Language Tutoring

All SLCC students, faculty and staff are welcome to practice their language skills with our tutors. Tutoring is free and can take place either face-to-face at the Center for Languages or online via Microsoft Teams.

Schedule a Tutoring Appointment

You will be asked to log in with your SLCC account. After that, select the date and time, fill out the requested information and click on book. You will receive a confirmation email with more information along with a calendar invitation.

FAQ

Check the confirmation email you received upon booking. Under booking details, you will see the reschedule button.

If a tutoring session needs to be cancelled near the scheduled time due to an emergency or unseen situations, please call the Center for Languages at 801-957-3855 as soon as you can.

Simply click on the Join your appointment button within the confirmation email or the reminder email. Please choose a quiet place if you can. We also suggest you wear headphones if you have them.

If you have a bad experience with your appointment (tutor doesn't show up, doesn't seem prepared, etc.), please e-mail Lin Chen at lin.chen@slcc.edu, telling us when your appointment was, who it was with, and we will take care of it.

Professors receive three reports a semester and will update your grade on Canvas. But in case you are curious, you can send an e-mail the lab coordinator, lin.chen@slcc.edu.

What should I expect from my tutoring session?

Tutoring sessions are not classes. Tutors do not prepare lessons for you. They do help you practice conversation using specific grammar structures and vocabulary. When scheduling a tutoring session, you will be asked about which specific grammar and/or vocabulary you would like to practice.

  • If you are a student, you might want to go over your professor’s PowerPoints to help you decide what to practice. However, keep in mind that your tutor is not permitted to help you complete your homework assignments.
  • If you are not a language student, you are welcome to think about a topic and come practice conversation with our tutors.
  • If you would like to enroll in our language classes, see our offerings here.
