Student Affairs Reorganization Strengthens Student Support and Success

SLCC’s Division of Student Affairs is implementing a new organizational structure designed to improve how students connect with services, navigate college, and achieve their educational goals. The reorganization supports the college’s Ideal Student Learning and Experience (ISLE) and ongoing advising redesign efforts by bringing related student support services together and creating clearer pathways for students from enrollment through completion and beyond.

“This reorganization is ultimately about students,” said Brenda Madore, vice president for Student Affairs. “We’re creating a structure that better aligns our services, strengthens collaboration across teams and helps students access the support they need at every stage of their journey.”

Creating a More Connected Student Experience

The reorganization is designed around how students experience the college rather than around individual departments. Under the new structure, Student Affairs will be organized around four major areas:

Enrollment Management

Led by Ryan Farley, associate vice president of Enrollment Management, this area includes Admissions, Financial Aid & Scholarships, Registrar & Academic Records, Veterans Services, Onboarding & Navigation, and International Student Services.

Student Success

Led by Dr. Kathie Campbell, associate vice president of Student Success, this area brings together Academic Success Coaching, Career Services, Accessibility & Disability Services, Systems & Data (MySuccess) and the Care Team. The goal is to better connect academic support, career preparation, and student success resources.

K-12 Partnerships and Special Programming

A new associate vice president position will oversee Concurrent Enrollment, TRIO programs, PACE, Bruin Scholars and Summer Bridge initiatives, creating stronger alignment among programs that help students prepare for and transition into college.

Student Support

Under Dr. Candida Mumford, dean of students, the division brings together Student Support, Student Conduct & Accountability, Health & Counseling Services, Child Care & Family Services, and the Thayne Center, which oversees student leadership. Together, these areas provide more coordinated support for holistic student well-being.

A New Student Journey Framework

One of the most significant changes is the introduction of a new student journey model built around three connected levels of support.

Navigator → Success Coach → Care Team

Under this framework, students will have clearer pathways to assistance depending on their needs.

New Navigator roles will serve as a key entry point for students, helping them connect to services, understand college processes, and access support resources early in their academic experience. Navigation teams will work alongside Academic Success Coaches and specialized support services to help students stay on track and quickly connect them with the appropriate resources when challenges arise.

The model is intended to strengthen coordination between onboarding, advising, academic support, career preparation, and intervention services, reducing barriers for students seeking help.

New and Realigned Positions

The approved structure includes several new, reallocated positions and organizational realignments, including:

A new Assistant Dean of Students for Student Conduct and Accountability.

Reallocated Navigator leadership positions serving regional student populations.

A new Director of Academic Advising position.

Reallocation of a Senior Director for Navigation, Systems & Data to oversee MySuccess and student navigation systems.

Looking Ahead

Implementation of the new structure will occur in phases through fall 2027, with regular updates provided to faculty and staff. Future communications will focus on advising, onboarding, retention, transfer support, career readiness and other elements of the student experience as implementation progresses.

The reorganization reflects Student Affairs’ commitment to the college’s vision in helping students enroll, navigate college successfully, complete their educational goals, and prepare for meaningful careers or transfer opportunities.

“We know organizational change can bring questions and uncertainty,” Madore said. “Our focus is on communicating openly, supporting employees throughout the transition and ensuring our students continue to receive the high-quality services they depend on.”
