Biography:

Katie Demong is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Salt Lake Community College. Before coming to SLCC, she was a graduate teaching assistant at Colorado State University where her research primarily focused on public housing in New York City. Born and raised in New York, Katie completed her undergraduate work at Columbia University and graduated magna cum laude with departmental honors in Sociology. After graduation, she completed training at the James Satterwhite Academy and worked as a caseworker investigating child abuse and neglect in West and Central Harlem for the City of New York. Before college, Katie competed around the globe for the United States as a member of the National Skeleton Team.

Bio:

Deidre Tyler is a professor of Sociology in the department of sociology. She joined the faculty at Salt Lake Community College in 1992. Deidre worked as a child abuse investigator for 5 years before entering graduate school. She completed special training for social workers at the Mississippi Department Police Academy. Dr. Tyler is a licensed social worker in the state of Utah. She is also an Instructional Technologist with a MED degree in Instructional Technology. In 2005 she received the distinguished faculty lecture award and in 2017 she was awarded the Teaching Excellence Award.
