*Note: Each course requires a new software download.  RTS© is only IBM compatible but may be used on Mac using Virtual PC.

Each course must be completed within 7 1/2 weeks (first half of term or second half of term.) Student must score 80% or better on assignment(s) and exam(s) and complete the other requirements of the course according to the specifications found in the syllabus.

Certificate of Achievement will be awarded to students who complete the 14 required courses with a grade of 80% or better.  Those who do not wish to pursue a certificate may take individual classes.

No financial aide is available at this time.

Prerequisites may be required.  It is the student's responsibility to examine each course description for details of prerequisite classes.  Those prerequisites must be satisfied before the designated class may be taken.

TRVL 1010 Intro to Hospitality & Travel  2 cr. A 
This course investigates the travel and hospitality industries, addressing theories, planning, and environmental issues. Students will gain a general knowledge of how and why public and private tourism businesses exist.

TRVL 1020 Travel Destinations  2 cr. A
This course overviews the relevancy of geography to tourism and hospitality.  Exploration of destinations around the world will expose their individuality and fascination.

TRVL 1030 Travel Reservations  2 cr. A
Students will gain product knowledge and skills needed to research, plan and book air travel.  Terminology, policies & procedures of airline travel and airline reservations will be discussed.

TRVL 1040 Automated Air Reservations  3 cr. A
Students will practice booking, maintaining, changing and canceling air reservations using TRS© hands-on Computer Reservation System, simulation of Sabre®, in conjunction with the online tutorial.

TRVL 1050 Travel Sales and Trends  2 cr. A
Students will study sales techniques including telephone business manners, listening skills and tools for targeting the traveler.  Web trends in the industry will also be discussed

TRVL 1060 Air Fares US Domestic  2 cr. A
Prereq: Recommend concurrent w/TRVL 1040
This course presents the basics of air fares including terms, codes, fare construction principles and fare applicatin rules necessary to find, interpret and apply the lowest applicable fares for clients.

TRVL 1070 ARC Documents  1 cr. A
Prereq: Recommend concurrent w/TRVL 1040
This is an introductory course to ticketing. Various ticketing types, forms, policies/procedures per Airline Reporting Corporation (ARC), forms of payment, refunds and exchanges will be discussed.

TRVL 1080 Automated Air Fares & Tickets  2 cr. A
Prereq: Recommend concurrent w/TRVL 1040
This course will introduce students to finding the lowest fares for clients utilizing the RTS© hands-on Computer Reservation System, simulation of Sabre®, in conjunction w/ the online tutorial.

TRVL 1090 Ground Transportation  2 cr. A
This course will introduce students to the basics of car rental policies & procedures, codes, pricing & distribution, and rail travel including Amtrak, VIA Rail, BritRail/Eurail & train accommodations, services & fare structure.

TRVL 2010 Hotels & Lodging  1 cr. A
This course will cover the fundamentals of the hotel product, rate structure, property & room classifications, codes, published/automated resources and non-automated reservation procedures & the variables that affect prices.

TRVL 2015 Automated Trvl Accommodations  1 cr. A
Prereq: TRVL 1040, TRVL 1080
Students will practice selecting, booking, maintaining, changing and canceling car rental & hotel room reservations using the RTS© hands-on Computer Reservation System (CRS), simulation of Sabre®, in conjunction w/ the online tutorial.

TRVL 2020 The Cruise Market  2 cr. A
This course overviews the basics of cruises including classifications, destinations, types of cruises, and non-automated reservation procedures.  Students will gain knowledge of how to book the right cruise for any client.

TRVL 2030 Selling Vacation Pkgs & Tours  2 cr. A
This course overviews the basics of tour including components of tours, tour destinations, types of vacation packages, print & electronic resources, non-automated tour booking procedures & function of tour operator/wholesaler.

TRVL 2040 Fares & Tickets International  1 cr. A
This course introduces students to international air travelers including two basic int'l faring systems, mileage/routing & currency procedures, int'l fare basis codes, base fares, taxes & surcharges.
