Curriculum Process

The purpose of the Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) curriculum process is to ensure that all educational curriculum is thoroughly reviewed, vetted, and approved through all proper channels, so that SLCC can support students in pursuing educational pathways leading to successful transfer and meaningful employment.

As such, the Curriculum Office strongly suggests submitting program proposals as early as possible in the curriculum cycle.

Curriculum decisions also include other stakeholders including SLCC staff and administrators, employers, transfer institutions, and community members. In addition, the implementation of curriculum involves institutional and community resources that can include time, facilities, finances, equipment, and personnel.

Curriculum Workflow

The curriculum process is a multi-step workflow consisting of various levels of internal and external review. This includes SLCC curriculum committees such as the General Education Committee, Senate Curriculum Committee, and Faculty Senate; as well as final approval by the SLCC Cabinet and Board of Trustees, and notification to the Utah Board of Higher Education and the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.

Curriculum Timeline

The Curriculum Timeline lists the AY 25-26 Meeting Schedules for SLCC curriculum committees as well as the general range of time that a review period may take for an approval body. Please note that for the SLCC curriculum committees, the deadline is the date in which the curriculum proposal needs to arrive at the committee step in the workflow to be on the agenda for the associated meeting date.

Program proposals can take a significant amount of time to complete the curriculum workflow. As such, the Curriculum Office strongly suggests submitting any program proposals as earlier as possible in the curriculum cycle.

Curriculum Management System

Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) utilizes the Curriculum Management System (CMS) Modern Campus Curriculum, to support the curriculum workflow. Specific forms and approval processes, based on the proposal action, provide transparency and accountability to the processes, engage stakeholders from concept to catalog, and integrate with the Academic Catalog.

More information about the curriculum process may be found at the Curriculum SharePoint Site.

The Program Proposal Guide was designed to aid individuals to determine the specific process and required documentation for program proposals through a series of yes and no questions.
