Program Overview
The Medical Device Manufacturing: Processes and Practices Workforce Training microcredential certificate program includes a series of four courses addressing the competencies outlined by the medical device industry and covers the basic core knowledge and skills required for entry-level positions in a medical device, lab, or diagnostics business. Each course covers a different aspect of manufacturing and aligns with international industry-recognized standards. A Workforce Training microcredential certificate is awarded upon the successful completion of the four core courses. This training is appropriate for those new to the industry, transitioning from a related discipline, or professionals wanting refresher courses.
Two add-on courses that are not included in the four-course certificate are also available for trainees that want to increase their core knowledge after completion of the certificate program.
What you will learn
- Understand the medical device industry, key career paths, and how products move from conception to market approval.
- Apply GMP, GDP, LEAN/Six Sigma principles, and precise measurement techniques in a compliant manufacturing environment.
- Navigate FDA regulations, device classifications, pre-market pathways, and equivalent international standards.
- Evaluate quality management systems, document conformity, and propose Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) for non-compliance.
- Conduct quality audits, perform statistical analysis, and inspect medical devices using calibration and traceability standards.

Funding Sources
Utah residents who have lived in the state for at least 12 months may qualify for Short Term Intensive Training (STIT) funding, which covers up to 50% of tuition costs for this program.

- Funding is based on Utah residency of a minimum of 12 months.
- You must complete a STIT application to determine eligibility.
