Types of Awards

Tuition Waivers

Tuition waivers are not cash-based awards. Instead, they reduce or eliminate your tuition obligation, like receiving a discount or coupon.

  • Award amounts vary based on enrollment status.
  • To continue receiving tuition waivers, you must be meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). To apply, visit ScholarshipUniverse.
  • Tuition waivers do not cover student fees, they are not refundable, and they cannot result in excess funds being issued as a refund.
    • Please note that since tuition waivers are designed to help reduce or eliminate your tuition costs, they are not stackable with some forms of external funding. So if you receive additional assistance that also applies to tuition—such as scholarships, sponsorships, third-party payments, and/or VA benefits—your waiver may be adjusted or removed to avoid over-awarding.
  • If you receive a tuition waiver and don’t have any remaining unmet need or have reached your Federal Cost of Attendance limit, your federal student loans and/or federal work-study may be reduced or removed.

For tuition reduction programs such as Senior Citizen Enrollment, WICHE WUE, or HB 144, please contact Admissions at residency@slcc.edu or 801-957-5044.

Scholarships

Like grants, SLCC scholarships typically do not have to be repaid. However, repayment may be required if you fail to meet minimum enrollment requirements or other scholarship conditions. Scholarships are often awarded based on strong essay submissions, extracurricular involvement, community service, academic excellence, or financial need. To apply, visit ScholarshipUniverse.

  • Please note that award amounts vary, but scholarships can generally be used to cover tuition and basic student fees only.
  • Scholarships are usually not refundable, and generally cannot result in excess funds being issued as a refund.

External scholarships from outside organizations will be awarded based on instructions from the donor. These may require repayment if the donor-specified requirements are not met, although this is done on a case-by-case basis. You can find the mailing address for external checks on our SLCC Scholarships and Tuition Waivers page.
