Program Overview

Salt Lake Tech's Information Technology Program provides hands-on training, group & individual discussions, experience with real industry devices, and practical training. All are key components in preparing to obtain industry certifications. Students seeking entry into Information Technology employment benefit from CompTIA's A+, Network+ & Security+ industry certifications.

What you will learn

FAQ

Do I need special IT equipment?

No. If you don't have a computer at home, you can study on campus. Most courses only require access to a desktop or laptop with Zoom and a reliable internet connection.

What happens when I come to campus?

At the Taylorsville TB-415/418 IT classrooms, you can work with instructors and classmates, ask questions, complete skill-building activities, and work hands-on with IT equipment including PCs, laptops, routers, switches, servers, Wi-Fi equipment and more.

When does my class meet?

Attend Orientation on the first day of the term at 8 AM, 1 PM, or 6 PM. You'll choose a cohort time (your main lab schedule).

Cohort 1: 8 AM-12 PM (M-F)

Cohort 2: 12 PM - 4 PM (M-F)

Cohort 3: 4 PM-9 PM (M-Th), 4 PM-6 PM (F)

Come at least once each week; additional days/hours are flexible.

Which classes should I enroll in first?

All new students should start with TEIT 1100: Intro to Networking and TEIT 1200: CompTIA A+ Core 1.

How long does the IT program take?

Full-time: About 2 semesters (10 credits, ~24 study hrs/week).

Part-time: About 3-4 semesters (5-7 credits, 8-16 study hrs/week).

In-person lab expectations range from 4-12+ hours per week, depending on credit load.

Complete your admissions application. Once you receive your student number (S#), meet with an Advisor.

STEP 2: The Information Technology Program has rolling admissions; check start dates with your Advisor, Jewly Harris, (801)957-3905, jewly.harris@slcc.edu. Jewly will discuss Full-time vs Part-time commitments as you create your beginning Graduation Map and enroll in classes.
