Join us in celebrating Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Week which will be celebrated from September 14 to 20, 2026.
It is a week full of opportunities to recognize the contributions HSI's have made to enrich the educational experience among students. SLCC, as one of the only two HSI's in the State of Utah, has played a crucial role in providing accessible educational opportunities for Hispanic and low-income students, fostering diverse learning environments, and enhancing the college experience for all students.
Director of HSI, Kino Hurtado, says "HSI status is not a title we carry. It's a promise we keep. A promise to adapt our institution to meet the strengths, aspirations, and realities of our students. During HSI Week, we celebrate not only who we are today, but who we continue striving to become: an institution where every student is seen, valued, and empowered to succeed."
The HSI designation for an institution is not only dedicated to Hispanic populations but also creates a broad atmosphere that benefits all students, faculty, and staff. By embracing the HSI designation, SLCC encourages collaboration to prepare students for a dynamic workforce that reflects our global society.
As part of an HSI, our institution has access to a range of funding sources and partnerships that help enrich the academic landscape for our students. As we celebrate HSI Week, let us acknowledge the positive impact SLCC has on personal and professional development, and commit to fostering an environment where every Bruin student can thrive and succeed.
