The Office for Diversity and Multicultural Affairs works with the college community to provide a welcoming environment for culturally diverse students that promotes leadership, freedom of expression and exchanging of ideals that enhance education, and personal and professional growth that leads to an improved quality of life.
Salt Lake Community College’s ethnic minority students are our focus. By embracing social, educational, and cultural diversity we support and help students succeed in their pursuit of an education, a rewarding career, and a realization of their personal goals.
Goals & Objectives:
- We promote programs and services and opportunities through collaboration with other SLCC departments, organizations, and community agencies
- We create a welcoming environment through specific outreach to our under-served populations
- We promote civic responsibility by assisting students in learning and developing life-long skills
- We recruit and develop student leaders with a vision to make connections between our students and the community
Departmental programs and services are driven by three purposes and values:
Gain and promote skills learned that will place students in positions of leadership, involvement, and networking.
Promote and provide opportunities that allow students to become more integrated into college student experience gaining organizational and navigational skills, and transformational learning.
Assist with the development of student potential thought the exploration and understanding of implementation of theoretical frameworks and praxis foster a non-radicalized and criminalized cultural identity development, minimize deficit thinking in and out the classroom, and increase persistence and retention of students of color involving.
