South High Alumni Association

The South High Alumni Association was founded in 1995 by a cooperative group consisting of members of the Salt Lake Community College Development Office and a group of South High alumni. Since that time, we have continued in this partnership: SLCC offers administrative support and an office at South City Campus, and SHAA provides SLCC scholarships to the descendants of their alumni. We are very proud of this relationship and grateful for the opportunity to continue the Spirit of South High.

Mission
Develop a scholarship foundation to provide scholarships for students to attend Salt Lake Community College; principally those who are former South High students, and their direct descendents.
Establish a communication and resource center for the many alumni committees who want to periodically hold their class reunions. Salt Lake Community College provides an office for SHAA at the South City Campus.
The South Scribe is a newsletter that is mailed to alumni three times a year. Named for the original South High newspaper, it is the primary means of communicating with alumni.
The Alumni Association’s Reunion Coordinators help reunion committees facilitate their events. For reunions held at South City Campus, the Coordinators see that SLCC personnel have complete event information, while advising committees of available services. The Database Manager also provides services to reunion committees. These include class lists, nametags, mailing services, etc.
Take steps to maintain, preserve, restore and enhance traditions of South High School. South High’s tradition of excellence includes great legacies of education, music, athletics, service, and friendship. Association activities that support this heritage are the Scholarship Foundation, the Cub Classic Golf Tournament, the South Scribe newsletter, and a variety of volunteer opportunities. The South High Alumni Association Honor Roll was introduced to honor those alumni whose contributions have benefited the community at large.
Salt Lake Community College designated the former Board of Control Room as the South High Alumni Room after a generous donor contributed funds to furnish and refurbish the room. South High trophies, yearbooks, and memorabilia are displayed.
Work in cooperation with the staff and administration of Salt Lake Community College in the growth and renewal of this great facility. The South High Alumni Association is indebted to Salt Lake Community College for the support and generosity extended over the years. As SLCC continues to expand and develop South City Campus, the Association is pleased to offer its support in return.

Scholarships
SHAA offers a limited number of SLCC scholarships to students who are descended from a South High alumnus. These scholarships offer approximately half tuition to students willing to carry 12 credit hours.
Students are judged on a combination of grades (transcripts required), need, work experience, extracurricular activities, recommendations, and ability to express goals.
Students who show extraordinary achievement or have extraordinary need may be awarded full tuition awards at the discretion of the selection committee. These special awards are made possible through the generosity of the Stewart Education Foundation. Applications may be obtained at Salt Lake area high school counseling offices, at SLCC Financial Aid offices, by calling the South High office at 801-957-4658 or click here to download.
South Scribe
The South Scribe newsletter is published three times a year and has information about reunions, the scholarship program, the Honor Roll, special events, and Salt Lake Community College.
There are still 15,000 missing Cubs on our rolls. If you attended South High School and would like to receive the Scribe, please see the information below.
