAKE CITY (November 18, 2009) – Salt Lake Community College women’s basketball jumps into the NJCAA Division I national polls by grabbing the number three spot.  This marks the first time that SLCC women’s basketball has been ranked in the top three.  SLCC is coming off of two big wins against preseason #1 ranked Central Arizona (94-79) and perennial power Midland College (62-61).
 

Freshmen Haley Holmstead leads the Bruin scoring attack with 21.2 points per game; sophomore Dayna Burgess leads with 6.0 assists and Kelsey Sparkman averages 6.8 rebounds per game.  Holmstead hit her season high in points against Central Arizona when she scored 33 points missing the scoring record by one point.

SLCC Women’s Basketball Completes the Weekend Sweep
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (November 14, 2009) – The SLCC Women’s Basketball team complete the three game sweep by defeating the Southern Idaho All Stars 74-62.  The team is now 5-1 overall heading into SWAC play.

Amie Jensen came off the bench to lead the team with 14 points.  Haley Holmstead finished her weekend with 13 points, nine rebounds, four assist and two steals.  Dayan Burgess added in 10 points with eight rebounds. 

The Lady Bruins (5-1) take their three game winning streak on the road to face the hostile College of Southern Idaho crowd on November 19th followed by a trip up to #4 North Idaho November 21st.

SLCC Women’s Basketball Hands #1 Central Arizona a 15 point loss
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (November 13, 2009) – The Salt Lake Community College Women’s Basketball team exploded for a 94-79 win over number one ranked Central Arizona.  The Bruins held a 12 point lead at half time and continued the hot shooting in the second half sinking 74% of their shots to hold off any run by Central Arizona.  The impressive win puts Salt Lake’s record at 4-1 and the team is currently on a three game winning streak.

Five players reached double figures for Salt Lake including two players finishing with a double double.  Freshman Haley Holmstead finished with a season high 33 points one point shy of the school record 34 points.  Holmstead connected on 10 of 16 shots and went 13 of 16 from the charity stripe.  Sharp shooter Sheila Adams finished with 12 points hitting on 4-9 three pointers.  Sophomores Dayna Burgess and Kelsey Sparkman both ended the game with double double’s.  Burgess scored 16 points and dished out 10 assists.  Sparkman grabbed 11 boards to go along with 13 points.

SLCC Women's Basketball Downs #5 Midland College
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (November 12,2009) - The SLCC Women's Basketball team defeated #5 Midland College 62-61.  The win takes Salt Lakes record to 3-1 overall.

With 1:30 left in the game Salt Lake was trailing by three points when Haley Holmstead took over the game.  Holmstead scored the last four points for Salt Lake sinking a free throw to take the lead with 13 seconds left. Two big defensive stops with less than one minute left on the clock sealed the win for Salt Lake.

Holmstead finished the game with 21 points followed by Sheila Adams with 10. Jami Mokofisi came off the bench to score a tough eight points.

SLCC Women's Basketball defeats Pima by Nine
CEDAR CITY, Utah (November 7, 2009) - The SLCC Women’s Basketball team tallies another win defeating Pima College 59-50.  Haley Holmstead finished with 19 points leading the Bruin scoring attack and Kelsey Sparkman cleaned up on the boards finishing with 13 rebounds.  Point guard Dayna Burgess added six points, four steals and three assists in the win.  Salt Lake’s tough defense held Pima to 4 of 22 on three point attempts. 

Salt Lake (2-1) heads up to Twin Fall’s on November 13th for the CSI Tournament where they will face two tough opponents in Midland College and Central Arizona.

Holmstead Leads Bruins to First Win

CEDER CITY, Utah (November 6, 2009) – The SLCC Women’s Basketball (1-1) team evened their record win a ten point (73-63) win against Arizona Western.  Haley Holmstead led all Bruin scoring with 17 points and Ali Blake powered her way to score 16 along with five rebounds.  Jami Mokofisi was 5-7 from the charity stripe to finish with nine points off the bench and point guard Dayna Burgess controlled the offence eight assists and four steals.

Salt Lake (1-1) takes to the floor again tomorrow against Pima College at the SUU Tournament in Cedar City.

Women’s Basketball Falls in OT

CASPER, Wyoming (November 2, 2009) – The SLCC Women’s Basketball team opened there 2009-2010 season with a tough overtime loss to Casper College 78-81.  Freshmen Haley Holmstead led the offence with 24 points and nine rebounds.  Kelsey Sparkman added in 13 points and eight rebounds along with Dayna Burgess scoring 10 points with seven assist and seven rebounds.

The Bruins look to even their record as they return to the floor this weekend at the SUU Tournament held in Cedar City, Utah.

Salt Lake CC Hires New Assistant Women's Basketball Coach

SALT LAKE CITY (July 25, 2009) – Athletic Director Norma Carr is pleased to announce that Shelley Jarrard has been named the new assistant women’s basketball coach and academic advisor for the athletic department. 

Coach Jarrard has an extensive background that includes over 10 years of playing and coaching at the collegiate level.  Most recently from 2004-2006 she was the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Kansas State University.  Prior to Kansas State Jarrard spent 10 years at the University of Utah as an assistant coach.  While with the Ute’s she helped the team advance to the NCAA Tournament seven times and had 6 All-Americans.

Coach Jarrard specializes in perimeter players and defensive strategies. 

"Shelley will bring an amazing amount of experience to SLCC women's basketball.  She's the entire coaching package with teaching, training, recruiting, and scouting experience” said Head Coach Betsy Specketer  “ along with the X's and O's of high level floor games.  I look forward to working with her and using her experience and knowledge to further the growth and development of our program."

She earned her bachelor’s degree in human and organizational development from Vanderbilt, while playing for the Commodores she finished with 1,003 points scored and was team MVP in 1992.
