NEW TEACHER TRAINING

When a new concurrent enrollment instructor begins teaching for SLCC, that teacher is required to complete the online New CE Instructor Training available on the SLCC CE website, and course content training coordinated through the SLCC academic department. New teachers are required to complete both of these trainings so that they are prepared to teach the SLCC curriculum according to the SLCC academic department standard, and deliver a college experience in their classroom. Instructors are paid $25/hour for attending or viewing these trainings.

Annual Discipline-Specific training

Salt Lake Community College and National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP) standards require CE instructors to attend discipline-specific professional development each year. The SLCC Concurrent Enrollment Department requires at least one, but not more than four hours of college-sponsored or college-approved, discipline-specific professional development.

College-sponsored means that the training is sponsored by the SLCC academic department or the SLCC CE Department and delivered by a SLCC faculty or staff, generally on a SLCC campus. College-approved means that the liaison or SLCC CE Department has approved the instructor attending an external event to count toward the one-hour requirement for either discipline specific training or general CE training.

Instructors and high school staff who are not otherwise being paid by the high school or district to attend, are paid $25/hour, by the CE Department for attending college-sponsored professional development up to four hours. Other college-approved professional development opportunities will satisfy the one-hour requirement, but teachers will not be paid.

The SLCC CE Department and SLCC academic department, through the liaison, will notify instructors of professional development opportunities, and track teacher attendance. Instructors who attend college-approved professional development will need to notify the CE Department and provide a copy of the program or agenda. Instructors who fail to complete their professional development requirement for more than one year will not be approved to teach concurrent enrollment.
