Once a student has enrolled into the NSLS, they are considered a member with access to certain benefits. In order to become an inducted member, a student must complete the following steps:

  1. Orientation: This is the first event on campus for new members to learn the steps of the program and the schedule of events for the term.
  2. Leadership Training Day: Members attend an interactive video training session where they identify goals and overcome obstacles.
  3. Three Speaker Broadcast Events: Live streamed events with leaders, celebrities and best-selling authors are scheduled six times per academic year.
  4. Three Consecutive Success Networking Team Meetings: Peer to Peer Accountability and Goal Setting sessions with other members.

All SLCC NSLS events will be held in the new live on-line format. This will afford our members to attend all of the events that lead towards induction virtually from the safety of where ever they choose to attend. These events will have a scheduled start and end time and members will be expected to attend the full event to receive credit towards attendance. We have committed to offering multiple times and dates to meet the requirements. Please check the events calendar when you log into your NSLS account for more information regarding dates and times of events.

The steps towards induction take approximately 10-12 hours. While most members do finish their steps towards induction in a single semester, a member may take longer if needed.

Invitations are sent one or two times per academic year. Once invited, that student’s invitation remains active throughout their time at the campus. Students who do not receive a formal invitation may apply online through a nomination process, wherein faculty recommendation and brief personal statements are required. See more information about this process.

The NSLS was the first organization of its kind to become accredited as a leadership development program and honor society by AdvancED, the parent organization to (1) Northwest Accredited Commission (NWAC); (2) North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI); and (3) Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI).

Our educational program extends into an optional credit pathway for students who are eligible to earn credit when they engage with our program, and schools and campuses offer reciprocity of this credit. Credit options are provided for all educational programming from the NSLS (i.e. Foundations of Leadership, Advanced and Executive Certifications). To earn each credit, students will complete additional educational programming beyond the requirements of each of the certifications, which will earn them up to 1.0 credit per program. This pathway will be available to students at an additional cost, however, students are always welcome to pursue the certificate pathway.
