Law Enforcement Academy



For the Law Enforcement Academy there is a National Entrance Exam that everyone must take. The test is available Tuesday and Wednesday at 5:45 PM in room W-128 at the South City Campus, 1575 South State, and make sure you take your state issued photo ID. The cost of the test is $30.00. No appointment is necessary. The "National Police Officer Selection Test Study Guide" is available in the college bookstores for approximately $3.50. Test results from the post exam never expire, so make several copies, because every agency you apply to will request a copy of your scores.

The POST classes are taught Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and for MOD II Friday evenings from 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM and Saturdays 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. MODULE I is 13 weeks in length and the cost is $1500.00 plus a $5.00 processing fee and MODULE II is 20 weeks in length and the cost is $3000.00. A $100.00 non-refundable deposit against your tuition is required for each module when the application is submitted. All applicants must register as a Salt Lake Community College student the cost is $35.00, you must also take the Accuplacer in the assessment center, and it is recommended that you also apply for financial aid; if you are self sponsored. All students must declare a Criminal Justice Major. Payment arrangements can also be made with any of the college cashiering offices.

You must be 21 years old by the time you graduate from the Academy. The application is in Adobe PDF file format, so you will need to have Adobe reader to access it and fill it in, if you do not have the Adobe reader you can download it for free from www.adobe.com (get Adobe reader link). You may acquire an application by going on-line at www.post.utah.gov; go to publications- document, then to post application for certification and then finally to Application for certification PDF (1.2MB) (allow about five minutes for the application to download if you have a dial-up connection). Complete your application on your computer (your name will be printed down the side of each page automatically), make at least two copies of your application for your own records and remember to include all explanations for questions answered with a "yes". Question 17 & 19 enter "see attachment" and then on a separate piece of paper list you addresses and employers for the past ten years in chronological order. When you have completed all aspects of the application checklist please call and schedule an appointment with our office, so we may review the contents with you.
