Community Engagement

Community Engagement programming within the Thayne Center connects students to meaningful service opportunities that prepare them to serve and lead within their communities. Through experiences such as monthly service projects, students engage in hands-on service with local organizations, while large-scale Days of Service bring the campus together to address community needs and empower students to be civically engaged. We offer immersive Alternative Break experiences focused on social issues where students can see the direct impact of their efforts. Students can deepen their understanding of belonging and sustainability through participation in our student community gardens. Through reflection and meaningful dialogue, students will learn to build self-awareness and take steps to create actions to impact the community. These programs provide a pathway for students to grow as engaged leaders while supporting Salt Lake Community College’s mission of student success, civic responsibility, and connection, and reflecting the Thayne Center’s commitment to leadership, learning, and positive social impact.
