Acting as a family spokesperson, Sonny Olsen, a Price attorney, read a two-page statement from the families of the 6 Crandall Canyon trapped miners to members of the news media near the Desert Edge Christian Chapel. The families denounced the procedures and slow rescue efforts of Murray Energy Corporation. "We feel that they have given up," read Olsen.
The bodies of the miners were never recovered and they were declared dead.
