SLCC Student Gardens

SLCC Student Gardens are here to provide space for our students, faculty, and staff to practice sustainable gardening and empower them to grow their own fresh produce.
We believe that all people are entitled to healthy, fresh food regardless of socioeconomic status and other personal circumstances. Increasing access to this food is key to enabling people to thrive as they reach for their dreams.
We see the gardens as an opportunity to create a community around a common interest and bring people together in a relaxing and unique space.
Rent A Garden Plot
Students, faculty, and staff are welcome to rent a garden plot at one of our three community garden locations. Rent a plot for yourself, a club, or a department. Garden plots are rented out for the entire growing season, May - October. The garden plots are supplementally irrigated, and we provide the tools you will need. You plant, maintain, and harvest whatever crops you'd like. The produce is yours to keep or you are welcome to donate your produce to the Bruin Pantry.
Rental Agreement:
On behalf of myself, my guests, and my organization, I agree to follow the following rules:
— I understand that gardening requires weekly attention throughout the growing season.
— I will plant in my plot early in the growing season and will maintain my plot and the surrounding areas until the end of the harvest season. This includes controlling weeds within and around my plot, ensuring that my plants do not overflow into other plots, and removing any trash or litter from my plot and the surrounding area.
— I will pick my crops before they are overripe to prevent them from spoiling in my plot. I understand that if I regularly leave overripe crops in my plot, they will be picked by garden staff and donated to the food pantry.
— I understand that if my plot appears to be abandoned due to lack of plants or improper care I will be notified and asked to clean it up. I understand that failure to do so within a reasonable timeframe will result in the loss of my plot.
— If for any reason I need to abandon my plot mid-season, I will notify gardens staff as soon as possible prior to my abandonment.
— I will not use fertilizers, insecticides, or weed repellents that do not comply with organic standards or will in any way affect other plots.
— I will clean any tools or equipment after I use them. I will return tools to where I found them and keep the sheds organized.
— I will not pick plants from plots other than my own without permission from the plot’s renter.
— I will participate in the fall cleanup of the garden and will winterize my plot. Instructions on how to do so will be provided at the end of the growing season.
— I will attend all mandatory meetings and events or will notify gardens staff if I am unable to make them.
Failure to comply may result in me or my organization being denied access to the gardens without refund, being barred from participating in future gardening activities, and/or losing eligibility to rent or participate during future gardening seasons.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns regarding this agreement, please email the Student Garden Coordinator at rhunsa20@slcc.edu.
