What are Students Saying About SLCC?

Name: Masako

Hometown: Chiba, Japan

Major: Business

I graduated from SLCC in 2002 with a General Studies degree and in 2003 with a Business degree. I transferred to the University of Utah last year and I will graduate with my Bachelor’s degree this summer.

SLCC is a great school for students when they first enter the United States-- the size of the school is perfect. Unlike large universities, the size of each class is smaller and you have much more contact with professors and classmates if you’d like any help with class work. Also there are high quality services and facilities (libraries, computer labs, etc.) offered on campus.

The staff in the International Student Services office provides great, friendly service to you! The tuition is cheaper compared to other colleges/universities throughout the U.S. I saved a lot of money by completing my first three years at SLCC and will finish my Bachelor’s with one additional year. Salt Lake City is very safe and Utah is a quiet and beautiful place to be! I hope that more and more people will have a chance to study in Utah!

Name: Irene

Hometown: Madrid, Spain

Major: Broadcast Journalism/Communications

When I decided to come to the U.S to study, I was looking for a college that could teach me theory of Communications, and also provide me with the experience to apply what I was learning. Salt Lake Community College is giving me the opportunity to be a better professional through its numerous practical classes and through very experienced faculty in the area of Broadcast Journalism.

At SLCC there is a fully working television studio, a campus radio station and a campus newspaper. During the past year, I have been a T.V. anchor for a news program, hosted a radio show and written articles that were published in the GLOBE (SLCC newspaper). The technology at SLCC is excellent and I am getting a very good education and experience at a reasonable price. Most importantly, I am learning valuable skills that will prepare me for a career as a Broadcast Journalist when I return to Spain.

Name: Kitti

Hometown: Udon-Thani, Thailand

Major: Business

I have been an international student at SLCC for the last two semesters. It’s a great college for new and transfer students. The college offers lots of classes and majors for you to take, in many different fields. You can change your major anytime you want, in case you change your mind about what you want to study.

SLCC also has many campuses around the city which  means you can choose to go to the closest campus to your house or apartment. About friends, don't worry, you will find lots of friends here. I made a lot of new friends last semester, and they are all from different countries. You will have no problem getting to know people from other countries and students from Utah. We have an international club that keeps everybody in touch and has lots of fun with activities like hiking, snowboarding, and parties. If you come to study at SLCC, you’re sure to have many wonderful and unforgettable experiences!

Name: Augustino

Hometown: Tonj, Sundan

Major: Sociology

In May 2004, my aspiration of graduating from college was achieved when I received my Associate Degree from SLCC. But the success was not mine alone. With open hands for students that Salt Lake Community College staff and faculty have, I made it through the hardships that were somehow threatening to prohibit me from reaching my goal.

I didn’t know what to do with my transfer credits, degree evaluation, and required major courses, but the wonderful advisors helped me out. I looked for a job on-campus and found one, which would have not been easy for me if I tried it outside campus or even at other schools. Everyone at SLCC, whether being staff, faculty or student cares about each other. While staff and faculty are concerned with their work, students are their first priority. Students’ achievements mark the staff and faculty’s happiness and goal for doing their job at the college. They become excited as they see you obtaining your educational goals.

Salt Lake Community College is a “community for all”, and I was not bothered by my status as a foreign student. My integration was very easy because everyone at the college welcome me with open mind and heart. The decision to attend SLCC is, to me, appropriate and very wise. It has opened my eyes to the world of higher education, providing me with vital knowledge which I should have not received otherwise. I have great appreciation for Salt Lake Community College, the entire faculty, staff and my colleagues for their support in my educational achievement.
