What is this program about?
The Building Construction/Construction Management program has been tailored to give students a range of options and offers a variety of degree choices.

Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degree 
The AAS degree is a great way to gain hands-on skills in:  concrete, framing, carpentry, finish carpentry, cabinetmaking and construction management.  Many students pursuing this degree have had previous construction experience.  Students may be able to get credit for prior work experience. 

Associate of Science (AS) Degree
The AS degree is targeted at students who are wishing to earn a four-year bachelor's degree in Construction Management.  Coursework completed at SLCC will transfer to Weber State University.  This degree is ideal for students who are looking to advance to managerial positions.

How long does it take to complete the program?

The Associate of Applied Science degree requires 64 credits
(4 semesters) to complete.

Associate of Science degree requires a minimum of 66 hours
(4 semesters) to complete.

These requirements are designed to transfer to Weber State University's BS degree in Construction Management.

What makes this program unique?
For more than 40 years, the Building Construction/Construction Management program has been helping students stay ahead of the game.  Courses generally have a student to teacher ratio of 12:1.  The two-day week full time training gives flexibility so students can have a regular job to earn income plus attend school.

Each semester students in the Construction Field Management class are divided into teams responsible for building a $300,000 home to be sold to the public.  Students are responsible for all aspects of the project including:

  • selecting a blueprint
  • obtaining a building permit and
  • hiring subcontractors.  

The Building Construction and Construction Management program prepares students for the following careers:
  • Cabinetmaking
  • Concrete Worker
  • Construction Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent
  • Estimator/Assistant Estimator
  • Framing/Finish Carpentry
  • Project Manager/Assistant Project Manager
