Microscopy and Nanotechnology at Salt Lake Community College offers a two-year certification program outlining the fundamentals of micro- and nanofabrication, providing students the opportunity for hands-on experiences preparing them for a career.

Certificate of Proficiency - Microscopy

SLCC offers a microscopy Certificate of Proficiency Program that provide students with an opportunity to acquire proficiency in several nano and microscale characterization techniques. Characterization techniques include atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Students also receive training in the use of specialized optical microscopy techniques. This program prepares students to work in a variety of fields including but not limited to semiconductors, material science, metallurgy, and manufacturing. This program allows students to gain an understanding of the operational fundamentals associated with characterization techniques through lecture, labs, and internship/co-op experiences.

Certificate of Proficiency - Nanotechnology

SLCC offers a Nanotechnology Certificate of Proficiency Program that provides students with skills in basic micro- and nanofabrication procedures used to create a wide variety of nanomaterials. The Nanotechnology Certificate prepares students to work in a variety of fields including but not limited to semiconductors, material science, metallurgy, engineering, environmental studies, medicine, manufacturing, and nanotechnology. Students become familiar with the best safety and environmental practices used in nanofabrication laboratories, will acquire an understanding of the operational fundamentals of micro- and nanofabrication instrumentation, and gain experience using the equipment through an internship and co-op experience.
