Adjunct Faculty Peer Review Evaluations

Liaisons are instructed to use one of the regular Concurrent Enrollment site visits to conduct the annual peer review for each Concurrent Enrollment teacher. By making classroom visits, administering student evaluations, and making pedagogical evaluations liaisons can take the guess work out of the curriculum, determine if the full curricula is being covered, gauge whether or not students are learning at a college level, and verify that the same degree of rigor is present.

Salt Lake Community College and National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP) standards require Concurrent Enrollment teachers to be evaluated in the same way as college adjunct faculty members. There are four parts of the Concurrent Enrollment teacher evaluation: (1) Peer review, (2) curriculum evaluation, (3) IAS student evaluation, and (4) documentation of professional development. Classroom observation visits (link to definition), as defined in this document, for the purpose of peer review evaluations, are required at least once per year for each teacher.

During peer review evaluations Concurrent Enrollment Liaisons observe the teacher and class for the whole class period, complete the "Concurrent Enrollment Adjunct Faculty Peer Review" form, and obtain the high school instructor's signature at the conclusion of the peer review observation visit, as in other Concurrent Enrollment site visits. Liaisons will receive payment for these observations as for other Concurrent Enrollment site visits.

Below are a list of requirements for the adjunct faculty peer review evaluation process:

  1. Liaisons perform the peer review by observing an entire class period to evaluate the instructor's methods for beginning, teaching, and concluding a lesson.
  2. Classroom observations visits, as defined in this document, are required at least once per year for each teacher as part of the SLCC instructor evaluation process.
  3. The peer review visits are included in, not in addition to, the required number of Concurrent Enrollment site visits.
  4. Liaisons evaluate the teacher visits using the Concurrent Enrollment Instructor Evaluation and Site Visit Form. The scores from all of the observations for a given course will be used for the teacher's evaluation.
  5. Liaisons make one peer review evaluation for each teacher each year and complete the "Concurrent Enrollment Adjunct Faculty Peer Review" form.
  6. Liaisons determine if the high school instructor is teaching the college curriculum, using the college approved textbook, using the same student progress assessments as regular college faculty, and using a comparable course syllabus.
  7. High school teachers are required to submit a syllabus to the Concurrent Enrollment office, for each course, each semester. Electronic documents are preferred.
  8. The liaison, Concurrent Enrollment director and division/department chair or designee will address any concerns that arise regarding the quality of instruction or as a result of the evaluations.
  9. Concurrent Enrollment teachers conduct the IAS student evaluation of the course.
  10. The liaison, Concurrent Enrollment director and division/department chair or designee will address any concerns that arise regarding the quality of instruction or as a result of the evaluations. The Concurrent Enrollment Liaison Handbook on the Concurrent Enrollment website contains the procedure for addressing concerns regarding the high school teacher"s performance.
