The Department aspires to provide students with the background in mathematics and mathematics education necessary to be successful in their chosen careers and to be productive members of society. Therefore, the department offers courses ranging from Intermediate Algebra through Linear Algebra and Differential Equations. Many math courses are available in hybrid, Internet or traditional formats. The faculty strive to utilize new technologies and incorporate best practices in all courses.
Math courses support all degrees awarded by SLCC and these courses are fully articulated with other higher education institutions. The Mathematics department participates in annual meetings with faculty from other Utah State Higher Education Institutions to discuss assessment, transfer and articulation issues. These meetings are a statewide effort to ensure transferability of courses.
Students should consult with their academic program advisor and transfer institution to determine which of these courses is appropriate for their program. The department seeks to meet needs of students by developing new courses and assessing existing courses. As such we have developed courses for math majors as well as courses for career and technical education. I am excited about these courses and can hardly wait for future development of new curriculum.
Many fields require mathematical preparation furthermore, individuals with more mathematical training can make job market entry more viable. Thus I close with three words: "take more math."
Sincerely,

Joe Gallegos
