Student Success Stories

Upon graduating...I was offered 5 jobs

I had always been interested in the Medical Field.  At age 45, my husband died and I had 5 children to support. The nursing program had a 3-4 year wait.  I needed a job sooner than that.   I found the Medical  Assisting course at SLCC and finished in 3 semesters.

Upon graduating from the course I was offered 5 jobs.  I chose to work at the University Hospital in Labor and Delivery.   I use my skills from school to assist with Laboring patients and assist with deliveries, I scrub for C/Sections, and assist in our triage unit.

I love my scope of practice and helping patients have a positive experience.  The success of our unit has proven that Medical Assistants have a very important role in a hospital setting.  The University Hospital is now expanding their MA program to other units of the hospital to work with nurses for optimal  patient care.

I would recommend this course to anyone interested in patient care both in the clinics and hospitals. Medical Assisting is a great career that you can begin at any age or stage of life.

I was hired right away

As a former student and graduate of the SLCC Medical Assisting Program, I can say that I have been well prepared to work as a Medical Assistant in the medical field.

Some of the many things that impressed me about SLCCs program were the small class sizes, the up-to-date medical equipment and supplies, and the careful instruction.  Also, with the ability to complete the program in one year, I was allowed to enter the workforce much earlier than most other college graduates.

After finishing the Medical Assisting Program, I was hired right away for the position that I wanted, and had the skills and competence to do the job.

As a Medical Assistant training other students at my job, I continued to be impressed with the students from the SLCC MA program.  In fact, attendance of this program later became the standard for training at our facility.

I had many opportunities throughout my education and training.  In particular, I was able to participate in the Health Knowledge Bowl, and was granted a tuition waiver for the rest of my program.

For anyone interested in an education as a Medical Assistant, I can highly and confidently recommend Salt Lake Community College as your number one choice in training.
