Reader/Scribe Agreement

Accommodation for a Reader/Scribe:

The use of a Reader/Scribe is an accommodation based on documentation of a disability. This accommodation will not alter the fundamental components of the course and the student will be held to the same academic standard as the other students.

A scribe writes down a student's dictated information. A reader will read information to the student. This accommodation is not a personal aide and is not responsible for any duties outside of reading/scribing in-class materials.

If the student is more than 15 minutes late to class, the Reader/Scribe will leave the classroom. If a student misses three total classes, the Reader/Scribe accommodation will temporarily be suspended. The student will receive an email from ADS if this occurs. The student must contact their ADS advisor to resume the reader/scribe accommodation.

The Expectations of the Scribe and the Student:

The scribe can read back answers to the student if requested.

The scribe is responsible for basic spelling unless spelling is a requirement, then the student will dictate spelling of words or phrases to meet course requirements.

It is the student's responsibility to ask the scribe to read what has been written down. If you cannot read your scribe's writing, you can ask for the information to be read aloud.

It is the student's responsibility to describe diagrams, direct the scribe in formatting the information, clarify spelling, symbols and terminology, and dictate answers clearly.

The reader/scribe is not permitted to participate in class discussions.

The Expectations of the Reader and the Student:

The reader may only read what the student asks to be read.

The reader may read aloud information as many times as needed.
