Mission                           

Multicultural Initiatives serves as a bridge between Salt Lake Community College and its diverse and ethnic students, personnel, and the community we serve.  We are committed to:

 
** increasing ethnical/ cultural awareness      

** sharing resources

** coordinating training and workshops

** providing services and programming to
     the college community at large

With this in mind, Multicultural Initiatives fosters an inclusive environment where respect, openness, trust, and support form the basis of multicultural interaction. 

By examining issues of race and ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation we are committed to:

** promoting personal growth

** supporting cultural               

** encouraging community education

** engaging in positive social change, and the ending of human oppression

Purpose

Multicultural Initiatives Department and its Center are vital resources for ethnic, cultural and diverse students and the College community. Our objectives include, but are not limited to, the following:

** Promote and provide a welcoming  environment;

** Assist in the recruitment, persistence  and retention of diverse, cultural, ethnic students, faculty, and staff

** Be an integral part in the development and implementation of diversity courses;

** Promote and provide professional development in diversity and multiculturalism through formal and  informal training;

** Work with various community agencies, projects, and initiatives to continue  outreach partnership promoting diversity and multiculturalism;

** Serve as a positive change agent in  collaboration with others to give  direction.
