General Policies and Procedures

The following rules and regulations governing the use of all recreational facilities at the Student Recreation Centers have been created to provide equal opportunity, safety, and protect the rights of each participant. As a member of the SLCC community, you have a responsibility to understand and abide by these guidelines. To ensure everyone’s safety, Student Recreation Center team members will enforce the usage guidelines and other posted regulations. Failure to abide by these rules and regulations may result in modified or revoked membership privileges as determined by the Manager of the Student Recreation Center.

Participation in Student Recreation is completely voluntary. There are risks and hazards, minor and serious, associated with participation in SLCC recreation activities. Participants voluntarily assume all responsibility and risk of loss, damage, illness, and/or injury to person or property associated with participation in these programs. Student Recreation strongly advises participants to consult with their physician if they have any doubts of their physical ability to safely participate.

SLCC Recreation Centers are a controlled access facility. All entrance and exit must be through the main lobby unless an emergency is present. All facility users are required to have a valid SLCC One Card.This card acts as your membership card. Facility users will be required to swipe their active SLCC ONE CARD through an authorized terminal or pay the daily rate. Information regarding SLCC One Cards can be obtained at the information desk located in the Student Center building, 801.957-4333

Access to SLCC Recreation Centers

SLCC Campus Recreation Areas are a controlled access facilities. Only authorized members, with proper identification, will be permitted through controlled entrances.

Participants may be denied access if identification is not presented.

All entrances and exits for SLCC Campus Recreation Areas must be through the main lobby or main entrance unless an emergency is present.

All members entering the facility are required to gain access using their SLCC issued ID or key tag. Members failing to do so will be required to purchase a day pass or replace the ID/key tag.

Guest Pass Policy

Students, faculty and staff are eligible to purchase 5 guest passes per semester. To use the guest pass the

  • Sponsoring student/faculty or staff must be present with their guest.
  • All guests are required to adhere to the SLCC Student Code of Conduct.
  • Dependents of current students, ages 15 and above, be the guest for students, faculty and staff.
  • Guests 15 – 17 years of age must complete a weight and cardio room orientation before being allowed to use the workout equipment.

Age Restrictions Apply

To participate in SLCC Recreation Facilities, users:

  1. Must be at least 15 years old to use facilities in the strength and fitness rooms and must be accompanied by participating adult.
  2. Must at least 12 years old to use other activity facilities atLAC and must be accompanied by a participant adult.

Dress Code

For personal hygiene, health and safety; the LAC requires approved athletic attire and tops and shorts/pants MUST be worn at all times.

Jeans, khakis, or shorts with embellishments are prohibited on the fitness equipment. Clothing that sends profane, inflammatory, or bigoted messages is also prohibited.

Closed-toe, full back, athletic shoes with non-marking soles are required in all fitness activity spaces during active participation. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring a second pair of clean footwear for their workouts. Dirty, muddy footwear is not permitted.

Lockers

  1. Personal belongings must be kept in lockers.
  2. Lockers are available to be rented out by the semester or year.
  3. Day use lockers are available for use.
  4. Day use lockers must be emptied out on a daily basis or its contents will be taken to the lost & found.
  5. Lockers are available for rental on a first come, first served basis.
  6. Lockers must be cleared out by the given clearance date. Patrons with expiring lockers will be notified in advance.
  7. Items left in expired/day use lockers will be held for no more than 2 weeks then will be taken to the Surplus department.
  8. Patrons must pay $5 to get back items in expired lockers.
  9. The LAC & its staff are not responsible for content left in expired lockers.
  10. The LAC & its staff are not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Alcohol And Drugs

Alcoholic beverages and illegal drugs may not be consumed prior to or while using the facility. Individuals may not use the facility while under the influence of drugs or alcohol

Food And Drink

Food and drinks are not permitted in the activity areas, unless explicitly approved for special events by staff. Beverages in non-glass, spill proof containers are permitted as long as they do not present a trip hazard.

Other Food, beverages, etc. must be consumed on the lobby side of the LAC Front Desk.

Mobile Technology

For the safety and comfort of our members, the use of mobile technology is not permitted in the restrooms or locker room areas.

