First Edition ofProgram NewsletterWell here it finely is, the first edition of the SLCC Medical Assistant Program Newsletter. It has been a goal of mine for over a year to use the program web site as means of communication with our great graduates. We are hoping this will be a more efficient way to contact you with such information as up coming seminars, registration dates for the CMA exam or the LRPT Exams, review classes for CEU’s, or even just to say “Hello”. First an update on what’s going on in the program. The program had its third site by the AAMA for reaccredidation in April of this year and faculty are anxiously awaiting the site teams report. We are anticipating approval for another ten years but we will all give a sigh of relief when we known for sure. We have finely hired a new full time faculty member replacing Kellie Miller who left in March of 2005. She has over 10 years of teaching experience in proprietary schools so we are excited to make an honest woman of her and welcome her into public education. One thing is for sure, she will never have to worry what she will do with her time or her money any more. Kathy Vesper is still with the college, tormenting the students with Radiology, however she has a new job with the UUHN as a Medical Assistant advisor. Diana Carroll is still here too, which we are grateful for, but she has decided she needed a change and will be teaching back office skills starting this fall instead of Medical Office Management and Medical Coding. I don’t know if I feel sorry or happy for those new students coming up! As for myself, I’m still here tormenting students as always with Dosage Calculations and Pharmacology Quizzes. | Lastly, we are anxiously watching the progress on the new Health Science Building on the Jordan Campus. Many of you may have seen the steel going up if you live or work in the area. The building is schedule to open in May of 2007 and while we are excited to move we will miss this old place a lot. DEXA WorkshopPlannedThe program recently received a DEXA machine donated to the college by Jennifer Genter at Bone Check. We are so excited to add DEXA screening to the curriculum in Radiology. As a way of announcing this addition to the program and curriculum, we will be holding a two-day workshop October 6th and 7th for those interested in certifying in DEXA or just in improving their DEXA techniques. The women conducting the workshop is XXX and if you are interested, please see the attached flier with more information on the cost, as well as dates and times. For you LRPT’’s out there, this is a great way to earn your CEU for the year. Special Study SpineClass FallAs a means of incorporating DEXA into the curriculum, we’re pleased to announce we are offering a Spine Special study class Fall semester 2006. This is a two credit-hour class taught on-line with competency pass-offs to be completed with Kathy Vesper throughout the course. The course number is MA 2990 and cost $306.75 for tuition and student fees. Text can be purchased in the bookstore and are not included in the tuition price. You can register for the fall Semester class in Spine and DXA now. MA 2990-001 - Spc Radlgcl Proc/Spine & DEXA 45171 For more information Click here: SPINE |
