Submit your proposal for the Health & Fitness Conference
How to Submit
To present at the SLCC 2nd Annual Health & Fitness Conference, you must apply by submitting your abstract on the online submission form.
Abstract samples can be easily found online, especially in your profession's peer reviewed journals, but here are three abstracts examples to look at:
Topic: Engagement Strategies for Client Success
Presenter: Joli Johanson
Description: Learn motivational techniques and tips on how to help people make health-promoting personal behavior changes. Stages of change, appropriate processing of the change, and choosing strategies that will facilitate the change process will be discussed. Understanding client’s preferred learning and personality styles to better know what is needed for change will be addressed. Critical thinking and problem solving when needs arise and to help maintain intrinsic motivation will also be covered.Topic: Injury and Altered Motor Control
Presenter: Chad Harbaugh
Description: Learn how to assess possible dysfunctional movement patterns. Dysfunctional motor control and the effects of inflammation, breathing, and myofascial lines effect movement will also be discussed along with how chronic conditions result in dysfunctional movement patterns.Topic: Bodyweight Training
Presenter: Juan Aponte
Description: Bodyweight (callisthenic) training is a very versatile form of strength training. It can serve as a supplement to or an alternative to using free weights or machines for increasing muscular strength. Bodyweight exercise alternatives to free weight exercises will be presented. Exercise progressions and regressions will also be taught and demonstrated. Attendees should come prepared to actively participate.

- Symposium: you will present approximately 30 min on a topic with a group of peers presenting in a similar track
- Lecture: you will present approximately 50 min on topic of discipline
- Hands-On demonstration Workshop: present for approximately 50 min in a hands on interactive way to teach and practice new modalities/skills
- Abstract
- Enter a description of your project in the online submission. Your abstract should briefly (200-300 words) outline your project’s purpose and provide a description of any research, methods and outcomes relevant to your work. Highlight contributions of your work to your research or to other professionals in your field.
Selection Criteria
Submissions will be evaluated based on the participants' abilities to provide an abstract that includes the above information and upon the potential merit and coherence of the abstract. Submissions with incomplete abstracts (those which do not contain all the criteria above) are subject to rejection without review.
Submissions and abstracts will be reviewed on an ongoing basis. Response to the submissions will depend upon the number of submissions received and may take several weeks or longer. Responses to submissions will indicate whether the submission has been accepted and provide further instruction regarding the submission of the proposed entry.
Your participation in the SLCC Health & Fitness Conference depends upon whether the SLCC Health & Fitness Conference selection committee approves your submission.