Members may use mobile technology in other areas of the facility for access to music or phone; however, if disruptive behavior (i.e. talking, singing loudly, etc.) is noticed or reported, the member will be asked to refrain from use of the device.

Patrons’ cell phones may be used to take photos or videos of themselves or friends working out within the facility and must remain for personal use only.

Selfies may not be taken in ways that have the potential to negatively impact the experiences of other patrons, such as within a busy locker room or restroom where others may be in the background. Patrons are expected to follow the Principles of Community and engage the use of selfies with respect for others.

Photography of other guests without their explicit permission is strictly prohibited. Guests taking photos or videos with their cell phone for personal use must not interrupt or cause any nuisance to others.

In the event that Campus Recreation staff suspect a guest is inappropriately using the cell phone privilege or if their engagement in selfies is causing discomfort to others, they will be asked to put their phone away or leave the facility if they continue to violate the policy.

Music Policy

The Campus Recreation staff is responsible for controlling the type of music and volume level for any facility where music is played on a central system.  The music played will be determined based on the general population using the facility and will not interfere with any other university policy or university group that may be in the facility. 

Personal headsets are welcomed in any facility, but the use of phones/radios/portable stereos or speakers will not be permitted.

Security

We encourage our members to only bring necessary items to the Student Recreation Center. Valuables should be left at home and individuals are responsible for securing personal belongings in lockers. Please report any suspicious behavior to any Student Recreation Center team member.

Lost and Found

  • Any items found will be turned into the Recreation Desk where the items will be logged
  • All wallets, jewelry, or any other valuables will be secured in a safe then turned into the SLCC Campus Security
  • All SLCC Card ID’s will be turned into the Card Office, weekly
  • In order for anyone to claim their lost item, they must describe the item in detail and then fill out the claim information in the lost and found log-in book

Injuries

All injuries should be reported immediately to a Campus Recreation Staff member. If a blood-related injury occurs, the injured person must stop activity immediately and notify Campus Recreation Staff.

Equipment Check Out

Sports equipment is available for daily check-out at the welcome desk and must be returned 10 minutes before closing.

If the equipment is damaged or lost, patrons are responsible for paying the assessed value of the equipment. Patrons will not be granted facility access until the fee is paid.

Campus Recreation Staff has the right to prohibit any outside fitness equipment.

Personal Training

Personal trainers, fitness consultants or other non-contracted service providers other than SLCC designated trainers and instructors are NOT permitted to provide services, or solicit and conduct business in the SLCC Recreation Center. Please note any violators will be asked to leave and their access revoked.

Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities

Some restrictions apply to those who are eligible to participate in SLCC Recreation Facilities.

Other Policies and Procedures

No animals are permitted in the facility except for the purpose of assisting or aiding persons with disabilities. Service animals must be properly identified as service animals, such as an identifiable service animal harness.

Patron Conduct

Harassment or disregard of requests by the Campus Recreation Staff may result in immediate ejection from the facility and may result in additional disciplinary action.

Fighting and/or profanity is prohibited.

Firearms are prohibited.

Personal belongings, gym bags, backpacks, etc. are not permitted in hallways, lobbies, or activity areas. Lockers and cubbies are available for storage of all items. Campus Recreation is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items.

Spitting in the drinking fountains, common areas, and activity areas such as the track, courts, etc. is prohibited. Please use trash cans located throughout SLCC Campus Recreation.

No recreational activities are allowed in lobbies or hallways.

Modification of equipment is not permitted.

Moving furniture is prohibited.

Chewing gum is not permitted in the SLCC Campus Recreation Areas. It is a health and safety risk.

Please report any facility or equipment problems or concerns to the SLCC Campus Recreation staff immediately.

Non-Campus Recreation Advertising

Non-Campus Recreation announcements, fliers, posters, etc. must be approved through Campus Recreation. Flyers posted in or on the SLCC Recreation Center without approval will be removed.

Non-Campus Recreation or Academic Class Use of Recreation Areas

Use of the SLCC Campus Recreation Areas for other use besides Recreation or Academically scheduled classes require approval from the Recreation Manager.  Rentals of Facilities should go through the Building Manager with the approval of the Recreation Manager.

Bringing in outside people or groups without prior authorization is strictly prohibited.
