Chairs and Adjustable Tables in Classrooms

Special chairs and adjustable tables are accommodations required under ADA for students whose medical conditions require them.  Students needing special chairs may have one or more disabilities; such as, orthopedic conditions, spinal injuries, obesity or they may be wheelchair users who need adjustable tables.

The DRC has several hundred chairs and dozens of tables for use by students with such impairments.  They are clearly marked and numbered.  They are placed in classrooms for specific students, but since several classes meet in each room, there may not be a student who needs the chair in any specific class.

Faculty who have students in their classes who need these accommodations will be notified in a written Notice of Accommodation.  Faculty is encouraged to leave the chairs and tables where they are.

The DRC or the Fix-It staff are the only ones who should move these items.  Due to the very large inventory, the college has no central place to store the equipment, so our inventory tracking is based on room assignment.  When they are moved, we lose track and it creates problems.

Questions about tables and chairs should be address to the DRC.
