Military Experience
SLCC was founded to serve veterans. Our first 145 students were all veterans, taking advantage of the new GI bill. While our name and program offerings have changed, our commitment to our veteran students has not. Whether you’re bringing in your DD214, training documented on your JST, or coursework from the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) or Air University (AU), we’d love to help you get your experience lined up to SLCC courses and get you on your way faster.
If you’re curious about how you can use your VA benefits for your time here at SLCC, talk to Veterans Services. They’ll help you navigate the forms and answer any questions you may have about the process. If you’re going to use your VA benefits here at SLCC, make sure you talk to an advisor or Veterans Services before you start the CPL process, as credit awarded via CPL can impact your benefits. You’ll need to determine whether your military work applies to your program requirements, whether there will be any financial aid implications, and any other factors that may impact your ability to attain your educational goals.
Depending on which branch of the military you served in and what you learned during your service, you’ll either have a DD214, a JST, or a transcript from the CCAF or AU. Each document has its own processes.
DD214
DD214s can be used to fulfill the LW requirement of your degree. We will need the member 4 copy of the DD214 to process credit. For any additional credit, send in your JST.
JST
We need official JSTs to process any credit awards. Those can be sent to us via the JST DODED military website. There is a 2-3 business day turnaround time for those to arrive at SLCC. Depending on what is on your JST, and what your degree program is, we may be able to award SLCC credit for your experience. Your experience must be evaluated by the department that carries the course, and we may ask you for additional information to support what is listed on your JST.
CCAF/AU transcript
CCAF or AU transcripts can be sent to us from the Air University’s website, and those are processed through our Transcript Evaluation Office. Once you’ve sent your transcript to SLCC, fill out the Transcript Evaluation form to have your coursework evaluated and brought in.
