Muslim Heritage Month

Reflect. Celebrate. Learn.

Every year in July, Muslim Heritage Month is recognized in the State of Utah. Designated in 2022 by Governor Cox, this is a time to reflect and learn together about Islamic excellence and the rich, longstanding contributions Muslim people have made to literature, math, science, art and history worldwide and in Utah.

At Salt Lake Community College, we will be reflecting, celebrating and learning about Islamic history and culture through:

  • Sharing resources and activities that explore Islamic excellence across all areas of life.
  • Encouraging engagement with Muslim community partners and virtual guest speakers.
  • Supporting schools in developing awareness and understanding of the contributions of Muslim Utahans through announcements, displays and activities.
  • Ensuring Muslim students, faculty and staff have safe, easy access to spaces for performing the Salat (praying) and reflecting during the school and workday.
  • Developing staff awareness of cultural practices, festivals and observances and how they can best be accommodated.
  • Providing opportunities and resources to support staff, faculty and students in resisting Islamophobia.
  • Understanding the holy month of Ramadan.
  • Discussing the importance of Hijab, and how to be supportive of those who wear Hijab.
