South High Alumni Association

The South High Alumni Association was founded in 1995 by a cooperative group consisting of members of the Salt Lake Community College Development Office and South High alumni. Since that time, we have continued in this partnership: SLCC offers administrative support in exchange for SHAA scholarships for the descendants of their alumni.

We are very proud of this relationship and grateful for the opportunity to continue the Spirit of South High.

Mission

The South High Alumni Association is committed to the heritage of South High School.

~ By providing scholarships to our descendants, we uphold the legacy of of education that began at South High.

~We work to preserve our traditions and history as we connect with our alumni through reunions, activities, and the South Scribe newsletter.

~We honor Salt Lake Community College for their stewardship of the historic South High building and work with them in the preservation and renewal of the facility.

Scholarships

The South High Alumni Association offers a limited number of SLCC scholarships to students who are descended from a South High alumnus. These scholarships offer half tuition to students who carry a minimum of nine credit hours.

Students are judged on a combination of grades (transcripts required), need, work experience, extracurricular activities, recommendations, and ability to express goals.

Students who show extraordinary achievement or have extraordinary need may be awarded full tuition awards at the discretion of the selection committee. These special awards are made possible through the generosity of the Stewart Education Foundation.

Applications may be obtained at Salt Lake area high school counseling offices, at SLCC Financial Aid offices, or by calling the South High office at 801-957-4658.

South Scribe

The South Scribe newsletter is published three times a year and has information about reunions, the scholarship program, the Honor Roll, the annual Cub Classic Golf Tournament, special events, and Salt Lake Community College.

There are still 15,000 missing Cubs on our rolls.
