Workers Compensation

Workers Compensation is accident insurance for employees that are injured on the job.  All employees, whether they are full time, part-time or official volunteer, regardless of how long they have worked for the College, qualify for coverage under Workers Compensation.

If an employee is injured on the job, the most important thing is for them to receive appropriate medical attention as soon as possible.  Appropriate medical attention may be first aid at the scene of the accident, at one of the SLCC Health Center’s or if the injury is does not require hospitalization they should be referred to Concentra during regular business hours (M-F 8a-5p), not to an Instacare.  During evening/night/weekend hours, they should go to a listed Workers Compensation preferred provider.  Injuries requiring hospitalization may go to the nearest facility that can treat the type of injury sustained.

It is crucial that we are informed immediately so that we can do an investigation of the circumstances surrounding any workers compensation claim, as well as any student accident or visitor accident.

It is the supervisors responsibility to report the accident to the Office of Risk Management, Annette Palmer, 957-4533 or Nancy Sanchez, 957-4041.  Be prepared to provide information about the details of the accident or injury.  THE REPORT MUST BE MADE WITHIN 24 HOURS OF THE INJURY.

ALL ACCIDENTS MUST BE REPORTED WITH 24 HOURS!

Workers Compensation Fund of Utah Preferred Providers

WCF has established a network of medical facilities and hospitals that provide quality medical care.  If you are injured while on the job, you should obtain appropriate first aid and/or emergency medical treatment as quickly as possible at Concentra Medical Center, first.  If it is not possible to use Concentra, please use one of the other facilities listed. If you choose to receive treatment with a non-PPO facility, you may be responsible for any charges in excess of the PPO rates.  See the WCF web site for a complete list of PPO facilities.

First Report of Injury

Notify your supervisor immediately.  It is the supervisors responsibility to report the accident to the Office of Risk Management  - Annette Palmer, 957-4533 or Nancy Sanchez, 957-4041.  Be prepared to provide information about the details of the accident or injury.  THE REPORT MUST BE MADE WITHIN 24 HOURS OF THE INJURY.

Temporary Transitional Work Assignments

A Temporary Transitional Work Assignment (TTA) is a temporary assignment that restricts the employees activity as per doctor’s orders.  The TTA has a beginning date and an ending date.  The TTA is signed off by the employee, the employee’s supervisor and the Transitional Work Coordinator, either Nancy Sanchez or Rand Webb.

If questions should arise during the TTA regarding specific work activities which the employee may perform, the employee and/or the supervisor should call the transitional work coordinator for clarification.

Compensation Checks

Workers Compensation Fund (WCF) benefit covers 2/3 of the employee’s gross salary AFTER the employee has missed three days of work.  (Benefit starts on day 4.)  The employee must use sick leave or vacation leave for the first three days off due to an injury.  Hourly employees are off without pay.  The employee must use sick leave, vacation leave or leave without pay of doctor’s appointments scheduled during the work day unless appointments cannot be scheduled at any other time.
