Dental Hygiene

A dental hygienist is a licensed oral health professional who promotes optimum oral health by providing education and therapeutic services to adults and children. A career in Dental Hygiene may provide an entry into a variety of professional opportunities including: clinician, educator, administrator, public health worker, government worker, researcher or international health care provider.

Students receive affordable and comprehensive quality education taught by expert health care providers with advanced degrees. Faculty holding Doctoral, Master, or Bachelor degrees teach small class sizes that allows students to engage in educational experiences through individual attention and peer collaboration.  Registered dental hygienists and dentists supervise student clinic experiences in an innovative, modern on-site dental hygiene clinic equipped with current technology.

Salt Lake Community College holds institutional accreditation by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU), a regional accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and maintains programmatic accreditation by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation.  The college is affiliated with other academic institutions within the state of Utah.  Students graduating from the dental hygiene program at Salt Lake Community College have the opportunity to pursue a bachelors degree by transferring their academic credits to any of the four-year institutions affiliated with the Utah System of Higher Education.
