International Student Employment
International students are responsible for knowing, understanding, and complying with all regulations pertaining to their visa classification. It is essential that students remain informed about employment restrictions and authorization requirements, as failure to comply may result in the loss of legal status.
Employment opportunities for international students are limited, and students should be aware that they will be competing with the broader student population for available positions.
Students on the F-1 Student Visa who are in compliance with the terms of their visa classification and maintaining a full course of study may obtain a letter of permission from International Student Services (ISS) to accept on-campus employment.
Off-campus employment may be available to eligible students through Curricular Practical Training (CPT) or Optional Practical Training (OPT).
- Employment is limited to no more than 20 hours per week while school is in session, and the student must maintain a cumulative GPA of a 2.0 or better.
- More hours may be worked during the summer vacation and official school breaks, provided that work hours and funding are available.
- Students must receive proper authorization from ISS before accepting any employment.
- If a student is not compliant with the terms of their F-1 Student Visa, they must immediately discontinue all employment.
