High School Counselors
The Counselor's Role in SLCC Academic Planning
The counselors role in the concurrent enrollment advising process is very minimal and we only ask counselors to do the things SLCC cannot.
RESPONSIBLITY 1
Review MyCE academic plans submitted by your students
- When you review a MyCE academic plan, you are NOT looking to see if the student is on target for college graduation. What you ARE doing as a counselor is spot checking to make sure a student hasn't planned anything that might conflict with their high school graduation requirements or that might limit their ability to take that class when they plan to take it.
- For example, if a student added ENGL 1010 to their sophomore year that would be a problem because they must have completed Language Arts 11 before taking ENGL 1010.

RESPONSIBILITY 2
Collaborate with your CE Coordinator and the SLCC CE Advising Coordinator
- There is no way SLCC can effectively guide students through the process of selecting the right CE classes for their college and career goals without the support of the counselors and CE coordinator. To do that SLCC has assigned an Advising Coordinator to your school. This individual will schedule meetings with your counseling team and your CE coordinator to brainstorm ideas to move the work of academic planning at your school.
