State Scholarships & Tuition Waivers
As a Utah System Higher Education (USHE) Institution, Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) can participate various award programs provided by the State of Utah to support Utah residents financially as they pursue their educational goals. Most state scholarship opportunities require you to fill out the FAFSA.
State Grant Programs Students Apply for Through Scholarship Universe
These grants and scholarships come from USHE and are given to SLCC to manage the funding, application process and awarding of funds to students. While USHE allows SLCC to use these funds, the college must follow all the rules, criteria, and instructions set by USHE. Students will apply through Scholarship Universe. Questions on application status can be submitted to scholarships@slcc.edu.
The application for this grant is now closed for 2025-2026 school year and students can no longer apply this year. The Adult Learner Grant Program provides financial assistance for adult learners (defined as 26 years of age or older) pursuing an online degree at Salt Lake Community College. This grant will cover tuition and fees for Utahns in the Online Business program. Students must complete the 2025-2026 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to qualify for the upcoming academic year.
The Talent Development Award Program is intended to recruit and train Utahns for high demand, high wage jobs. This grant can cover up to tuition and basic fees for students in an Engineering program at Salt Lake Community College. The Public Safety Officer Career Advancement Grant (PSOCAG) Program is a state-funded tuition grant program for certified peace officers currently employed by a Utah law enforcement agency and seeking a post-secondary degree in a criminal justice related program at Salt Lake Community College. State Grant Programs for Salt Lake Technical College (SLTC) Students
These are grants and scholarships are funded by the State of Utah and administered through Salt Lake Technical College. Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships is responsible for managing the application process and distributing awards to eligible students. Per SLCC’s agreement with the State of Utah, all funds must be used in accordance with the criteria and guidelines established by the state. The Technical Education Scholarship provides financial assistance to Utahns pursuing a technical education certificate in high demand industries. This scholarship is available to recent high school graduates and adults enrolled in a high demand program at Salt Lake Technical College. State Tuition Waiver Programs as Determined through Utah Legislature
SLCC also provides tuition waivers based on state legislation, including those for employees of peace officers, firefighters, and their dependents. These waivers are provided as part of SLCC’s commitment to serving the broader Utah community. These state tuition waivers are available to apply for at SLCC if you meet the listed requirements. If you meet the criteria below, email scholarships@slcc.edu to apply.
This one-year tuition waiver is available to regional Sterling Scholars category winners and runners-up. Recipients must enroll in a minimum of nine credit hours each semester. The exact tuition waiver amount is based on the number of enrolled credit hours (maximum 18). These tuition waivers are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis. They are non-renewable and limited. Recipients must provide a copy of their certificate, or the newspaper clipping of award to the Scholarship team at scholarships@slcc.edu.
Utah Residents who have received the Purple Heart qualify for this tuition waiver. Students must send a copy of either their DD-214 or Purple Heart Certificate to the Scholarship team at scholarships@slcc.edu.
This tuition waiver is for the surviving dependents of a Utah resident military member killed in the line of duty after 9/11/2001. Students will need to contact the Utah Department of Veterans and Military Affairs to receive proper documentation. This documentation should then be emailed to scholarships@slcc.edu.
This tuition waiver may be used by the children and surviving spouse of a Utah peace officer or Utah firefighter who has been killed in the line of duty. Bring supporting documentation to the Scholarship team at scholarships@slcc.edu.
