Community Writing Center

Join our community writing program which offers multiple, on-going writing groups throughout the Salt Lake metropolitan area. No matter your experience or interests, the DiverseCity Writing Series (DWS) provides an inviting setting to write. Find inspiration through feedback and writing prompts. Biannually, submit work to sine cera, the DWS anthology, and participate in a public reading. Choose from open-interest or specialized writing groups which meet at locations throughout the city. Whether a beginner or an experienced writer, you’ll find a place in the DiverseCity Writing Series.

DWS writing groups are supported by volunteer mentors and meet twice a month throughout the year. Within these groups, participants share and discuss their writing and generate new writing ideas. Some groups are open to the public, while others are associated with local organizations.

Public Groups

The following DWS Groups are open to the public, but are limited to 8 writers per group. Prior to attending a DWS Group, please contact the DiverseCity Writing Series coordinator to make sure there is space in the group. The DWS coordinator can be reached at (801) 957-4992 or cwc@slcc.edu.

The Columbus Library Group

The Columbus Library Group meets at Salt Lake County's Columbus Library. 500 East 2530 South, South Salt Lake City.

The CWC Writing Group

The CWC Group meets at the SLCC Community Writing Center. Library Square Plaza, 210 East 400 South, Salt Lake City.

Environmental Group

The Environmental Group shares a concern for environmental issues and meets at Salt Lake City's Main City Library in the browsing section behind Salt Lake Roasting Company. 210 East 400 South, Salt Lake City.

Kings English Group

The Kings English Group meets at the King's English Bookshop. 1511 South, 1500 East, Salt Lake City.

GLBTQ Group

The GLBTQ Group shares a concern for GLBTQ issues and meets at the SLCC Community Writing Center. Library Square Plaza, 210 East 400 South, Salt Lake City.

Palinka Group

The Palinka Group meets at Salt Lake City's Main Library in the 3rd Floor Conference Room. 210 East 400 South, Salt Lake City.

Write Handed Teen Group

The Write Handed Teen Group meets at the Sorensen Unity Center's Computer Clubhouse at 1383 S. California Ave. (900 West).
