Program Overview
This 150-hour certificate is offered through six courses covering topics in electronics, industrial controls, and electrical assembly. These skills-based classes are made up of lecture and lab components. By the end of this program, students will be able to: demonstrate effective electrical and shop safety including PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) use; follow safety procedures, and lock-out tag-out protocol; measure AC & DC voltages and currents, and explain fundamental electrical principles; design, document, and construct industrial controls systems that integrate a VFD, HMI, and motors with a PLC using Allen Bradley Studio 5000 and Factory Talk programs; interpret documents and prints describing various industrial control circuits;, and solder simple circuits and build simple cables. Successful completion of the six courses listed below meets the requirements to earn the PLC and VFD Systems Technician Certificate.
What you will learn
- Master fundamental electrical principles, safety procedures, PPE, and Lock-Out Tag-Out practices
- Build and document relay-based seal-in circuits using ladder logic, PLC, and HMI environments
- Program PLC and HMI controls using Allen-Bradley Studio 5000 and Factory Talk software
- Wire, test, and configure motor control circuits and VFD operation with Allen-Bradley hardware
- Design and integrate complete PLC, HMI, and VFD systems using industrial control documentation and interfaces
Certification
Upon successful completion of all courses in the Basic Computer Skills program, students will receive:
- Introduction to Web Development Workforce Microcredential.

Funding Sources
Utah residents who have lived in the state for at least 12 months may qualify for Short Term Intensive Training (STIT) funding, which covers up to 50% of tuition costs for this program.

- Funding is based on Utah residency of a minimum of 12 months.
