Instructions for Applicants Outside of the U.S.

This application procedure is for students who are applying for admission from outside the U.S. The following documents and credentials are to be submitted to International Student Services for review before Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) will issue an I-20:

1. Application for Admission
Complete the International Student Application for Admission with the appropriate field of study. A $75 non-refundable application fee must accompany the application.

2. Financial Verification

A realistic financial plan is necessary for the issuance of an I-20 form. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS, formerly INS) requires Salt Lake Community College to verify that an international student has the financial ability to pursue an education in the United States. The following documents may be used to demonstrate financial ability:

  • An official bank statement showing at least $18,900 in liquid assets (additional $4,000 required for each dependent) from the student or his/her sponsor (a sponsor is not required if the student has sufficient funds on his/her own).
  • A financial statement (download, print and mail) signed by your sponsor and notarized.

Please note the following:

  • Financial aid and scholarships are not available for international students
  • Students on visas always pay non-resident tuition
  • Faxed documents are not accepted

3. No TOEFL  Required
   
   
To be placed into classes all students will take the accuplacer test (http://www.slcc.edu/testing). Students who do not have the English proficiency required for college-level work will enroll 20 hours per week in ESL Program. Students taking credit-bearing college level courses will be issued an I-20 for the major of their choice, but are still required to take the Accuplacer test.

4. Transcripts

Students who have attended a U.S. post-secondary school, college or university must submit official transcripts from that school.

Students who have attended a non-U.S. post-secondary school, college, or university are not required to submit transcripts, but may submit them for possible credit transfer. Official English translations must be included with all foreign documents. Faxed documents are not accepted. Foreign credit evaluations can be obtained through a company that does foreign credential evaluation such as Educational Perspectives at www.educational-perspectives.org.


5. Copy of student passport

The following documents are also required to register for classes:

1. TB screening completion and proof of MMR vaccine. Please complete the TB screening form and submit it to Health and Wellness services on the Redwood Road campus, along with proof of the MMR vaccine.

2. Proof of health insurance. The SLCC health insurance plan for F-1 international students is provided by Renaissance Agencies, Inc. Enrollment information for the SLCC plan for international students can be found at www.renstudent.com/slcc. If a student can show proof of comparable coverage through another source, the requirement to buy Renaissance insurance can be waived. To request a waiver, a student must submit a detailed copy of the existing health insurance policy, along with a Request for Insurance Waiver Form to ISS.  All required documentation must be received by ISS at least 5 working days before new student orientation.  Late requests will not be considered.

Summer Semester: April 1


After all the requested documents and credentials have been received, the application for admission will be evaluated and processed. If approved, an I-20 form will be issued to the prospective student.
