Students entering the Medical Assisting program first must complete college placement exams at the levels specified in the college catalog. Once this is done, students can begin program course work as outlined in the college catalog, completing the program in three semesters or ten-months time. It is helpful to meet with a faculty advisor before scheduling classes.
Students in the Medical Assisting Program at SLCC receive extensive hands-on training in both entry level and advanced medical assisting competencies in accordance with the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) Essential Guidelines.
The SLCC Medical Assisting program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation of the Curriculum Review Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants Endowment (AAMAE).
Graduates of the program at SLCC are prepared to sit for and successfully pass both the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) national certification exam administered by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) and the Licensed Radiologic Practical Technician (LRPT) exam administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). They are of immediate value to the physician/provider, specialty clinics, urgent care facilities, hospitals and multi-specialty health maintenance facilities.
