These online courses are designed to give students an overview and introduction to library services including public and information services as well as technical services. Courses can be taken in any order, however, coursework follows the semester timeline. Students completing the three courses with a "C" grade or better may receive a certificate.

LT 1010 Introduction to Library Services This course provides an overview of types of libraries, media and information centers, tools and terminology used in libraries, and the role of library assistants. The Library Bill of Rights, and basic freedom of information and privacy issues will be discussed.

LT 1200 Public and Information Services for Libraries This course focuses on library circulation systems including policies and procedures, reserve collections, patron holds and requests, philosophy of reference and information services, information sources, reference interviewing, and search strategies. Attention will be given to customer communication techniques.

LT 1500 Library Technical Services This course provides the student with an overview of the processes by which materials and collections are acquired and prepared for public access. Bibliographic search tools, basic acquisition terminology serials ordering, check-in and claim processes, cataloging and processing terminology along with cataloging reference tools and resources will be covered.
