Academic & Advising Support

Advising and Degree Planning

  • Schedule a meeting with your academic advisor to create a degree roadmap tailored to your emphasis: Fashion Design, Merchandising, or Technical Design.
  • Graduation maps are available for each track to assist you in remaining on course.

Articulation Pathway to USU

For students pursuing the Technical Design Emphasis at Salt Lake Community College, please note the following steps:

  • Engage in the 2+2 Agreement with Utah State University (USU) for the Outdoor Product Design and Development (OPDD) program.
  • Complete your Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree at SLCC in Technical Apparel Design.
  • Apply for admission to USU's Bachelor of Science program in OPDD.
  • Submit a design portfolio in the spring prior to your intended transfer in the fall semester.

Hands-On Experience to Advance Your Career in Fashion:

  • Fashion Internship (FASH 2000)
  • A 3-credit internship opportunity available for all emphasis areas.
  • Collaborate with local businesses such as Albion Fit, Bohme, and the Utah Opera.

  • Visual Merchandiser
  • Assistant Costume Designer
  • Bridal/Alterations Assistant
  • Social Media Coordinator for Boutiques

Internships

Contests & Design Showcases

  • Open to all students—submit your final collections or merchandising campaigns.
  • Gain experience by showcasing your designs or assisting professionals backstage. A valuable opportunity for networking and building your portfolio.
  • After transferring to Utah State University, take part in design innovation and sustainability competitions through the OPDD (Outdoor Product Design & Development) program.
