The SLCC P.R. McIntyre Antique Electronics Collection consists of over 850 pieces of vintage electronic equipment. The collection is mainly radios made between 1915 and 1950, but also includes examples of other electronic equipment and accessories such as phonographs, television sets, wire and tape recorders, headphones, speakers, microphones, dictaphones, and media.
The collection was accumulated by P.R. McIntyre during the course of his employment with KSL Radio from the 1920's to the 1950's and from equipment that he obtained from customers of his radio sales and service shop, Mac's Radios.
The McIntyre Collection was originally donated by the family of P.R. McIntyre to KSL Radio after his death. Lacking sufficient space to store or exhibit the large collection, KSL Radio donated it to Brigham Young University (BYU). BYU was also unable to display or permanently store the collection and in 2007 signed a letter of intent with Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) to transfer the collection here.
Today's display, consisting of 30 pieces, represents only about 3.5% of the total collection. It is the first of a planned series of rotating exhibits that will eventually make all of the McIntyre Collection available for public viewing at SLCC.
