Bruin Scholars - PACE Scholarship

Welcome to Salt Lake Community College, we are excited to have you join the Bruin Scholars program. You have worked hard for the last four (4) years while attending high school and participating in the High School PACE Scholarship Program. This is where all your hard work now pays off! Once you begin your first semester at Salt Lake Community College, you automatically become a Bruin Scholar who has the PACE scholarship. You will have the support of the entire Bruin Scholars team to continue to build upon the amazing work you started in high school. Below are some details you’ll want to know to be able to continue maintaining your scholarship. Welcome!

Your first-year at Salt Lake Community College

  • Register for a minimum of 9 credits in fall, spring, and summer semester OR 12 credits in fall and spring semesters for a total of 24 credits for the entire year.
  • Meet with your Coordinator at the beginning of the semester and during midterms.
  • Attend two (2) Bruin Scholar sponsored events.

Your second year through to Graduation at Salt Lake Community College

  • Register for a minimum of 9 credits in fall, spring, and summer semester OR 12 credits in fall and spring semesters.
  • Meet with your Coordinator as directed by your Coordinator
  • Begin attending the Career Series
  • Begin attending the Transfer Series
  • Attend two (2) Bruin Scholars sponsored events

Semester before Graduation

  • Apply for graduation
  • Meet with your Coordinator
  • Attend the Career Series
  • Attend the Transfer Series
  • Inform your Coordinator you are graduating and your plans after
  • Attend the end of year Bruin Scholars Graduation Celebration

 

Your Scholarship Requirements

Academic Performance Requirement

  • Students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.
  • Students who fall below a 2.0 cumulative GPA will lose the PACE scholarship but can work with their Bruin Scholars Coordinator for further assistance.

Semester Requirements to stay in good standing for the scholarship

  • Attend two Bruin Scholars Events
  • You’re first year meet with your Coordinator for SMART goals and Midterm meetings
  • After your first year continue to connect with your coordinator as outlined by your coordinator

Scholarship Duration and Credit Structure

  • The PACE Scholarship is designed to be used across three (2) Academic Years (AY), defined as:
    • Summer, Fall, and Spring = 1 Academic Year
  • Within 1 Academic Year students are required to register and complete 24 credit hours.
  • Scholarship usage must occur over consecutive semesters beginning the fall semester immediately following the student’s high school graduation.

Enrollment Requirements and Restrictions

  • Students must maintain continuous enrollment in consecutive semesters (fall and spring).
  • Gap semesters/years are not permitted.
  • Students may not defer use of the scholarship to:
    • Accept another scholarship first
    • Delay enrollment for personal or elective reasons
  • Guest students are not eligible to use the PACE Scholarship.

Deferment Policy

  • Scholarship deferment is strictly limited and only available to:
    • Students transitioning directly from high school to college, and entering:
      • Active military service, or
      • Recognized religious service
  • Approved deferments may last up to 2.5 Academic Years.
  • Deferments exceeding this timeframe are not permitted.
  • Students must enroll immediately upon completion of their approved service.
