Digital Badges of Proficiency
In today’s global workforce, language skills are a gateway to meaningful connections, expanded career opportunities, and cultural fluency. Students who complete either the Novice Program (1010 & 1020) or the Intermediate Program (2010 & 2020) are eligible to request a Digital Badge of Language Proficiency through the Center for Languages.
What are digital badges?
Digital Badges are a modern way to showcase your achievements: they are secure, shareable credentials that highlight your proficiency in a world language. You can add them to your LinkedIn profile, digital portfolio, business card, email signature or résumé to demonstrate your commitment to intercultural competence and communication. They are embedded with metadata and a link that easily makes your achievements verifiable evidence. Along with the digital badge, you will receive a digital certificate version of your badge and metadata that can be printed.
How do I get one?
Step 1: Take the full novice series (1010 & 1020) and/or the full intermediate series (2010 & 2020) in any World Language.
You can request after taking 2010, and again after taking 2020.
If you are a Spanish student, you can request after taking 2040 or 2240
For all other languages, students can request after completing 2020.
Step 2: Fill out the Badge of Proficiency Request Form to begin the process.
Step 3: Once filled out, you will receive a link to schedule a Proficiency Test, which can be taken:
- At the Center for Languages—free of charge.
- Online—with a $20 co-pay for remote proctoring.
Step 4: Hold on tight! We will review your transcript (to check which language classes you've taken) and your proficiency test. Based on your performance, you’ll receive a Digital Badge indicating your proficiency level in the target language.
These credentials are a powerful way to demonstrate your language learning journey and signal your readiness for global engagement. If you have any questions, visit us at the Center for Languages or reach out—we’re here to support your success!
