Tom Green became the first Utah polygamist in almost half a century to be convicted of bigamy. Leah Hogsten documented the family's life before Tom went on trial for bigamy. He received a five year sentence.
Tom Green hands the decision making powers to his eldest son, Mel, through confirmation into the patriarchal priesthood in the event that Green does not return to the family. Mel's mother Linda Kunz assists Tom in the confirmation of Mel while Mel's brother John tape records the ceremony. Green confirmed four other sons into the priesthood. Chris Green became a high priest and his three brothers, Bill, John and Hyrum Green became priests in a ceremony just for the wives and their five sons.
